Satish Sharma attends inaugurals of 42nd Junior National Tennikoit Championship

JAMMU, NOVEMBER 26: Minister for FCS&CA, Transport, Youth Services and Sports, IT, ARI and Trainings, Satish Sharma, today attended inaugurals of the 42nd Junior (Boys & Girls) National Tennikoit Championship which commenced today at Green Field, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
The five-day national championship, organized under the aegis of the Tennikoit Federation of India and the J&K Tennikoit Association, in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council and the Department of Youth Services & Sports, has brought together nearly 550 players and officials from 23 States and Union Territories.
Satish Sharma interacted with the players and officials and applauded the high level of enthusiasm and participation. He said : “It is encouraging to see young athletes from across the nation gather in Jammu with such passion and sportsmanship. National championships like this reinforce unity, promote healthy competition, and contribute to the overall development of youth. The government remains committed to providing every support to nurture sports talent in Jammu & Kashmir.”
Senior representatives of the Tennikoit Federation of India, the J&K Tennikoit Association and the J&K Sports Council were also present and expressed satisfaction with the arrangements and the spirited environment at the venue.

JAMMU, NOVEMBER 25: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha on Tuesday called upon the Youth to step up against organisations and individuals involved in Radicalisation in the Kashmir valley.

He was speaking at the closing ceremony of 69th National School Games-2025 organised by Department of Youth Services & Sports and School Games Federation of India (SGFI) at Jammu.

In his address, the Lieutenant Governor asked the youth to nurture the spirit of oneness and build a better world, free of discrimination.

“Young athletes are the architects of the nation’s destiny and they are responsible for promoting the spirit of national unity to build a golden future of this country. Youthful energy working for the national goals usher dynamism into the society,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

The Lieutenant Governor congratulated all the winners and participants. He also extended his felicitations to the teams’ management, coaches, and officials for the successful conduct of the National School Games.

“Dream big and have the courage to make those dreams come true. As role models, you hold a special place in society and have a huge responsibility to inspire the coming generations, both on and off the field. From the sports field to the grassroots level, you must continuously strive for progressive policies and social transformation through sports,” the Lieutenant Governor told the youth.

The Lieutenant Governor handed over trophies to the winners and other top performing teams and the players who excelled in the different games’ disciplines. He also released a Compendium of Department of Youth Services and Sports.

The Games successfully featured four disciplines: Football, Wushu, Taekwondo, and Table Tennis, drawing participation from athletes across 34 states and union territories.

Ms. Yasha Mudgal, Commissioner/Secretary to Government, Youth Services and Sports; Ms Anuradha Gupta, Director General Youth Services and Sports; senior officials, prominent sports personalities, and youth in large number attended the closing ceremony.

Udhampur girl Pritama Devi shines at Sub-Junior National Judo Championship

DC felicitates young athlete for winning Silver

 

UDHAMPUR, NOVEMBER 24: Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Saloni Rai today felicitated Pritama Devi, the silver medalist at the Sub-Junior National Judo Championship and Chief Judo Coach, Suraj Bhan Singh for bringing pride to the district.

Pritama Devi, daughter of Yashpal and a resident of Shivnagar, Devika, Udhampur, bagged a silver medal in the Sub-Junior National Judo Championship held in Hyderabad, Telangana, from 16 to 20 November 2025. Pritama has been consistently training at the Subhash Stadium Indoor Complex Judo Hall under the expert coaching of Suraj Bhan Singh, Chief Judo Coach, J&K Sports Council.

This year, 16 players from Jammu & Kashmir, including 8 boys and 8 girls participated in the national championship.

In addition to Pritama’s silver medal in the minus 40 kg weight category, athletes from Ganderbal, Kashmir, secured two bronze medals, marking a strong overall performance by the UT contingent.

While congratulating the young athlete, the DC commended Pritama’s dedication, discipline and hard work. She also acknowledged the pivotal role of Coach, Suraj Bhan Singh in nurturing the emerging talent in the region. Highlighting the significance of the sports, the DC remarked that Judo serves as an empowering and effective self-defense discipline for girls.

Islamia College Lifts Title at 4th Inter-College Volleyball Tournament (Men) 2025

SRINAGAR, NOVEMBER 17: Islamia College of Science and Commerce registered an impressive victory over Government Sri Pratap College Srinagar to emerge champions of the 4th Edition Inter-College Volleyball Tournament (Men) 2025.

The tournament was organized by the Department of Physical Education, Government College of Education (IASE) M.A. Road, Srinagar.

