SP College organises workshop on ‘Nurturing Beautiful Minds’

RINAGAR, MAY 13: The Mentor-Mentee Committee of Sri Pratap College organised a one day workshop on the theme “Nurturing Beautiful Minds”: An initiative for Adolescent Mental Wellbeing,. The workshop aimed at promoting a strong mental and physical development of the student community by providing a supportive environment that encourages holistic individual growth.

The Principal SP College, Prof (Dr) Ghulam Jeelani Qureshi in his keynote address emphasized on the importance of healthy mind-healthy body balance and the need of youth to be focussed as nation builders. Dr Syed Misbah Zahoor, Convenor of the committee in her address highlighted the importance of personality development for individuals to identify their strengths and weaknesses.

Expert on the occasion, Dr Muzaffar Ahmad Khan, Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Director Youth Development Centre, in a very articulate manner talked about the imperativeness of a positive state of mind and taking care of one’s emotional, psychological and social well being. In the technical session, Dr Suhail Ahmad Bhat, gave psychometric tests to the students to evaluate the academic as well as other types of stress levels among them.

The session was quite enriching for the participants and pertinent questions were raised related to mental health issues. The proceedings of the event were managed by Dr. Javaid Hassan, Dept of Zoology and vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Khursheed Ahmad Parray, Dept of Geology.

Intra-college seminar on, ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future: G-20 Summit vis-a-vis Kashmir’ held at SP College

SRINAGAR, MAY 13: The Dean Students Welfare and Debates and Seminar Committee of Sri Pratap College today jointly organized an intra-college seminar on the theme, “One Earth, One Family, One Future: G-20 Summit Vis-a-Vis Kashmir”.

Speaking at the event, the Principal SP College, Prof (Dr) Gh. Jeelani Qurashi stressed upon increasing and adopting sustainable life skills so that skill and knowledge sharing reach all.

The Jury for the event consisted of Prof Manzoor Ahmad Wani, (Head, Department of Botany), Dr. Nikhat Nabi (Head, Department of Zoology) and Dr. Jan Shabir (Head, Department of Physics).

Dean Student Welfare (Girls) Dr. Khalida Hassan and Dr Misbah Andrabi (Convener Debate and Seminar Committee) were also present at the occasion

Prof Manzoor Ahmed Wani spoke about sustainable climate goals and urged upon students to take care of their surroundings. The Programme was moderated by Assistant Dean, Dr. Shazia Mushtaq, Department of Botany.

The participants touched upon diverse aspects of the G-20 summit. Farman Nisar, Tafazul Samoon and Danish Nabi Kumar secured first, second and third positions, respectively. The event concluded with vote of thanks by Prof. Javeria Khurshid.

HED, AICTE organize 2 day training, awareness workshop under Special Scholarship Scheme for J&K, Ladakh

SRINAGAR, MAY 10: Higher Education Department and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) organized two day training cum awareness and counselling workshop for the Principals of Degree Colleges, nodal officers and other stakeholders under the Special Scholarship Scheme for J&K and Ladakh (PM-USPY) for the academic session 2023-24 at Sri Pratap College.

The inaugural event was chaired by Director Colleges, Higher Education Department, Professor Yasmeen Ashai.

Nodal Principal Kashmir Division Colleges, Professor Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Principal SP College Srinagar, Professor Ghulam Jeelani Qureshi, Principal Islamia College of Science and Commerce, Professor Khurshid Ahmad Khan, Kunal Jeet Singh, Director PMSSS, AICTE, New Delhi, Rakesh Kumar Ganju, Assistant Director PMSSS AICTE, New Delhi, Professor Ajeet Angral, Consultant PMSSS AICTE New Delhi, Principals of Kashmir Division Colleges, Higher Secondary Schools and Nodal Officers of Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) participated in the workshop.

The first issue of monthly students bulletin of SP College “The Pratap Bulletin” was also released during the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Yasmeen Ashai exhorted upon all the Principals to upload and notify the deliberations of the workshop on their respective college websites so that the benefits of the PMSSS reach the maximum students. She lauded the efforts of AICTE and the associated nodal officers for smooth conduct of the whole process of award of PMSSS on a yearly basis.

Professor Sheikh Ajaz Bashir also spoke on the occasion and deliberated upon the benefits of PMSSS and stressed upon the participant Principals to put forward dedicated faculty as incharge PMSSS in their respective colleges.

Professor Ghulam Jeelani Qureshi, while addressing the stakeholders, stressed upon the need to attract more and more students towards the scholarship scheme for which all the stakeholders need to put serious efforts.

