Traffic awareness drive held

Srinagar: On a specific complaint by one child rights advocate and in a bid to promote road safety among children, today on 01 May, 2023, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Srinagar in collaboration with the Traffic police, Bemina launched a traffic awareness drive in Bemina near Iqbal Memorial Boys school, Srinagar.
The campaign aims to educate children about the importance of following traffic rules, discouraging rash, reckless and negligent driving among children. Besides, this initiative aims to counsel the negligent parents who in brazen violation of traffic regulations hand over the keys of their vehicle to the young children.
“With the increase in traffic and accidents involving children in the city, it has become imperative to create awareness about road safety among children who are often vulnerable and unaware of the risks involved. The traffic awareness drive will focus on educating children about traffic signs, traffic lights, and basic road safety rules” conveyed CWC.

While conducting this drive, eight (8) motor cycles including scooties and a car, were seized by the traffic police. Besides, on the spot directions has been passed by CWC Srinagar, for the personal appearance of the Principal, Iqbal Memorial Boys School, as well as against the negligent parents, who by their inaction had allowed children to ply the vehicles in violation of traffic regulations.
Through this drive, which is ongoing and will be conducted across the Srinagar, Children will be taught about the dangers of plying the vehicle on or near roads. The campaign also aims to sensitize children about the violations of rules and regulations entailed under MV Act and encourage them to become responsible road users. Similar, traffic awareness drives will be conducted in schools across the city, in collaboration with the concerned authorities.
Commenting on the launch of the traffic awareness drive, the Chairperson CWC, Srinagar said, “We believe that educating children about road safety is critical to reducing the number of accidents on our roads. By raising awareness among children, we hope to create a culture of responsible road usage and promote safety for all.” Chairperson further asserted that the paramount mandate of CWC is to ensure that rights and safety of the children and the same shall be in the best interest of the children.
The traffic awareness drive is part of a larger initiative by CWC to promote road safety and reduce the number of accidents on the city’s roads.

Police arrests 2 persons involved in kidnapping of 02 minor girls in Baramulla

Baramulla, May 01: Police have arrested two accused persons for their involvement in kidnapping of two minor girls in Baramulla.

Police Station Sheeri received a written complaint from Abdul Rehman Beigh son of Abdul Rahim Beigh stating therein that his two minor daughters were kidnapped by Mohd Aqib Dar and Rayees Ahmad Lone, both residents of Pehliharan. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 38/2023 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Sheeri and investigation was initiated.

During the investigation of the case, police acting promptly arrested both the involved accused persons and rescued the minor girls. Both the accused persons have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody. After completing all necessary legal formalities, the victims were handed over to their legal heirs.

Police has expressed its strong commitment to ensure that the accused face the full extent of the law for their heinous acts. They are conducting further investigations into the case to ensure that justice is served.

Police arrests 05 gamblers in Ganderbal, stake money seized

Ganderbal, April 30: Acting tough against social crimes, Police in Ganderbal have arrested 05 gamblers and seized stake money from their possession.

Acting on specific information about gambling activities at Bakoora, a police party of Police Post Nagbal headed by IC PP Nagbal under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Ganderbal raided the specific site and arrested 05 gamblers on the spot. They have been identified as Ab Rashid Bhat son of Gh Rasool Bhat resident of Pathan Mohalla Dargah, Bashir Ahmad Kambay son of Ab Gani Kambay resident of Astanpora Tailbal, Imtiyaz Ahmad War son of Mushtaq Ahmad War resident of Bakoora War Mohalla, Mohd Rafiq Baba son of Mohd Altaf Baba resident of Dargah Baba Mohalla and Feroz Ahmad Bhat son of Ab Rashid Bhat resident of Bakoora Bhat Mohalla.

Police have seized stake money of ₹23,390/- and playing cards from the gamblers. They have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 113/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Ganderbal and investigation has been taken up.

People found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per law. Community members are requested to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units.

Child Welfare Committee Srinagar visits Specialized Adoption Agency

Srinagar: Child Welfare Committee Srinagar visited Specialized Adoption Agency at Nowgam on April 27.

“A surprise inspection was conducted on April 27, 2023, at 3.30 PM by the Child Welfare Committee Srinagar, along with Ms. Aqsa Hussain, a renowned social worker, District Child Protection Unit, Srinagar. During the inspection the team visited Specialised Adoption Agency (SAA) and Shelter Home at Nowgam. Both SAA and Shelter Home are situated in one building, which is quite spacious for the purpose,” the handout said.

The staff was very cooperative. The overall condition of both the SAA and Shelter Home is very appreciable. The following recommendations were made by Dr Khair ul Nisa, Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee: “Firstly, five cases of neonates for adoption orders are pending before competent authority. It is therefore recommended to kindly speed up the matters in the best interest of children.

Secondly, Children who were already given to fit persons for temporary placement shall be given in adoption to the same parents after completing all legal formalities, keeping in view the future and security of the children. Thirdly, the maintenance granted to each neonate is Rs 2500/- per month as per the guidelines of Mission Vatsalya to cover all the expenses, which is not sufficient to fulfill the basic needs of neonates. It is therefore recommended to the concerned authority to kindly increase the said amount keeping in view the health, nutrition and hygiene of the children.”

