Awantipora, August 6 – Inter-Departmental Cricket Tournament (Men) 2024 organized by the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports commenced today at the Islamic University of
Science and Technology (IUST). During the tournament, 20 teams from various departments who will compete against each other. Prof. Abdul Wahid, Registrar IUST and Mr. Sameer
Wazir, Finance Officer inaugurated the tournament.
Dr. Hilal Ahmad Rather, AD Sports welcomed the participants and introduced the teams. Prof Abdul Wahid appreciated the organizers and said that extra-curricular activities are
important to develop a rounded personality. He said that sports inculcate team spirit and foster a sense of camaraderie.
Mr. Sameer Wazir, Finance Officer IUST, in his address to the participants said that development of sports infrastructure is being prioritized and on the directions of Vice
Chancellor, Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo sports policy is being framed to give our youth platform to participate in national and international events and bring laurels to the country.
BARAMULLA, AUGUST 05: The two-week-long Inter District Provincial Level (IDPL) Handball Competition for All Age Groups (AAG) Boys and Girls, concluded today at the Indoor Stadium Baramulla.
Today’s finale featured an exciting Under 14 final match between Baramulla and Bandipora, with Bandipora emerging as the winner of the IDPL Handball Competition. The winning and runner-up trophies were awarded to both teams.
This prestigious competition saw participation from almost 10 districts across the Kashmir province, bringing together 960 young athletes from different age categories, both boys and girls.
Over the course of the competition, Baramulla won four out of six titles – two titles from the boys’ category and two titles from the girls’ category. Bandipora also showcased its talent, winning two out of six titles, one from each category.
The DYSSO Baramulla, extended his heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in making this competition a resounding success.
The IDPL Handball Competition besides highlighting the exceptional talent of young athletes from various districts also reinforced the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie. The event has undoubtedly inspired and motivated young athletes to continue striving for excellence in sports.
SRINAGAR, AUGUST 5: As part of ongoing Nationwide Sanitation campaign ‘Swachhta Pakwada’, Government College of Education (GCOE) M. A. Road today organised a Cycle Rally, here.
The cycle rally was flagged-off by the Principal of the college, Professor (Dr.) Seema Naz.
As many as 21 cyclists of the college participated in the rally that started from the College campus and passed through Moulana Azad Road, Dalgate, Boulevard Road and culminated at Botanical Garden.
All the participants showed immense interest and enthusiastically participated in the event.
On the way, the participants interacted with a few locals and non-local tourists to create awareness about the environment and significance of ‘Swachhata’ for Fit India mission and the event was overwhelmingly appreciated by them and they pledged to carry the message of Clean India – Fit India forward also.
The participants emphasized the role that each individual plays in contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment and encourage active participation in the Swachh Bharat Mission.
On the occasion, Dr. Seema Naz said that the Physical Education Department of the college organized a cycle rally as part of the Swachhata Pakhwada, which is a fantastic way to promote cleanliness and sanitation while also encouraging eco-friendly transportation.
She said the cycle rally is a visible and engaging way to raise awareness about the importance of cleanliness and sanitation in the community. It is also a great way to involve students, faculty, and staff in the initiative, promoting a sense of ownership and responsibility towards maintaining a clean environment.
I hope the cycle rally was a success and helped spread awareness about the importance of Swachhata in the community, she added.
Dr. Seema Naz appreciated the role of students and Physical Education Department for making the event a grand success.

SRINAGAR, JUNE 12: The 3rd Inter College Volleyball cum Table Tennis Tournament (Men/Women) 2024 organised by Department of Physical Education, Govt. College of Education (IASE), M.A. Road, Srinagar from 10th June, 2024, under the leadership and guidance of Principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Seema Naz culminated here today.
A total of 38 teams participated from 14 different Colleges of the Valley along with the constituent and affiliated colleges of the Cluster University Srinagar. In the volleyball tournament, 11 Men and 08 Women Teams participated whereas in Table Tennis (T.T) Tournament total 08 Men and 11 Women Teams showed their participation with great zeal and zest.
Dr. Nazir Ahmad Bhat (HOD Education) along with Dr. Mohammad Yasin Pir (Convenor Sports), Prof. Mansoor Ahmad Lone (Co-convener) Dr. Mohammad Ashraf Wagi (Staff Secretary), Dr. Irfat Ara, Prof Abdul Gani Kumar, Dr Bilal Ahmad Malla and Daljeet Kour inaugurated all the events of the tournament on 10-06-2024 (Monday).
In the brief Inaugural ceremony Dr. Nazir Ahmad Bhat (Dean Students Welfare) encouraged the participants and highlighted the importance of Games and Sports in the day today life.
In the Volleyball Category (Men), the final match was played between the AAAM Degree College Bemina and GDC, Alochi Bagh in which AAAM Degree College, Bemina defeated GDC, Alochi Bagh and bagged the volley trophy.
In the Volleyball Category (Women), the final match was played between Govt. Women’s College M.A.Road, Srinagar and S. P.College, Srinagar in which Govt. Womens’ College M. A. Road defeated S.P. College, Srinagar and bagged the volley trophy.
