GCOE Organizes Annual College Road Race 2025 for Men & Women

Srinagar, June 4, 2025: The Government College of Education (GCOE), Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (IASE), M.A. Road, Srinagar, proudly hosted its Annual College Road Race – 2025, uniting over 60 enthusiastic athletes from various academic programs in a spirited and seamlessly coordinated event.

The race was officially flagged off at 6:00 a.m. by Dr. Mohammad Yasin Pir, Convenor of the College Sports Committee, along with other committee members and faculty, underscoring the college’s commitment to promoting physical wellness and holistic student development.

In the 4.6 km men’s race, Mr. Hashim Nabi (UG 6th Semester, Roll No. 56) emerged victorious, closely followed by Hyder Ali Mir (UG 2nd Semester, Roll No. 03) in second place and Mohd Junaid Dar (UG 2nd Semester, Roll No. 53) securing third.

The women’s 4.6 km race saw Asma (B.Ed 3rd Semester, Roll No. 16) taking first place, with Sehla Jan (UG 4th Semester, Roll No. 22) and Aabirah Amin (UG 4th Semester, Roll No. 32) finishing second and third respectively.

The award ceremony was held amidst the scenic beauty of Nishat, Srinagar, where Prof. (Dr.) Seema Naz, Principal of GCOE and Nodal Principal for Kashmir Division Colleges, honored the winners with trophies and medals. In her inspiring address, she highlighted the vital role of sports and fitness in everyday life and encouraged students to participate wholeheartedly in future sporting events. She also commended the Physical Education Department and the Sports Committee for their flawless execution of the race. Additionally, she emphasized the importance of both indoor and outdoor sports in promoting physical fitness and overall well-being, urging students to engage actively in such activities to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

The event was gracefully moderated by Dr. Qazi Inam Saboor (PTI), ensuring a smooth and professional flow throughout. Capturing the day’s energy and key moments was Mr. Girdari Lal, who handled photography and videography with great skill.

This successful event was expertly coordinated by the College Sports Committee members — Dr. Mohammad Yasin Pir, Dr. Mohd Ashraf Wagi, Dr. Irfat Ara, Mr. Fazl Illahi, Mr. Arshad Saleh, Dr. Qazi Inam Saboor, Ms. Daljeet Kour, and Mr. Girdari — under the dynamic leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Seema Naz.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah attends I-League match at TRC Ground

SRINAGAR, APRIL 6: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday attended an I-League football match between Real Kashmir Football Club (RKFC) and Churchill Brothers Goa at the TRC Ground in Srinagar.

He was accompanied by his Advisor, Nasir Aslam Wani, Commissioner Secretary Youth Services & Sports, Secretary J&K Sports Council and other senior officials.

The match was witnessed by a spirited large local crowd.

The thrilling encounter ended in a 1-1 draw. As a gesture of support, Omar Abdullah wore the Real Kashmir FC jersey, symbolizing his solidarity with the team and its growing fan base.

The Chief Minister lauded Real Kashmir FC for creating opportunities for Kashmiri youth to participate in top-tier national football leagues. He also interacted with the players and officials of both teams, commending their performance and sportsmanship.

GCOE Srinagar kick-starts Fit India Movement-2025

Director Colleges, Nodal Principal Kashmir Division Colleges flag-off the run

SRINAGAR, APRIL 05: Government College of Education (IASE) M. A. Road, Srinagar Saturday kick-started the Fit India Movement (Men/Women) 2025 with an inspiring event promoting physical fitness and wellness across the campus.

The run was officially flagged-off by Director Colleges Higher Education Department (HED), Prof. (Dr.) Sheikh Aijaz Bashir, along with Dr. Seema Naz, Nodal Principal Kashmir Division Colleges.

As many as 100 students of various colleges of the city participated in the event.

The run commenced from the main gate of the host college, passed through M. A. Road, Dalgate and culminated at Nehru Park Srinagar.

On the occasion, participants were encouraged to engage in physical exercises and wellness discussions to enhance their understanding of holistic health.