Further, the following directions were also passed by Dr. Khair ul Nisa, Chairperson: “ Firstly, Dietician/ Nutritionist should prepare Diet Chart of each neonate. Secondly, Superintendent should prepare night duty roaster of staff and display the same in some conspicuous place of the building. Thirdly, Chief Medical Officer, Srinagar, to depute the paedetrician/specialist after every 15 days for medical check-ups of neonates.”, they added

Police arrests 3 gamblers in Baramulla, stake money seized

Baramulla, April 28: Acting tough against the social crimes, police have arrested three gamblers in Baramulla and seized stake money from their possession.

Acting on specific information regarding gambling activities at Bandi Balla forests, a police party of Police Station Chandoosa raided the specific spot and arrested the 3 gamblers who tried to flee from the spot. The have been identified as Maqsood Ahmad Beigh son of Saifullah Beigh resident of Sultanpora, Ab Hameed Ganie son of Ghulam Qadir resident of Rajpora and Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh son of Ghulam Hassan resident of Dudbugh Chandoosa. However, one of the gamblers identified as Ab Majeed Sheikh son of Ab Jabbar Sheikh resident of Dudbugh managed to flee from the spot and efforts are on to nab the accused.

Officers have seized stake money of ₹13,140/- and playing cards from their possession. They have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody.

Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Chandoosa and investigation has been initiated.

People found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per law. Community members are requested to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units.

Police busts gang of burglars in Sopore, 3 accused arrested

Sopore, April 28: Police in Sopore have busted a gang of burglars by arresting 3 accused persons and recovered stolen property worth lacs from their possession.

On 11-04-2023, Police Post Warpora received a written complaint from Wajhatul Islam son of Ab Hameed Hajam resident of Botingoo Sopore stating therein that during the intervening night of 10/11 April 2023, some unknown burglars entered in to his Sports shop situated at Kadlabal Botingoo and stolen Sports items worth lacs. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No.61/2023 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Sopore and investigation was initiated.

During the course of investigation, officers raided various places and several suspects were called for questioning. During questioning, three persons identified as Shoib Bhat son of Muhammad Sultan Bhat, Rameez Ahmad Rather son of Mohammad Ashraf Rather and Nayeem Ahmad Najar son of Gh Ahmad Najar, all the residents of Usmanabad Warpora Sopore confessed their involvement in the commission of crime.

On their disclosure, stolen property (sports items including cricket kits and bats) worth lacs were recovered from different locations besides, a load carrier bearing registration number PB10FV4078 used in the commission of crime has also been seized. Further investigation in the case is in progress.

Community members have lauded the efforts of police for cracking/solving the case. Our consistent actions shall assure community members that Police have resolved to act tough against individuals involved in any kind of criminal activities.

JK Haj Committee Issues Orientation cum Training schedule of pilgrims of Haj-2023