In the Table Tennis Category (Men), the final match was played between the S.P. College Srinagar and Gandhi College, Srinagar in which S.P. College Srinagar defeated Gandhi College, Srinagar and bagged the Table Tennis Trophy.
In the Table Tennis Category (Women), the final match was played between GCET, Safapora and Amar Singh College, Srinagar in which GCET, Safapora defeated Amar Singh College, Srinagar and bagged the trophy.
The brief valediction function was held today in the multipurpose hall of the college in which trophies and medals were distributed to the Winners and Runner Ups by Dr. Nazir Ahmad Bhat (Dean Students Welfare) and college sports committee.
The event was officiated by four officials deputed by District Youth Services & Sports Department (UT of J&K).
The 3 days event was smoothly conducted by the Department of Physical Education comprising Dr. Mohd Yasin Pir (Convener, Sports), Dr. Bilal Ahmad (PTI), Daljeet Kour (APTI) and Girdari Lal.
SRINAGAR, JUNE 10: The Department of Physical Education, Amar Singh College Srinagar organised the Annual College Road Race for Boys.
Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Nodal Principal Kashmir Division Colleges and Principal Amar Singh College flagged-off the 8 Kms road race in the presence of Prof. Gurdeep Singh Sodhi Convener Sports Committee, and Dr. Tanveer Ahmad Bhat, Physical Director of the college.
The teaching and non-teaching staff from the institute were also present at the occasion.
Around 136 energetic students from different streams participated in the race enthusiastically, displaying a spirit of sportsmanship and resilience.
For a smooth and hassle-free race, the college deployed the faculty at all the Ghats along the racing track in addition to the men in uniform by the traffic department and the availability of moving ambulances by the Department of Health & Medical Education.
The racers were received by Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Principal, Prof. Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Head Department of Zoology and Prof. Aijaz Fareed, Head Department of Geography at the finishing line at Nishat Gardens.
Hazim Nabi of 2nd semester, Wajahat Mukhtar of 2nd Semester and Tanveer Ahmad of 2nd Semester bagged 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions covering the distance in 22.25, 25.37 and 26.3 minutes, respectively.
Later in an impressive prize distribution ceremony at Nishat, the winners were awarded with trophies and consolation prizes.
Addressing the racers at the function, Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir said that sports is a part and parcel of the curriculum and plays a vital role in the overall development of an individual. He congratulated the sports department and committee for organizing the race and encouraged the racers for their active participation.
Prof. Ajaz assured that sports infrastructure shall be strengthened and the latest facilities shall be put in place to facilitate the students for better performance and to compete at the National level.
Muhammad Kaif, Muskan Bilal wins GCOE college annual road race
SRINAGAR, MAY 9: The Sports Board of Government College of Education (GCOE) under the leadership of Principal, Prof. Seema Naz organised annual college road race for men and women from Nehru Park to Nishat garden and SKICC to Nishat garden here today.
The race for men was flagged off by Convenor College Sports Board, Dr. Mohammad Yasin Pir. Around 31 athletes from the College participated in the race.
During the race, Muhammad Kaif (UG 2nd Semester student), from the start took the lead by sprinting ahead of rest of competitors and finished first with a comfortable lead. He covered the distance in 40:25 minutes followed by Gowhar Ahmad (UG 4th Semester student), who covered it in 41:00 minutes while as Showkat Ahmad (UG 2nd Semester student) finished third with the timing of 42:45 minutes.
Similarly, the race for women run was flagged off by Staff Secretary, Dr. Mohammad Ashraf Wagi in which around 25 athletes from the college participated.
Muskan Bilal (B.eD 1st Semester student), from the start took lead by sprinting ahead of rest of competitors and finished first with a comfortable lead. She covered the distance in 50:25 minutes followed by Syed Soulleh (B.Ed 1st Semester student) who covered distance in 55:00 minutes while as Sehla Jan (UG 2nd Semester student) finished third with the timing of 57:45 minutes.
The prize distribution ceremony of both the race events was held at Naseem Bagh, University of Kashmir here, in which trophies were awarded to first three position holders while medals were awarded to rest of the athletes by the college Principal Prof. Seema Naz and College Sport Board members.
On the occasion, the Principal of the college in her brief speech congratulated the winners and complimented the participants of the event. She impressed upon the girl students to take part in the sports activities.
She briefed the students about the importance of sports and urged them to participate in more and more events to be organized by the sports board.
Dr. Naz also congratulated the efforts of Physical Education department for successful conduct of the event and appreciated their efforts in conducting various events in a very conducive and efficient manner
SRINAGAR, MARCH 18: The Department of Physical Education in collaboration with Women’s Studies Centre, of the Government College of Education (GCoE), IASE organised ‘4 days Martial Art Camp’ for the female students of the college.
Principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Seema Naz on this occasion encouraged the participating female students and also highlighted the importance of martial art and self defensive skills especially for women in day today life.
A total number of 31 female students of the college participated in the camp. The focus was on developing self-defensive skills, increased confidence and flexibility, better coordination, improving mental stamina, improving social skills, developing self-discipline and stress relief to the female participants.