Students from both male and female categories participated actively in the event, reflecting the institution’s commitment to promoting fitness among all sections of the community.

This event was a great step towards fostering a culture of fitness and healthy living in academic institutions, with both Director Colleges Higher Education and Nodal Principal Kashmir Division Colleges playing pivotal roles in driving this message forward.

On the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Sheikh Ajaz said that the initiative is aligned with the goals of the Fit India Movement, aiming to encourage citizens, especially the younger generation, to incorporate physical activity into their daily lives. By focusing on both male and female participants, the event emphasizes fitness as an inclusive, essential aspect of life, breaking down gender barriers in physical wellness activities.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from both male and female students, as well as faculty and staff members, reflecting the institution’s commitment to fostering a culture of health and wellness, he added.

Prof. (Dr.) Seema said that this initiative aligns with the broader objectives of the Fit India Movement, aiming to inspire individuals to prioritize their health and lead active lifestyles. KU’s Sajid Dar selected as regional head of coach education by AIFF

Srinagar, March 10: Mr. Sajid Yousuf Dar, football coach at the University of Kashmir (KU), has been selected as Regional Head of Coach Education- North India by the All India Football Federation (AIFF).

Additionally, he has been selected as a member of the four-member Study Group tasked with evaluating the performance of India’s national football teams in both the men’s and women’s categories.

Vice-Chancellor KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, congratulated Mr. Sajid on this accomplishment, stating, “This is a proud moment for the University. His selection at such a prestigious level reflects his dedication and expertise in football coaching. We are confident that he will make a significant impact in Indian football.”

IUST shines in All India Inter-University Winter Sports

Awantipora, February 1: The Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST) bagged the Winner’s Trophy in the All India Inter-University Winter Sports Championship in Snow Skiing. The university also clinched the Runner-up Trophy in the Boys’ Category and achieved an impressive third-place finish in Ice Stock, marking a significant milestone in its sports journey.

The felicitation ceremony was attended by Shri Satish Sharma, Honourable Sports Minister of J&K, as the Chief Guest, along with Guests of Honour, including Farooq Ahmad Shah (MLA, Gulmarg), Prof. Shakil Ahmed Romshoo (Vice Chancellor, IUST), Prof. Nilofer Khan (Vice Chancellor, KU), and Prof. Prof Ravinder Nath (Vice Chancellor, CUK).

Prof. Shakil Ahmed Romshoo emphasized that this victory reflects IUST’s dedication to promoting athletics and nurturing young talent, further strengthening Kashmir’s reputation as a premier destination for winter sports. Dr. Hilal Ahmad Rather, Assistant Director Physical Education and Sports at IUST, expressed immense pride in the athletes’ dedication and resilience and reiterated IUST’s commitment to fostering sports excellence and encouraging students to compete at national and international levels.

IUST’s athletes delivered outstanding performances in various categories. In Ice Stock, the men’s team, consisting of Abdul Moiz Qadari, Abdul Qadeer Khanday, Mohd Taif Khanday, and Mohd Azim, won gold, while Toyebah Tariq secured a silver medal in the women’s category. In Snow Skiing, Sadiya Ayjaz dominated the women’s category, winning two gold medals. Ryaan Hassan Khan secured a silver medal in Slalom, while Haadi Hassan Khan and Jamid Yaqoob won bronze medals in Slalom and G-Slalom, respectively.

Inter-College Table Tennis Tournament (Men & Women) held at GCoE Srinagar

The tournament was inaugurated by Nodal Principal Kashmir Division Colleges, Prof. Dr. Seema Naz amidst fervent cheers and enthusiasm from participants and spectators alike.

The Tournament witnessed an impressive participation of students/players almost from all the affiliated/constituent colleges of the Cluster University of Srinagar.

In the Men’s category S.P. College Srinagar lifted the Winner’s Trophy while as AAAM Degree College Bemina secured the Runner-Up Position. On the other hand in Women’s Category AAAM Degree College Bemina won the 2024 title of Inter College Table Tennis Tournament while as Govt. College of Engineering and Technology Safapora was declared as the Runners-Up.