The competition witnessed spirited and intense matches among various participating colleges. Islamia College displayed exceptional skill, teamwork, and consistency throughout the event, ultimately securing the coveted title in a well-fought final match.

The closing ceremony was graced by the Nodal Principal, Kashmir Division Colleges, Prof. (Dr.) Seema Naz, who attended as the chief guest.

In her address, she congratulated the winning team for their outstanding performance and appreciated all participating institutions for promoting sportsmanship and healthy competition.

Faculty members, sports officials, and students were present on the occasion, making the event a vibrant celebration of youth talent and competitive spirit.

Later, Prof. Seema Naz presented trophies to the winners and participants, marking a memorable conclusion to the tournament.

Sports Minister, Advisor to CM lead 3rd Jammu Midnight Marathon at M.A Stadium to boost Fitness Movement across J&K

JAMMU, NOVEMBER 15: Minister for Youth Services & Sports, Satish Sharma and Advisor to Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani today lead the 3rd Jammu Midnight Marathon at M.A Stadium here to boost Fitness Movement across J&K.

The 3rd edition of Jammu Midnight Marathon, organised by J&K Sports Council in collaboration with Real Time Sports, was successfully held last night and early this morning at MA Stadium here.

Minister for Youth Services & Sports, Satish Sharma and Advisor to Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani were also present on the occasion.

In his address, Minister Satish Sharma said, “Our priority is to create an ecosystem where athletes have access to quality training, world-class facilities, and regular competitive exposure”.

He added that events like Midnight Marathon strengthen community participation and inspire people, especially youth to adopt fitness as a daily habit. “A healthy J&K is our commitment, and we will continue expanding initiatives that benefit athletes and society at large,” he stated.

Advisor to the Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani, praised the event, stating, “The enthusiasm witnessed today reflects the evolving sports culture in J&K. Under the dynamic leadership of our CM, We are enhancing infrastructure, supporting athletes at every level, and encouraging citizens to embrace physical activity. Events like these unite communities and motivate youth toward disciplined, active living”.

Pertinently, the marathon witnessed an impressive turnout, with more than 600 runners from diverse age groups, turning the event into a vibrant celebration of fitness, determination, and community spirit.

Participants competed across two phases as the night-time run transformed the stadium and adjoining tracks into an energetic arena of lights, cheers, and athletic enthusiasm. The event reaffirmed J&K’s growing commitment to health, fitness, and active lifestyles.

Secretary, J&K Sports Council along with senior officers of JKSC also witnessed the marathon, reiterating ongoing initiatives to upgrade infrastructure, strengthen coaching systems, and widen opportunities for athletes across J&K.

At the closing ceremony, winners of both phases of the marathon were felicitated for their commitment and competitive spirit. The recognition added further energy to the event, inspiring many first-time runners to pursue sports and fitness more seriously.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Sharma extended his best wishes to the players representing the Union Territory at the upcoming national event and expressed pride in the growing participation of J&K’s youth in emerging sports disciplines. He commended the Jammu & Kashmir Pickleball Association for its consistent and committed efforts in promoting Pickleball across districts and building a strong sporting culture in the region.

The tournament was inaugurated by SSP Shopian Shri Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary-JKPS, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. JAMMU, NOVEMBER 09: Commissioner Secretary Youth Services and Sports, Yasha Mudgal declared open the 69th National School Games in Taekwondo Under-19 Boys category at Indoor Sports Complex Bhagwati Nagar here today.

Addressing a large gathering of players on the occasion, the Commissioner Secretary said that the attitude of talented athletes consistently transforms challenges into triumphs, embodying determination and resilience at every turn. She added that Sports and games, apart from promoting physical fitness, play a crucial role in nurturing mental, moral, and emotional well-being, contributing to the holistic developments to of one’s personality.

Yasha Mudgal emphasized that sports play a pivotal role in fostering unity, friendship, and understanding among young people from diverse regions across the country.

“Sports build bridges of unity and friendship. I am delighted to be here with you at the inauguration of the 69th National School Games. It gives me immense pleasure, on behalf of myself, my colleagues, and people of Jammu and Kashmir, to warmly welcome all of you to this prestigious tournament,” she said.

The Commissioner Secretary assured the participants of full support from the government and the organizers, adding that every effort would be made to ensure their comfort, safety, and well-being.

While extending her wishes to participants, the Commissioner Secretary said, “As the saying goes, winning is not as important as taking part. I sincerely admire your enthusiasm and dedication in coming here to compete,”.

Earlier, Director General of Youth Services and Sports, Anuradha Gupta, in her welcome address stated that the department had made all necessary arrangements to host the event in a fitting and well-organized manner, assuring that no stone would be left unturned to ensure the comfort and safety of the visiting athletes.

