Srinagar, July 5: The Government College of Education (IASE), M.A. Road, Srinagar, organised its alumni meet, “Baazgasht,” bringing together former students, faculty members and distinguished guests to celebrate the institution’s rich academic legacy and strengthen its alumni network.
The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and the traditional Isband ceremony led by Principal Prof. (Dr.) Seema Naz, followed by a prayer presented by Arif Rashid and his group.
In her welcome address, Prof. Seema Naz underscored the significance of alumni engagement in fostering lasting institutional bonds. The objectives and vision of the alumni meet were outlined by Ms. Nahida Naseem, Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Alumni Committee, who highlighted the pivotal role alumni play in the institution’s growth and development.
The event featured a colourful cultural programme showcasing Kashmir’s artistic heritage. Performances included a patriotic song by Arif Rashid and G.M. Shafi, Laddishah by G.M. Mir, group and Pahari folk dances by IASE students, a stand-up comedy performance by Umar Hassan, the traditional Roff dance, and a duet by Arif Rashid and Rakshbahar.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Farhat Tasneem and Prof. Zahoor Geelani reflected on the institution’s academic excellence, its enduring legacy and the crucial role of alumni in shaping society and contributing to nation-building.
Delivering the concluding remarks, former Professor of Urdu, University of Kashmir, Prof. Zaman Azurda, appreciated the college’s initiative in reconnecting generations of alumni and preserving its academic traditions.
A major highlight of the programme was the felicitation of distinguished alumna Prof. Gurmeet Kour, who was honoured by Principal Prof. (Dr) Seema Naz, Prof. Zaman Azurda and Ms. Nahida Naseem in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the field of education.
The college also felicitated meritorious students and their mentors. The awards were presented by Mr. Fazl Illahi in recognition of their academic excellence and dedication.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Bilqees Aslam Shah, Assistant Professor and Member of the Alumni Committee. The event was compered by Mr. Arshid Sualeh, while the proceedings were documented by rapporteurs Prof. Mohd Ishaq Dar and Prof. Masarat Janbaz, both Assistant Professors and members of the Alumni Committee.