An extraordinary felicitation ceremony was observed after the completion of the tournament in which Registrar Cluster University of Srinagar Prof. (Dr.) Syed Vilayat Hussain Razvi and the Nodal Principal Kashmir Division Colleges Prof. Dr. Seema Naz were the chief guests.

The winners and the Runners-Up were felicitated with the Trophies while all the participants shall be awarded with the certificates of participation. In his message, Registrar CUS highlighted the importance of sports in one’s life and the initiatives taken by the University for the accomplishment of students’ endeavors in games and sports.

He emphasized the significance of sports and physical activities in fostering holistic development among students. He applauded the efforts of the Sports Secretary of CUS and the role of Physical Director of the constituent/affiliated Colleges for organizing such events successfully and encouraged everyone to actively engage in sports for a balanced lifestyle.

Speaking on the occasion Nodal Principal Kashmir Division Colleges, Prof. Dr. Seema Naz appreciated the functioning of the respective Physical Education and Sports Departments of various colleges and assured her support at all levels for the brighter future of students.

Govt. College of Education, Srinagar celebrates National Sports Day

Srinagar, August 29: The Department of Physical Education, Govt. College of Education (GCoE), M.A. Road, Srinagar, celebrated National Sports Day today with great fervor and excitement, organizing a variety of activities under the enthusiastic leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Seema Naz, the esteemed Principal of the college.

The event was inaugurated by Dr. Irfat Ara, Dr. Mansoor Ahmad Lone, Prof. A.G. Kumar, Prof. Shawana Manzoor, Prof. Syed Altaf Ahmad, Arshad Sauleh, and Mrs. Daljeet Kour.

The programme was dedicated to the memory of Hockey Player Major Dhyan Chand, recognizing his remarkable contributions to bringing pride to the nation on the international stage.

The programme aimed to promote the spirit of sportsmanship and physical fitness among students witnessed huge of students who were encouraged to take part in extracurricular activities and hone their talents for participation at national and international levels.

On the occasion, the activities featured a range of sports and games aimed at encouraging student engagement, highlighting the value of sportsmanship and physical fitness, and promoting an active lifestyle. The events included volleyball (Men and Women), badminton (Men and Women), and five-a-side women’s hockey.

The IASE Blue team secured victory in the men’s volleyball event. In badminton, Rashid-Ul-Hassan and Sibat Andrabi of the IASE Green team won the men’s event, while Mohd Zubair and Shabir Ahmad of the IASE Blue team were the runners-up.

For the women’s badminton event, Syed Deemanah and Asma Nabi of the IASE Red team emerged as the winners, with Insha Iqbal and Muskan Bilal of the IASE Blue team finishing as runners-up. The IASE Red team triumphed in the women’s hockey event.

The culmination of the events featured an awards ceremony where Dr. Mohd Yasin Pir (Convenor of Sports), Fazl Illahi, Prof. Abdul Gani Kumar, Mrs. Daljit Kour, and Ghirdhari Lal distributed trophies to participants in recognition of their achievements.

Dr. Irfat Ara commended the Physical Education Department for their dedication in planning and executing the events and encouraged active involvement from both staff and students.

Police official earns silver medal in Judo at All-India Police Games

Pulwama Police facilitates Aamir Hamid Wani for historic selection to Pro Kabaddi League

Kupwara, August 23: In a remarkable achievement, a police official Farhat Gulzar (Special Police Officer) posted in Kupwara has brought great honor to the Jammu and Kashmir Police by earning a silver medal in judo at All-India Police Games. The event, which was held in Guwahati and hosted by Assam Police, took place from June 24 to June 30, 2024.

