Baramulla, August 13: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police in Baramulla have arrested a gang of 05 drug smugglers including a female drug smuggler and recovered contraband substance & cash from their possession.
A police party of Police Station Kunzer at a checkpoint established at Kunzer Baramulla, intercepted a vehicle (Maruti EECO) bearing registration number JK15A-7113 with five persons on board who on noticing the checkpoint tried to evade but the alert party apprehended them tactfully. They have been identified as Adil Ahmad Bhat son of Nazir Ahmad, Umer Mohiuddin Ahanger, both residents of Goom Ahmadpora, Hayat Ahmad Bhat son of Mohammad Ramzan resident of Kawoosa, Showkat Ahmad Sheikh son of Abdul Majeed & Nargis wife of Showkat Ahmad Sheikh, both residents of Umerabad Srinagar. During search, 530 grams of Charas alongwith cash amount of ₹21,000 (believed to be proceeds of narcotic crime) were recovered from their possession.
They have been arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized.
Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Kunzer and investigations has been initiated.
It is pertinent to mention here that, the gang was actively involved in selling & supplying contraband including Charas among the youth of Kunzer Baramulla, Magam Budgam & Shalteng Srinagar, surfaced during the investigation.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
Srinagar, August, 13: Glowing tributes were paid to Hazrat Imam Zain-ul-Abideen (AS) across Kashmir to mark the martyrdom anniversary of Hazrat Imam Zain-ul-Abideen (AS), who was martyred on the 25th of Muharram-ul-Harram in the Islamic calendar.
Several Majalis and processions were organised across Kashmir on Sunday as part of the martyrdom anniversary of Hazrat Imam Zain-ul-Abideen (AS). The functions were organized by Jammu and Kashmir Shia Association, Jammu and Kashmir Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen, Anjuman-e-Shar-e-Shian, and other religious organizations.
A day-long Majlis was organised by the J&K Shia Association at Chinabal in district Baramulla. Thousands of mourners thronged the Imambara Chinabal, where they recited the Holy Quran. It was followed by Marsiya by the prominent Zakirs of the Association.
On the occasion, President JKSA Molvi Imran Raza Ansari highlighted the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Zain-ul-Abideen (AS). Ansari also threw light on the life and teachings of Hazrat Imam Zain-ul-Abideen (AS) and his contribution to Islam. He also highlighted the importance of communal harmony and solidarity, emphasizing that the event transcended religious boundaries and stood as a testament to the diverse yet united fabric of the region.
In a powerful display of faith and unity, an estimated 50 thousand devotees congregated in Chinabal in Baramulla to commemorate the 25th Muharram procession, dedicated to Imam Zain-ul-Abideen (AS).
The Jaloos-e-Aza was taken out led by the President Jammu and Kashmir Shia Association, Molvi Imran Raza Ansari, and General Secretary, Al-Haj Abid Hussain Ansari. The procession with humility and reverence, offering prayers and speeches that resonated with the crowd.

Baramulla, August 10: Police in Baramulla have solved a burglary case by arresting an accused person involved in the commission of crime and recovered stolen property worth lakhs from his possession. On 02/07/2023, Police Station Baramulla received a written complaint from Zahoor Ahmad Bazi of Mohalla Syed Kareem Baramulla stating therein that during intervening night of 1st-2nd July 2023, some unknown burglars barged into his mobile shop and have stolen mobile phones. Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Baramulla and investigation was initiated. During the course of investigation, with the help of technical & human resources, investigating team zeroed in on one suspect identified as Showkat Ahmad Bhat son of Gh Hassan Bhat resident of Mir Sahib Old Town Baramulla. During questioning, officers learnt about his involvement in the commission of crime. On his disclosure, stolen mobile phones worth 1.5 lakh was recovered from his possession. Community members have lauded the efforts of police for cracking/solving the case. Our consistent actions shall assure community members that Police have resolved to act tough against individuals involved in any kind of criminal activities.
Ganderbal, August 09: Police in Ganderbal have solved a burglary case by arresting 3 accused persons involved in the commission of crime and recovered stolen property from their possession.