Professor Ajeet Angral conducted the workshop and talked at length about the beneficiaries of PMSSS in various fields over the last few years. He impressed upon the nodal officers that they must take every necessary care so that the benefits of the policy reach the meritorious and deserving students.

Kunal Jeet Singh, Director PMSSS and Rakesh Kumar Ganju Assistant Director PMSSS AICTE also delivered detailed presentations on both the days on the whole process of registration and the subsequent award of the PMSSS. They also dwelled on the possible issues and errors that a candidate might face during the registration and the resolutions thereof.

The event concluded with a rigorous question answer session in which participants expressed their doubts with respect to the scheme and also suggested ways to make things better for the potential beneficiaries.

SP College releases its first monthly students bulletin ‘The Pratap Bulletin’

SRINAGAR, MAY 09: S.P College today released its first monthly students bulletin, “The Pratap Bulletin” at the college auditorium, here.

The Bulletin was released by Nodal Principal Kashmir Division Colleges, Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir in presence of Principal SP College, Prof Ghulam Jeelani Qureshi, Principal Islamia College, Professor Khurshid Ahmad Khan, Deans Students Welfare, Dr. Khalida Hassan, Dr. Jan Shabir and Chief Editor of the Bulletin, Dr. Nadia Shah.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Sheikh Ajaz Bashir lauded the efforts of the college and termed the bulletin as a very healthy practice which must be adopted by all the colleges of the UT.

Prof Ghulam Jeelani Qureshi stated that the bulletin shall be exclusively devoted to achievements of students which shall encourage them to strive more and go beyond the academics and participate in extra-curricular activities rigorously.

The event was also attended by Principals of Kashmir Division colleges.

VC CUK reviews construction works at SP College

SRINAGAR, MAY 06: The Vice Chancellor (VC) Cluster University Srinagar Prof. Qayyum Hussain today visited SP College Campus Srinagar to have an update on the ongoing development projects in the college.

The VC was briefed about various projects by the Principal SP College, Srinagar Prof. (Dr) Gh Jeelani Qurashi which includes construction of Multi-Purpose Indoor Hall for Women, Constriction of proposed Warden Hostel / Guest House, construction of prefab Multipurpose Store and upgradation and renovation of Safi-ud-Din Memorial Conference Hall.

The Convernor College Development Committee Prof. Shahid A. Wani updated the visiting team about the progress of ongoing works executed by various construction agencies in the campus.

The VC stressed for the timely completion of the development projects so that the facilities can be utilized by the students in near future.

The VC was accompanied by the Dean School of Sciences Prof. (Dr.) Naseer Ahmad Shah.

SP College remember academician late Prof G. M. Bhat

SRINAGAR, MAY 5: The Dean Students Welfare of Sri Pratap College, Srinagar organized a lecture in honour of late Prof G. M. Bhat who was a great innovator, academician and a role model to the student community and teaching fraternity.
The programme was attended by the Principal Sri Pratap College, Srinagar Prof. (Dr) Gh. Jeelani Quershi, Guest of honour Dr Tasleema Jan W/o Late Prof G.M Bhat, Prof Rabia Ahmad Head Department of English, Dr Muqabil Burhan Associate Professor IIM Jammu, Dr Shahid Jibaran Program officer IIM Jammu , Dr Azra Mufti (State Resource coordinator MGNF), Ms Farah Farooq (State Resource Co-ordinator, Ladakh), Dean Student Welfare (Girls), Dr Khalida Hassan & Dr Shazia Mushtaq , Dean Student Welfare (Boys), Dr Jan Shabir & Dr Mohmmad Raies ul Haq.
The programme was further moderated by Dr Shazia Mushtaq and the Rapporteur of the programme was Dr Syed Javid Ahmad Andrabi.
The programme started with an address by the Principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Gh. Jeelani Quershi. The Principal highlighted the role of Entrepreneurship and Skill Development.
He briefed the students about the importance of business management in Science and Technology and how economic aspects can be important in day to day life. The Principal addressed the contribution of Late Prof G. M Bhat by highlighting the monumental contribution in Technology and Science.
Guest of Honour, Dr. Tasleema Jan W/o Late Prof. G.M Bhat addressed the audience about the contribution of Prof Bhat and thanked the administration of the college to organize lecture in honor of him.
The programme highlight was the audio/ video lecture by Dr. Muqbil Burhan, an Associate Professor in the area of Business Policy, Strategy and Entrepreneurship and Chairperson of IIM Jammu’s Srinagar Campus and also Chairperson of Center for Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Skill Development at IIMJ (Srinagar campus).
In his lecture, he highlighted the strategies, business policies and apprised the audience about how important it is to understand and inculcate the Entrepreneurship knowledge in their curriculum and also in day to day life.
Dr. Shahid Jibran Program Manager at IIM Jammu & currently looking after Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship Program highlighted the various aspects related to Innovation & Skill Development. The focus of his presentation was to make students understand how to start, organize and run a business.
Dr Azra Mufti State Resource coordinator MGNF, Ms Farah Farooq State coordinator ladakh, had an activity/ interaction session with the students about Innovation & Skill Development.
Over 200 students and college faculty members, Head of the Departments participated in the programme.
The program was concluded by Vote of thanks presented by Dr Shazia Mushtaq Assistant Dean of the college.

