SRINAGAR, MAY 14: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha conducted on-site inspection and reviewed ongoing construction work of the transit accommodation for PM Package employees at Zewan, today.
The Lt Governor appraised the progress of works being carried out at the site, and directed the officials for timely completion of the project.
The housing colony at Zewan will have 39 blocks comprising 936 residential units.
Earlier in the month of April this year, the Lt Governor had inaugurated newly constructed 576 residential accommodations for PM Package Employees at Baramulla, Bandipora, Ganderbal & Shopian.
Sh Shailendra Kumar, Principal Secretary, Public Works (R&B); Sh Vijay Kumar, ADGP Kashmir; Sh Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and other senior officials were present.
SRINAGAR, MAY 14: The Golden Age event was organised by J&K Sports Council (JKSC) early this morning in Downtown Srinagar. The event was aimed at promoting sports among the elderly and encouraging them to stay active and healthy.
Various sports activities and competitions were organized, including athletics and Tug of war and all the participants showed great enthusiasm and enjoyed the activities.
The focus of the event was to emphasise on the importance of being fit, drug-free, and besides creating environment consciousness. The Golden Age sports programs conducted by JKSC across the Union Territory is receiving a positive response from elders.
While J&K Sports Council is actively promoting G-20 awareness and the Fit India program for all ages through a door-to-door campaign, Sports Council has started the special campaign involving elders during morning walks.
Sarmad Hafeez Secretary Youth Services and Sports presided over the function as the chief guest while Nuzhat Gull Secretary Sports Council was guest of honour on the occasion.
While speaking on the occasion, Sarmad Hafeez said that the Sports Council is committed to help young kids achieve their goals in sports and become successful global citizens and while doing so it is also focusing on the importance of parental support and community engagement and thus highlighting and promoting sports among elders who shall help in youth to abstain from drug abuse.
He said campaigns to mobilize elders, parents, and religious leaders against drug abuse have received an overwhelming response and will continue to be carried out in the future.
Samad Hafeez praised the efforts of the Sports Council in organizing such events and emphasized the importance of staying active for a healthy lifestyle.
Samad Hafeez commended the residents of Downtown for their efforts in combating the drug problem among the youth. He recognized their role in socially engaging the youth in activities that promote good health and well-being.
He noted that their contributions have made a significant impact in raising awareness about the dangers of drugs and encouraging the youth to make positive choices.
Nuzhat Gull congratulated the participants for turning out in large numbers and encouraged them to continue their involvement in sports. Gull praised the community’s spirit of collaboration and urged them to continue their efforts in making Downtown a safe and healthy place for everyone.
Nuzhat Farooq, the Divisional Sports Officer who was also present on the occasion along with other officials of Sports Council, highlighted the various initiatives undertaken by the Sports Council to promote sports among all age groups and encouraged the elderly to remain active.
She also said that more such events would be organized in the future.
Syed Shafqat the venue incharge for the event said that the Golden Age event was a great success and received positive feedback from all the attendees.
It was a great example of how sports can bring people of all ages together and promote a healthy and active lifestyle.
Elsewhere in J&K many sports events were held under various verticals and the frequency of the events is expected to increase with improvement in weather conditions.
RINAGAR, MAY 13: The Mentor-Mentee Committee of Sri Pratap College organised a one day workshop on the theme “Nurturing Beautiful Minds”: An initiative for Adolescent Mental Wellbeing,. The workshop aimed at promoting a strong mental and physical development of the student community by providing a supportive environment that encourages holistic individual growth.
The Principal SP College, Prof (Dr) Ghulam Jeelani Qureshi in his keynote address emphasized on the importance of healthy mind-healthy body balance and the need of youth to be focussed as nation builders. Dr Syed Misbah Zahoor, Convenor of the committee in her address highlighted the importance of personality development for individuals to identify their strengths and weaknesses.
Expert on the occasion, Dr Muzaffar Ahmad Khan, Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Director Youth Development Centre, in a very articulate manner talked about the imperativeness of a positive state of mind and taking care of one’s emotional, psychological and social well being. In the technical session, Dr Suhail Ahmad Bhat, gave psychometric tests to the students to evaluate the academic as well as other types of stress levels among them.
The session was quite enriching for the participants and pertinent questions were raised related to mental health issues. The proceedings of the event were managed by Dr. Javaid Hassan, Dept of Zoology and vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Khursheed Ahmad Parray, Dept of Geology.
SRINAGAR, MAY 13: The Dean Students Welfare and Debates and Seminar Committee of Sri Pratap College today jointly organized an intra-college seminar on the theme, “One Earth, One Family, One Future: G-20 Summit Vis-a-Vis Kashmir”.