Pertinently, this grand sporting spectacle brings together 34 teams, representing diverse States, Union Territories, and Organizations from all corners of the country, reflecting unity, teamwork, and the true essence of competitiveness.

The impressive march past by the 34 participating teams drew appreciation from the Commissioner Secretary and applause from a large gathering of spectators present at the venue. Players, coaches, and team officials also took an oath of sportsmanship, pledging to uphold the values of fair play, discipline, and teamwork while preserving the sanctity and spirit of sports.

Meanwhile, Jammu & Kashmir began the championship in fine style, with Nasir ul Islam delivering his rival from Telangana in the quarterfinals to seal berth in the semi-finals, thus ensuring medal.

In other results of the day, NVS defeated Odisha, Bihar outplayed Jharkhand, Telangana triumphed over Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu overcame West Bengal, Assam prevailed against CISCE, Haryana beat Himachal Pradesh, Mizoram defeated Vidya Bharati, CBSE outclassed Maharashtra, Delhi edged past Karnataka, Andhra outperformed IPSC, KVS beat Goa, Uttarakhand won against Kerala, and Gujarat triumphed over Rajasthan.

KU begins 10-day AFC ‘B’ football coaching course with AIFF, FPAI

Participants from across India to attend intensive football coach education programme

Srinagar, Sept 05: To strengthen coach education and promote professional football training in the region, a 10-day AFC “B” Diploma Coaching Course commenced on Friday at the University of Kashmir (KU). The programme is being organised by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) in collaboration with the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports (DPES), KU, and the Football Players’ Association of India (FPAI).
A total of 24 football enthusiasts from North India, South India, Central India, and the North-Eastern states are participating in the course, which is designed to provide modern training methodologies, advanced coaching techniques, and updated practices to aspiring football coaches.
Vice-Chancellor KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, in her message, highlighted the importance of the programme, terming it an important step towards nurturing sporting talent in the country.
“The University is committed to promoting sports education alongside academic excellence. Collaborations with premier institutions like AIFF and FPAI provide our youth with global-level exposure and opportunities to excel in sports. Initiatives like these strengthen our resolve to make varsity a hub of sporting talent and professional training,” she said.
Prof. Tariq Ahmad Chishti, Director, Centre for Distance and Online Education KU, at the inaugural session, lauded the DPES for conducting impactful activities and termed the course a significant step towards advancing football coaching at the national level.
Prof. Musavir Ahmad, Head, Department of Linguistics and Media Advisor, KU, also addressed the gathering and highlighted the University’s growing partnerships with national sporting bodies and federations.
Earlier, Dr. Surjeet Singh, Coordinator, DPES KU, in his welcome address, said that the Directorate is committed to advancing coach education and skill development in football.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by administrative officers, coaches, AIFF officials, representatives from FPAI, veteran footballers, and several international players.

GCOE Organizes Annual College Road Race 2025 for Men & Women

Srinagar, June 4, 2025: The Government College of Education (GCOE), Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (IASE), M.A. Road, Srinagar, proudly hosted its Annual College Road Race – 2025, uniting over 60 enthusiastic athletes from various academic programs in a spirited and seamlessly coordinated event.

The race was officially flagged off at 6:00 a.m. by Dr. Mohammad Yasin Pir, Convenor of the College Sports Committee, along with other committee members and faculty, underscoring the college’s commitment to promoting physical wellness and holistic student development.

In the 4.6 km men’s race, Mr. Hashim Nabi (UG 6th Semester, Roll No. 56) emerged victorious, closely followed by Hyder Ali Mir (UG 2nd Semester, Roll No. 03) in second place and Mohd Junaid Dar (UG 2nd Semester, Roll No. 53) securing third.

The women’s 4.6 km race saw Asma (B.Ed 3rd Semester, Roll No. 16) taking first place, with Sehla Jan (UG 4th Semester, Roll No. 22) and Aabirah Amin (UG 4th Semester, Roll No. 32) finishing second and third respectively.

The award ceremony was held amidst the scenic beauty of Nishat, Srinagar, where Prof. (Dr.) Seema Naz, Principal of GCOE and Nodal Principal for Kashmir Division Colleges, honored the winners with trophies and medals. In her inspiring address, she highlighted the vital role of sports and fitness in everyday life and encouraged students to participate wholeheartedly in future sporting events. She also commended the Physical Education Department and the Sports Committee for their flawless execution of the race. Additionally, she emphasized the importance of both indoor and outdoor sports in promoting physical fitness and overall well-being, urging students to engage actively in such activities to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