On 30-07-2023 Police Station Safapora received a written complaint from one Nisar Ahmad Mir son of Gh Ahmad Mir resident of Kumar Mohalla Safapora stating therein that during the intervening night of 29/30-07-2023 some unknown burglars have barged into his house & looted Cash worth lacs. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 29/2023 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Safapora and investigation was initiated.
On receipt of this information, SSP Ganderbal Shri Nikhil Borkar-IPS constituted a special Police team led by incharge SHO PS Safapora under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Ganderbal. After hectic efforts and with the help of technical resources, 03 suspects were brought for questioning. During questioning, they admitted their involvement in the commission of crime. They have been identified as Bilal Ahmad Guroo son of Abdul Rashid Guroo resident of Sheikhzoo Shilwat, Hilal Ahmad Reshi son of Mohd Ramzan Reshi resident of Pahlipora Safapora & one juvenile (name withheld).
On their disclosure, stolen money of Rs.5,85,000/= (Five Lakh Eighty-Five Thousand Rupees Only) & 01 Cell Phone have been recovered. The two accused were taken into the Police Custody & one accused juvenile lodged in Juvenile home DPL Ganderbal. Further investigation into the matter is going on. More arrests & recoveries are expected.
SRINAGAR, AUGUST 09: In connection with the weeklong celebrations of International Youth Day, Red Ribbon Club of the college in collaboration with the J&KAIDS Control Society today organized a ‘Walkathon’.
Principal of the college, Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir flagged-off the rally from Amar Singh College, campus in presence of Principal of City Colleges, Nodal Officers, RRC and other faculty of the college.
Apart from the students and faculty of the host college, Faculty and students from city colleges participated in the walkathon.
The rally comprising hundreds of students holding play cards in their hands about the HIV/AIDS awareness covered a distance of around 4 kms and went through the heart of the city Lal Chowk, culminating at Joggers ParkRajbagh.
The main motto of the walkathon was to bring awareness among the youth in particular and masses in general about the ill effects of deadly disease HIV/AIDS and the problems faced by youth.
Earlier on the inaugural day of International Youth Day on August 08, 2023, the RRC organized inter-college Poster making and Reel Making competitions about HIV/AIDS. A large number of students representing the city colleges participated in the respective competitions.
It is worth mentioning here that the series of events started from August 08, 2023 and shall culminate with the valedictory function on August 12, 2023.
SRINAGAR, AUGUST 06: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Jammu and Kashmir in collaboration with Legal Literacy Club, Amar Singh College, Srinagar, observed the “Day of Resolution for Freedom from Corruption” under the theme “Corruption Free Jammu & Kashmir” as a part of the Vigilance Awareness initiative of J&K Government, at Amar Singh College, Srinagar.
This commemorative event, marked by unwavering commitment and dedication, signifies a significant milestone in the UT’s journey towards a transparent and corruption-free society. This day serves as a clarion call for individuals, organizations, and communities to unite against corruption and embrace a path of honesty, transparency, and ethical conduct.
Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Nodal Officer Kashmir Division Colleges and Principal, Amar Singh College in his address said that the Government of J&K has been steadfast in its pursuit of creating a corruption-free governing system through various initiatives, policies, and reforms. He apprised the audience about the various steps taken by the college to combat any kind of ill doing and wrong practice in the functioning of the college.
Prof Ajaz Bashir maintained that corruption is a termite which is eating our vitals and we need to fight it collectively. He impressed upon students to visit his office anytime for any problem, discrimination or any case of Nepotism or favoritism in college.
Superintendent of Police, ACB, Srinagar, Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Wani highlighted various initiatives that Anti Corruption Bureau has taken to combat the menace of corruption and ensuring accountability in Jammu & Kashmir.
In his address, he highlighted various laws and provisions that empower the ACB to investigate and prosecute corrupt practices effectively. Emphasizing the importance of upholding the rule of law and maintaining the integrity of public institutions, he enjoined upon the students and the Faculty to extend their cooperation in eradicating corruption from the society.
Prof. Tafazul Hussain, Department of Political Science, also spoke on the occasion and stressed how corruption works in the society and the need to change the perception of the people.