Speaking at the event, the Principal SP College, Prof (Dr) Gh. Jeelani Qurashi stressed upon increasing and adopting sustainable life skills so that skill and knowledge sharing reach all.
The Jury for the event consisted of Prof Manzoor Ahmad Wani, (Head, Department of Botany), Dr. Nikhat Nabi (Head, Department of Zoology) and Dr. Jan Shabir (Head, Department of Physics).
Dean Student Welfare (Girls) Dr. Khalida Hassan and Dr Misbah Andrabi (Convener Debate and Seminar Committee) were also present at the occasion
Prof Manzoor Ahmed Wani spoke about sustainable climate goals and urged upon students to take care of their surroundings. The Programme was moderated by Assistant Dean, Dr. Shazia Mushtaq, Department of Botany.
The participants touched upon diverse aspects of the G-20 summit. Farman Nisar, Tafazul Samoon and Danish Nabi Kumar secured first, second and third positions, respectively. The event concluded with vote of thanks by Prof. Javeria Khurshid.
SRINAGAR, MAY 12: To celebrate the International year of Millets and get benefitted out of it, a fifteen-day training programme on development of millet-based products organised by Jammu Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM) concluded successfully here at Institute of Hotel management (IHM) Rajbagh today. The training programme was organised by JKRLM in association with Grassroots Innovation Augmentation Network (GIAN). A total of 12 SHG members have undergone for the said training programme. The training was imparted to the participant by renowned Chef Yaseen and his team of expert Master Chefs of Institute of Hotel Management Rajbhagh. While interacting with the SHG members Commissioner Secretary, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Mandeep Kaur highlighted the importance of Millet as staple diet and said JKRLM is not only promoting cultivation of Millets but also skilling the SHG members on preparation of different recipes amongst the SHG members. Slowly but steadily, people will re-adopt the Millet in their diets. She said that in addition to promote healthy eating, the training programme aimed to raise awareness about the environmental benefits of millets. Millets require much less water and fertilizer than other grains, making them a more sustainable option for farmers and the environment. Speaking on the occasion Mission Director Jammu Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission, Indu Kanwal Chib said that as the year 2023, is being celebrated as International year of Millets as staple diet, we at JKRLM wish to involve more and more women into our farm livelihood vertical as Krishi Sakhies and Mahila Kissans. During the training programme the members were imparted training on innovative recipes in Millet based products apart from learning about the nutritional benefits of Millets, she added. She thanked Principal IHM, Shabir Ahmad for facilitating such a training programme & making this training programme a success. It is to mention here that Millets are small-grained, nutrient-rich cereals that have been a staple food for millions of people around the world for centuries. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in millets as a sustainable and healthy alternative to rice and wheat, and many innovative millet-based products have been developed.
SRINAGAR, MAY 12: The Deputy Commissioner(DC) Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad today undertook a visit to Narayan Temple in Tulsi Bagh area of the District to assess the spot position of the Temple for its Restoration, Revival, Preservation and Maintenance of Architecture and Heritage.
During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by Chief Planning Officer, Deputy Director, Culture Department, Executive Engineer R&B, Tehsildars South and other Officers of concerned Departments.
On the occasion, the DC along with Officers took onsite inspection of the required upgradation, renovation, and repair works and asked the concerned Officers to prepare a DPR regarding the same by May 14, 2023 so that works related to Restoration, Revival, Preservation and Maintenance of Architecture and Heritage of the Temple are taken up at the earliest.
The DC also asked them to incorporate the works related to the upgradation and augmentation of drainage system of the temple in the ongoing drainage network project to overcome the waterlogging issue at the premises of the religious place.
The DC also asked for submitting a proposal for landscaping at the premises besides face-lifting of the main entrance and pathway to the Temple.
The DC also asked to prepare a DPR for Khatamband Ceiling inside the Temple with visible impact while maintaining Architecture and Heritage of the Kashmir Valley. He further asked them to incorporate all necessary repairs and face lifting works in the project to give an aesthetic look to the temple.
During the visit, the members of the Managing Body of the Temple apprised the DC about the renovation measures required to be taken up.
SRINAGAR, MAY 10: Under the aegis of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ a Mega Yoga event was today organised by Zonal Physical Education Officer Zone Batamaloo at GHSS Amirakadal. 150 Students participated with great enthusiasm and determination. District Youth Services and Sports Officer Srinagar also graced the occasion with his presence. Addressing the participants, experts said that Yoga is a way of life and stressed on the need to practice it for a healthy mind and body. On the occasion, Zonal Physical Education Officer appreciated the physical education staff for putting their efforts to make the Mega Yoga event a success.