5 teachers of Police Pubic School Bemina Srinagar facilitated with best teacher awards

Srinagar, May 03: CT University of Punjab in collaboration with Kashmir University organised one day workshop in the convocation complex of University of Kashmir on the theme “Unlocking Opportunities for the Youth”, today. On the occasion, five teachers of PPS Bemina Srinagar were facilitated with best teacher awards besides, the principal of the institution was awarded with a memento of honour for being among 15 influential principals of the valley.
On this occasion, Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University Prof. Nelofer Khan and Chancellor of CT University of Punjab Charanjit Singh Channi were chief guests. In the workshop the main focus was NEP 2020 keeping in view the skill based opportunities for the youth. During the workshop the professors of both the universities along with chief guests throw light on the holistic development of the young generation. The joint director of CT university Dr. Maninder Pal Singh encouraged the students for the skill based education.
In the event, Police Public School Bemina Srinagar participated with great enthusiasm. Five teachers including Mr Sheikh Rouf, Mr. Mir Zahoor, Mr. Yasir Yousuf, Ms. Zeeza Mushtaq and Ms. Shabnum Malik were felicitated with best teacher awards. Moreover, the best performed students of the institution got certificates in the workshop. Principal of PPS Bemina was also awarded with a memento of honour for being among 15 influential principals of valley.

Additional Director, JKST&IC visits SP College; Inspects Hydrobiology Research Lab

SRINAGAR, APRIL 26: To oversee the progress of various ongoing projects funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Additional Director JKST&IC, Dr. Nasir Ahmad Shah, today visited SP College where he inspected various departments including Hydrobiology Research Lab.

Principal Prof. (Dr.) Gh Jeelani Qurashi along with senior faculty members including Prof. Bashir Ahmad Mir Head Department of Chemistry, Prof. Manzoor Ahmad Wani Head Department of Botany, Dr. Khurshid Ahmad Parray, Dr. Shabana Aslam Convenor Innovation Cell and others accompanied him.

He was apprised about the progress of research and innovation initiatives taken up by the institution.

Dr. Nasir Ahmad Shah interacted with the scholars and assured them of all possible cooperation. He expressed his satisfaction over the ongoing research activities within the institution.

He also assured coordination for establishment of state of art hi-tech green house in the college Botanical Garden as a centralized facility for preservation and conservation of exotic plants and other horticultural research activities.

Dr Jitendra Singh MoS, GoI felicitates IUST

New Delhi: In the Vishwavidyala Anusandhan Utsav 2023, organized by the Department of Science and Technology, GoI, Union MoS (Independent Charge) Science & Technology; MoS (Independent Charge) Earth Sciences; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh, felicitated IUST among other recipient Institutions of the PURSE Grant. Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo Vice Chancellor, IUST led the IUST’s delegation that comprised Dean Health Sciences, Prof Ayub Qadri, Dr. Muzaffar Rasool, Dr. Basharat Nabi, Dr. Arsheed Ganaie and Dr. Manzoor Ahmad.
IUST has bagged the project worth 10 cr. under “Promotion of University Research and Scientific Excellence (PURSE)” which is a flagship scheme for promotion and strengthening of the research ecosystem of the Universities, pan India.
Pertinently, IUST guided by its strategic plan (2021-2026) has seen a manifold increase in the research outcomes in the form of patents, publications, collaborations with different institutions, promotion of research in frontier areas etc. In fact, in the last two years, the extra mural funding to the IUST has increased drastically to the tune of 42.38 cr. giving further impetus to the research and development activities. Further, under the NEP 2020, IUST has approved Kalam Academy of Training & Skills and has instituted various in- demand skilling courses and aims to skill over 3000 youth under the PMKVY 4.0 in promising areas.