Other senior officers and officials of Anti Corruption Bureau present on the occasion spoke at length about the empowerment that has come in the hands of citizens to fight the menace of corruption and ACB is a call, tweet or a whatsapp communication away from you for being a whistle blower against corruption.
The audience actively participated in the question-answer session and shared their experiences and vowed to adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards corruption and strive to become role models in promoting integrity and accountability within their respective spheres of influence.

Baramulla, August 03: Police in Baramulla have solved a burglary case by arresting 02 accused persons involved in the commission of crime besides, recovered stolen property from their possession. On 31/07/2023 Police Station Kunzer received a written complaint from Abdul Razak son of Late Gh Mohammad resident of Gonipora Kunzer stating therein that during intervening night of 30-31/07/2023, some unknown burglars barged into his residential house and stolen jewellery. Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Kunzer and investigation was initiated. During the course of investigation, officers with the help of technical and human resources, zeroed in on two persons identified as Bilal Ahmad Lone son of Gh Mohd Lone & Ashan Jeelani Wani son of Ghulam Jeelani Wani, both residents of Gonipora Kunzer. During questioning, both the accused persons confessed their involvement in the commission of crime and on their disclosure, stolen jewellery was recovered. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Community members have lauded the efforts of police for cracking/solving the case. SRINAGAR, JULY 27: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha remembered the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and the martyrs of Karbala.
In a statement, the Lt Governor said: “I bow to the martyrs of Karbala and recall sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his ideals. Today is a historic occasion for Shia brethren in Kashmir valley as after 34 years 8th Muharram procession is taking place on the traditional route, from Guru Bazar to Dalgate”.
The 8th Muharram procession used to come out from Guru Bazar and culminate at Imambargah Dalgate before it was banned in 1989.
“For 34 years, Muharram procession was banned on the traditional route. We respect the sentiments of Shia brethren and I assure the community that the administration will always stand by them. It is also the testimony to change and normalcy in J&K UT,” the Lt Governor said.
Today the entire world is witnessing commitment and determination of the government to ensure peaceful environment, freedom, love, compassion and harmony in society, he added.
“It is an occasion to reaffirm our commitment to peace and dedicate ourselves to the progress and prosperity of J&K UT. Several historic decisions have seen the light of the day in a few years and a peaceful J&K has emerged on the horizon. Let’s further strengthen our bonds and unity,” the Lt Governor said.
Baramulla, July 21: Police in Baramulla have busted gang of burglars/motorcycle lifters in Pattan by arresting 04 accused persons involved in the commission of crime and recovered stolen property from their possession.
On 14/07/2023 Police Station Pattan received a written application from John Mohammad War son of Ab Ahad War resident of Palpora Pattan stating therein that some unknown thieves have stolen his Motorcycle bearing registration No. JK05E-8826 on 07/07/2023 when he kept his Motorcycle parked in front of his shop situated at Jamia Mohalla Pattan and went to offer Friday prayers and on return, he found that his Motorcycle was missing and had been stolen by some unknown thieves. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 231/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Pattan and investigation was initiated.
During the preliminary course of investigation, some suspects were zeroed in on and during questioning, one suspected person identified as Mohd Abbas Daint son of Mohd Ayoub Daint resident of Kusambagh Hakbara Hajin Bandipora confessed that he has stolen a motorcycle. During further questioning, he disclosed that he has also stolen 03 other Motorcycles and was supplying the same to one person identified as Sajad Ahmad Pahloo son of Mohd Ramzan Pahloo resident of Madwan Hajin, who was assigned to change the parts of these stolen Motorcycles and after making modification in Motorcycles he was selling them. Subsequently he was also arrested in the instant case.
During further course of investigation, names of two other persons identified as Lateef Ahmad Fafoo son of Gh Ahmad Fafoo resident of Gund Prang Madwan Hajin and Sajad Ahmad Wagay son of Mohd Maqbool Wagay resident of Gund Prang Madwan Hajin surfaced, who were subsequently arrested in the instant case.
On their disclosure, all the stolen motorcycles were recovered from Gund Prang and Madwan Hajin Bandipora.
Further investigation in the case is going on and more arrests & recoveries are expected.