SRINAGAR, MAY 10: Higher Education Department and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) organized two day training cum awareness and counselling workshop for the Principals of Degree Colleges, nodal officers and other stakeholders under the Special Scholarship Scheme for J&K and Ladakh (PM-USPY) for the academic session 2023-24 at Sri Pratap College.
The inaugural event was chaired by Director Colleges, Higher Education Department, Professor Yasmeen Ashai.
Nodal Principal Kashmir Division Colleges, Professor Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Principal SP College Srinagar, Professor Ghulam Jeelani Qureshi, Principal Islamia College of Science and Commerce, Professor Khurshid Ahmad Khan, Kunal Jeet Singh, Director PMSSS, AICTE, New Delhi, Rakesh Kumar Ganju, Assistant Director PMSSS AICTE, New Delhi, Professor Ajeet Angral, Consultant PMSSS AICTE New Delhi, Principals of Kashmir Division Colleges, Higher Secondary Schools and Nodal Officers of Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) participated in the workshop.
The first issue of monthly students bulletin of SP College “The Pratap Bulletin” was also released during the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Yasmeen Ashai exhorted upon all the Principals to upload and notify the deliberations of the workshop on their respective college websites so that the benefits of the PMSSS reach the maximum students. She lauded the efforts of AICTE and the associated nodal officers for smooth conduct of the whole process of award of PMSSS on a yearly basis.
Professor Sheikh Ajaz Bashir also spoke on the occasion and deliberated upon the benefits of PMSSS and stressed upon the participant Principals to put forward dedicated faculty as incharge PMSSS in their respective colleges.
Professor Ghulam Jeelani Qureshi, while addressing the stakeholders, stressed upon the need to attract more and more students towards the scholarship scheme for which all the stakeholders need to put serious efforts.
Professor Ajeet Angral conducted the workshop and talked at length about the beneficiaries of PMSSS in various fields over the last few years. He impressed upon the nodal officers that they must take every necessary care so that the benefits of the policy reach the meritorious and deserving students.
Kunal Jeet Singh, Director PMSSS and Rakesh Kumar Ganju Assistant Director PMSSS AICTE also delivered detailed presentations on both the days on the whole process of registration and the subsequent award of the PMSSS. They also dwelled on the possible issues and errors that a candidate might face during the registration and the resolutions thereof.
The event concluded with a rigorous question answer session in which participants expressed their doubts with respect to the scheme and also suggested ways to make things better for the potential beneficiaries.
Kulgam, May 10: Police in Kulgam have solved theft cases by arresting 4 accused persons involved in the commission of crime and recovered stolen property from their possession. On 02/05/2023, Police Station Kulgam received a written complaint from Altaf Hussain Mir son of Ali Mohd Mir resident of Qadirpora, Bungam Kulgam stating therein that his vehicle Maruti-800 was stolen by some unknown thieves during the night hours from Astan Gali Kulgam. Similarly, on 06/05/2023 another written complaint was received by Police Station Kulgam from Suhail Ahmad Wagay son of Gulzar Ahmad Wagay resident of Goripora Mohalla, Kulgam stating therein that during the intervening night of 21/22 April 2023 unknown thieves have stolen Batteries of his vehicle and other vehicles near Jamia Masjid Kulgam. Accordingly, cases vide FIR numbers 87/2023 and 91/2023 under relevant sections of law were registered in Police Station Kulgam and investigation was taken up. Taking cognisance of the matter, Police intensified its patrolling and surveillance activities to put stop on these burglaries and accordingly, a team headed by SHO Kulgam under the supervision DySP Hqrs Kulgam was constituted. Subsequently, some suspects were zeroed in on in these cases and 4 among them confessed their involvement in the commission of crime. They have been identified as Mujeeb-ur-Rehman @Faheem Sofi son of Abdul Rahman Sofi resident of Astan Mohalla Kulgam, Danish Ahmad Ahanger son of Ghulam Nabi Ahanger resident of Reshipora Kulgam, Bilal Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Mohd Dar resident of Redwani Kulgam and Aashiq Hussain Lone son of Abdul Rashid Lone resident of Naibasti Qaimoh. On their disclosure, stolen property including Maruti-800 and 04 batteries were recovered from their possession. Further investigation in the case is in progress and more recoveries & arrests are expected. Community members have lauded the efforts of police for cracking/solving the cases. Our consistent actions shall assure community members that Police have resolved to act tough against individuals involved in any kind of criminal activities.