Farhat Gulzar’s outstanding performance at the All-India Police Games is a testament to his dedication and hard work. As a result of his success at the national level, he has been selected to participate in the World Police and Fire Games, scheduled to be held in California, USA, in February 2025. In recognition of his outstanding achievement, Farhat Gulzar was felicitated by Shobhit Saksena-IPS, SSP Kupwara at a ceremony at District Police Office, Kupwara.

Moreover, SSP Pulwama Smt. P D Nitya-IPS congratulated and presented an appreciation certificate & cash rewarded an athlete Aamir Hamid Wani from Dadoora, Pulwama during a special ceremony. SSP Pulwama lauded Aamir’s perseverance and hard work, noting that his achievement serves as an inspiration to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.

Aamir Hamid Wani has made history by becoming the first player from Jammu and Kashmir to be selected for the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL). Aamir, who has been passionate about kabaddi since his childhood, secured a position in the league with a base price of Rs 9 lakh, marking a significant milestone in his sports career.

Raja Danish Amaan & Maajid Khan declared winners of RSGC FourBall Best Ball Golf Tournament

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 14: The Royal Spring Golf Course (RSGC) today declared the results for FourBall Best Ball Golf Tournament held at RSGC, here.
The tournament, played over five days on a knockout basis, featured 40 players and a total of 19 matches. The final took place on August 13, 2024.
Raja Danish Amaan and Maajid Khan were adjudged victorious of the RSGC Four Ball Best Ball Golf Tournament. Their determination and skill were outstanding.
The competition was tough, with many talented golfers participating. Raja Danish Amaan and Maajid Khan stood out with their excellent performance and strong focus, earning a well-deserved win. Danish Ayoub Khan and Shafat Sultan were declared runners-up, for their impressive performance.
Secretary of RSGC, Mufti M. Farid Ud congratulated Danish Amaan and Maajid Khan on their amazing win. He said their hard work, dedication and sportsmanship have been impressive.
Congratulations to all the participants for making the tournament exciting and competitive until the very end. Your sportsmanship and competitive spirit added greatly to the event.

Annual inter-college football tourney kicks off at KU

Srinagar, August 12 : The annual Inter-College Football Tournament kicked off at the University of Kashmir (KU), amid great enthusiasm and energy here Friday.

The much anticipated event brings together over 26 affiliated colleges under the university’s banner, offering students a platform to showcase their football talent and competitive spirit.

Organised by the Directorate of Physical Education & Sports (DPES), KU, the tournament is a cornerstone of the university’s vibrant sports calendar.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Director, DPES, Prof Tariq Ahmad Chishti, emphasised the vital role of sports in the holistic development of students.

“Participation in sports not only nurtures physical well-being but also instills discipline, teamwork and resilience in our students,” Prof Chisti said, adding that the varsity is committed to providing the best facilities and opportunities for youth to excel in sports and bring laurels to their institutions.

The inaugural match of the tournament saw an exciting contest between GDC Pampore and IITM Hyderpora, with GDC Pampore securing a decisive victory by 4 goals to 1. The match set the tone for what promises to be a thrilling series of games, as colleges compete for the championship title.

Prof Chishti further highlighted the significance of the tournament as a preparatory event for the upcoming All India and North Zone Inter-University Championships.

“The players who shine in these inter-college competitions will have the opportunity to represent the University of Kashmir on larger platforms. Our goal is to encourage a strong sports culture and prepare our teams for national-level competitions,” he maintained.

The tournament is also being held as part of the university’s celebrations leading up to the 78th Independence Day, adding a sense of national pride to the event.

“Sports events like this are not just about competition; they are about celebrating our unity, our spirit, and our shared commitment to excellence as a nation,” Prof Chishti said.

Assistant Director, Dr Surjit Bali; Assistant Director, Dr Basharat Ali; Football Coach, Tausif Bhat; PTI, Sajid Yousuf Dar; and In-charge Sports IITM Hyderpora, Sakeena Bashir were present at the inaugural ceremony.

According to the organisers, the tournament promises to be a showcase of emerging talent and sportsmanship, reflecting KU’s dedication to nurturing well-rounded individuals who excel both in academics and athletics.