SRINAGAR, APRIL 27: Executive Officer, J&K Haj Committee today issued schedule for an Orientation cum Training Programme about Manasik-e-Haj and other logistics for selected pilgrims of J&K which will be conducted in their respective districts at specific venues at 10:00 AM.
According to the schedule, the pilgrims of tehsil Anantnag, Sallar, Kokernag & Larnoo the training will be imparted on April 29, 2023; for tehsil Shangus, Dooru, Qazigund & Shahabad Bala on May 01, 2023 and for tehsil Mattan, Pahalgam, Bijbehara & Srigufwara tehsils on May 02, 2023. The training programme for all these tehsils of Anantnag District will be given at the Govt. Degree College Women Auditorium, Anantnag.
Likewise, all the pilgrims of Bandipora will be imparted training on April 29, 2023 at Peer Masjid, Bandipora.
Similarly, in District Baramulla, the pilgrims of tehsil Baramulla, Uri, Boniyar, Wagoora, Dangiwacha, Rohama & Pattan shall receive training on April 29, 2023 at Masjid-i-Baitul Mukarramah, Baramulla while pilgrims of Sopore, Zanigeer, Dangerpora & Watragam tehsils will receive training May 01, 2023 at Jamia Masjid, Sopore and pilgrims of Khoi, Vagur, Kreeri, Singpora, Tangmarg, Kunzer & Karhama tehsils will get training on May 02, 2023 at Town Hall, Kunzer.
Besides, the date for training cum orientation programme for pilgrims of tehsil Budgam, Khansahib, Narabal, Magam, Khag, Beerwah shall be held on May 01, 2023 at Jamia Masjid Sharief, Ompora while pilgrims of tehsil Chadoora, Kanipora, charari sharief & BK Pora shall be imparted training on May 02, 2023 at Hanfiya Jamiya Masjid, Raheema, Chadoora.
All pilgrims of district Ganderbal shall receive training on May 01, 2023 at Markazia Hanfia Jamia Masjid, Behama , Ganderbal.
The training for pilgrims of tehsil Kulgam, Damhal, Devsar, Pahnoo is scheduled at Jamia Masjid, Kulgam on April 29, 2023 while for pilgrims of tehsil Koyimoh, Frisal & Yaripora on May 01, 2023.
In Kupwara, the training for pilgrims of tehsil Kupwara, Dragmulla, Trahgam, Kralpora, Keran, Machil, Sogam, Lalpora, Tangdar is scheduled on May 02, 2023 at Jamia Masjid, Murshideen Kupwara while for tehsil Handwara, Langate, Kralgund, Qaziabad,Bilgam, Zachaldara, Kalamabad on May 03, 2023 at Jamia Masjid Jadeed, Handwara.
In Pulwama district, the programme for tehsil Rajpora, Litter, Pulwama & Kakapora is fixed on May 03, 2023 at Hazrat Mir Saheb Jamia Masjid Sharief, Washbugh, SBI & Pulwama.
For tehsil Awantipora, Tral, Aripal & Pampore the training to pilgrims will be given on May 04, 2023 at Jamia Masjid Awantipora
All pilgrims of the district Shopian will receive training on May 02, 2023 at Jamia Masjid Sharief, Shopian.
The training cum orientation for pilgrims of district Srinagar from Cover No. series JKF-17-2-0 to JKF-1797-1-0 will be given on May 02, 2023; from Cover No. series JKF-1804-1-0 to JKF-3337-2-0 on May 03, 2023; from Cover No. series JKF-3348-4-0 to JKF-4892-1-0 on May 04, 2023; from Cover No. series JKF-4893-2-0 to JKF-6142-1-0 on May 06, 2023; from Cover No. series JKF-6143-2-0 to JKF-7035-2-0 on 07-05-2023. The traing to pilgrims of Srinagar will be given at Haj House, Bemina, Srinagar.
The schedule for training for all the pilgrims of the district Jammu is April 29, 2023 at Jamia Masjid, Al Hijri & Ustaad Mohalla, Jammu.
Similarly, all pilgrims of the district Reasi will be given training on May 01, 2023 at Conference Hall, D.C Office, Reasi. While all pilgrims of the district Samba will get training on May 02, 2023 at Jamia Masjid, Sarore, Samba.
In Kathua, all pilgrims of the district to receive training on May 03, 2023 at conference Hall of D.C office, Kathua.
All pilgrims of Ramban districts shall get training on May 01, 2023 at Jamia Masjid Qadiem, Ramban and Markazi Jamia Masjid, Banihal.
In Doda training will be given on May 02, 2023 at Astan Masjid Shraief, Doda. In Kishtwar training will be provided on May 03, 2023 at Islamia Faridia Education & Research Institute, Kishwar.
For Udhampur all pilgrims will get training on May 04, 2023 at Eid Gah Adresh Colony. Udhampur. Similarly, pilgrims of Poonch training is scheduled on May 02, 2023 at Multi-purpose Hall, Krishan Chander, Govt. Degree College, Poonch. All pilgrims of the district Rajouri will get training on May 01, 2023 at PWD Dak Banglow.
All the selected pilgrims have been asked to report on their respective venues on scheduled dates at 10:00 AM, so the training programmes will be conducted smoothly.

SP College organized Tug of War event for students

SRINAGAR, APRIL 27: The Physical Education Department of Sri Pratap College today organized “Tug of war” between students of various groups to kick-start the sports calendar of the academic session 2023-24.

Various groups of boys and girls participated in the event.

The event was flagged off by Principal SP College, Prof (Dr.) Gh Jeelani Qurashi.

In his introductory address, he urged upon the students to actively participate in the sports activities that will be held from time to time during the academic session.

Stressing upon the physical agility, he talked about the importance of physical fitness and significance of games in the daily lives.

The event was also attended by Prof Manzoor Ahmad Wani, Dr. Khurshid Ahmad Parray, Dr. Ruheena Tabassum, Dr. Nadia Shah, Prof. Zafar Majeed and Mr. Owais Wani.

Prof Manzoor Ahmad Wani, Head Department of Botany addressed the participants and ensured them that sports activities shall be a regular feature of the college.

Tulip garden at Sanasar witnesses huge footfall

RAMBAN, APRIL 27: The Tulip Garden at Sanasar – the J&K’s second biggest and Jammu division’s biggest Tulip garden, is witnessing huge footfall of the tourists from different places of the country.
The Garden is spread over 40 kanals (5 acres) of land adjacent to the Lake surrounded by picturesque Sanasar meadows. Around 2.75 lakh tulip bulbs of 25 varieties and different hues have been planted in the garden.
It was inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor, J&K UT, Shri Manoj Sinha on April 8 during a grand function held amid much fanfare.
The tourists from all over the country and even outside the country are visiting Tulip Garden in Sanasar in hordes thereby boosting the socio-economic status of the area.
Till date, 43964 tourists including 18026 from J&K and 25936 local tourists besides a few foreigners have visited Sanasar this year, so far.
At present 40 percent Tulip flowers are in bloom which will remain bloomed for 10 more days.