The trainee Azmat Khan trained the female students for four consecutive days. She was assisted by Zahid Khan, a student of the college during days of training.
The camp was organized from 4th to 7th March, 2024, and the valedictory function of the camp was held on 16-03-2024 in the multi-purpose hall of the college.
On valedictory function, Principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Seema Naz along with Dr. M Yasin Pir (convenor sports), Dr. Nazir Ahmad Bhat, Dr Mohammad Ashraf Wagi, Dr. Tawheeda Rasool (convenor W.S.C), Prof. A.G Kumar, Dr. Bilal Ahmad Malla (PTI) and M.S Daljeet Kour Dutta distributed Trophies and certificates among the participants and trainers of the camp.
JAMMU, JANUARY 24: Jammu and Kashmir’s promising and rising star in rhythmic gymnastics, Muskan Rana, a 15 year old trainee of Gymnastic Academy of J&K Sports Council, has brought laurels to the UT by clinching five medals in the ongoing Khelo India Youth Games 2024 being held in Chennai.
Muskan has bagged one gold, two silver and one bronze medal at the national championship making J&K proud with her exceptional sports talent.
The J&K Sports Council has launched a number of initiatives to promote this Olympic sport in J&K. Established at Jammu’s M A stadium, the Sports Council Gymnastics Academy has been equipped with state-of-the-art, world-class infrastructure. The Arjuna Awardee ‘Krupali Singh’ is one of the best performing coaches imparting completely professional training to the players at this academy.
The Sports Authority of India has accredited this academy as Khelo India Academy for Gymnastics of national repute and athletes of this academy have performed admirably at the national and international competitions. In the past two years, the trainees of this academy have earned 8 gold, 15 silver and 9 bronze medals in National Games, Khelo India Youth Games and national championships.

Besides, 11 athletes have represented India in the international competitions. Athletes like Bavleen Kour, Muskan Rana, Jagriti Thakur, Vaibhavi Sharma, Manya, Stuti Gupta, Sneha Dewan,Viomini Dogra, Vandhana Bharathi, Gourav Chettri, Yaadvi Mahajan, Manav Gupta, Lakhsya Mahajan, Sahil Sahi, Kamal Singh, Inderdeep Singh, Mayank Jain, Sudipti Khanna, Rudraksh Khanna, Ayman Tak, Pranvi Sharma, Aakshra Sharma, Riya Sharma, Triza Bilal, Prachi Sharma, Shranya Sharma and Hargun Kaur are regular trainees of Gymnastics Academy of J&K Sports Council who have made all of us proud time and again.
The J&K gymnasts’ performance and accomplishments have increased significantly and they have won numerous medals because of the availability of international standard equipments. They have also performed incredibly well at various levels in both national and international competitions, such as the World and Asian Championships. During the past Khelo India Games, Muskan Rana and Bavleen Kaur have won the best gymnasts of India titles in 2021 and 2022, along with winning medals for J&K.
This year again Muskan Rana alongwith Manya, Vabhavi Sharma and Jagriti Thakur won the Team Championships in the recently held Junior National Championships held at Bangaluru besides senior team winning the silver medal for the UT.
Within a brief span of three years, 13 gymnasts have competed at international competitions and won 80 medals including 25 gold, 34 silver, and 21 bronze at various National Games and Championships.
This academy has witnessed a golden age of sports in J&K and has become the greatest gymnastics academy of the country under the dynamic leadership of Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, who is also President J&K Sports Council. The unending support and assistance being provided by the J&K government in terms of infrastructure, equipment and training programs is undoubtedly paying off.
JAMMU, JANUARY 14: Sh Sayed Shah Aziz, Captain, Indian Divyang Cricket Team, hailing from Poonch called on Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan, today. He was accompanied by Ms Ghazal Khan, CEO, Divyang Cricket Control Board of India.
The Lt Governor congratulated Sh Sayed Aziz for his remarkable achievements at the National and International sports arena. He also released a promotional video for the upcoming India Vs Sri Lanka International Wheelchair Cricket Series scheduled to be held in Jammu in the month of February this year.
JAMMU, NOVEMBER 28: The Lieutenant Governor, Shri Manoj Sinha hosted a ‘High Tea’ for the renowned International players participating in Legends League Cricket matches, at the Raj Bhawan.
While interacting with the Cricketers, the Lt Governor said the entire Union Territory of Jammu Kashmir is proud and excited about the matches being held at MA Stadium. He said: “This is the first major international Cricket event for the UT after several decades and a beginning of new sporting era for Jammu Kashmir.
These matches featuring International Cricket stars will not only help us to achieve excellence in organising international sporting events but also popularize a robust sports culture in the masses, especially among the youth”.
The Lt Governor said over the next three days, Jammu Kashmir will celebrate and honour sporting excellence, dedication and commitment of the cricketers in the playing field and players will get an opportunity to enjoy UT’s hospitality, and incredible culture of J&K during their stay.
The Lt Governor said: “This tournament is also an occasion to uphold the values of Cricket game, which seeks to promote peace, excellence, respect, friendship and unity. In every respect, Jammu Kashmir echoes and reinforces these ideals and developing a thriving sporting culture.
