Inter-Zonal Volleyball & Kho Kho competition for Under 14 &17 Girls concludes at B’la

BARAMULLA, SEPTEMBER 02: The thrilling two-day competition of Inter-Zonal Volleyball and Kho Kho for under 14 and 17 Girls came to a spectacular conclusion today at Baramulla.

The event, organized by the District Youth Services & Sports Office Baramulla, witnessed the active participation of 18 educational zones, with a total of 72 teams competing.

The competition was officially inaugurated by the DYSSO Baramulla Jatinder Singh on September 01, setting the stage for an action-packed sporting event.

In the Volleyball Under 14 category, the final match saw an intense battle between Zone Sopore and Zone Wagoora, with Zone Sopore emerging as the victorious team. Meanwhile, in the Kho Kho Under 14 category, Zone Dangerpora faced-off against Zone Wagoora, and Zone Wagoora secured the championship title.

The excitement continued in the Kho Kho Under 17 category, with the final match between Zone Sopore and Zone Dangiwacha, ultimately won by Zone Sopore. In the Volleyball Under 17 category, Zone Dangerpora clashed with Zone Sopore, and Zone Dangerpora emerged triumphant.

The winners and runners-up teams were honored with trophies and certificates presented by the Zonal Physical Education Officers (ZPEOs) of the Department, marking the successful conclusion of this highly competitive event.

The DYSSO Baramulla extended his appreciation to all the participants, teams, and officials for making this competition a memorable and successful sporting extravaganza.

Lt Governor attends the final match of Kashmir Women Cricket League in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 27: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today attended the final match of Kashmir Women Cricket League in Srinagar.

12 women cricket teams hailing from various parts of the Kashmir Division participated in the tournament organized under the aegis of Chinar Corps. International Cricketer and Former Captain of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team, Padma Shri Mithali Raj also graced the occasion.

In his address, the Lt Governor congratulated all the participants and the winners of the Women Cricket League.

He appreciated the initiative of Chinar Corps which aims to uplift the spirit of women and empower them through sports so they can achieve sporting excellence and popularize a robust sports culture among girls in far-flung areas.

“The daughters of J&K are shining in different sectors despite many obstacles and challenges. They are breaking the glass ceilings and advancing their position in agriculture, industries, IT and startups.Even in the sports arena, they have proved to be second to none,” the Lt Governor said.

The Lt Governor highlighted the key endeavours of the government to provide handholding and support to the women in the Union Territory in diverse fields.

Women-led development is our top priority. Our socio-economic development policy is based on the idea of gender equality and necessary steps have been taken for empowerment of women and to provide them equal opportunity in every sector, he said.

Acknowledging the role of women in nation building, the Lt Governor said the way the women scientists have taken the lead in the Chandrayaan-3 mission has set an example for others to follow.

The Lt Governor reiterated the commitment of the UT Administration to provide world class sports infrastructure and mentoring to nurture the young sporting talents of Jammu Kashmir.

He said the recent successes of women players at the national and international events have kindled hopes. We have accorded due importance to sports and now we are witnessing a new sports culture in UT, adequate infrastructure and our resolve is to make J&K sporting power, he added.

There is no dearth of talent in J&K. The presence of International Cricketer Mithali Raj will serve as motivation for players. I am looking forward to the day when media channel headlines will say-The Girl from Anantnag, who is India’s new Mithali Raj. I firmly believe it is possible, the Lt Governor said.

The final was played between Anantnag Rebels and the Budgam Strikers.

The Lt Governor handed over trophies and cash prizes to the winning, and other top performing teams and the players who excelled in the tournament.

Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, GOC 15 Corps; Brig Anil Gupta, Member Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association, Eminent sports personalities, Senior Civil, Police and Army officers, Sports lovers and youth in large numbers were present.

National Sports Week celebrations kicks-off at Baramulla

BARAMULLA, AUGUST 21: The Department of Youth Services & Sports, District Baramulla has announced the commencement of the National Sports Week celebrations from August 21 to August 29 with an aim to honor the birth anniversary of the renowned hockey legend, Major Dhyan Chand.

To kick-off the celebrations, the Department organized a series of exciting sports activities across various zones. The opening day witnessed an enthusiastic participation of students from both private and government schools. The event showcased a vibrant display of athletic prowess and sportsmanship.

Zone Dangiwacha conducted an engaging trio of sports competitions, including Badminton, 100m sprint, and the Lemon race. A remarkable total of 260 students enthusiastically took part, competing fiercely while embodying the spirit of healthy competition and teamwork.

Zone Nehalpora witnessed an equally fervent response, where 200 students participated in the Badminton, 100m sprint, and Lemon race competitions. The determination and enthusiasm shown by the students underscored the importance of fostering a love for sports among the youth.

In Zone Sopore, 50 students from different schools came together to take part in the Badminton, 100m sprint, and Lemon race events. The vibrant energy and dedication displayed by these young athletes were truly commendable.

The National Sports Week’s calendar promises an exciting lineup of sports events, fostering a sense of camaraderie and promoting a healthy lifestyle among the youth. This initiative aligns with the vision of encouraging sports excellence and instilling essential values of discipline and perseverance.

West Bengal Sonarpur Aarohi Club achieves historic Summit of Mt Brammah 1 in Kishtwar; Discover exciting new route

KISHTWAR, JULY 20: The West Bengal Sonarpur Aarohi Club, comprising a team of skilled and eminent mountaineers, has successfully conquered Mt Brammah 1. The challenging peak, known for its technical difficulty, has been a long-standing aspiration among the mountaineering community since it was first climbed by British mountaineer Chris Bonnington about 50 years ago.
This remarkable achievement marks the first Indian team to conquer the summit, making history in the world of mountaineering.
After meticulous planning, the expedition took off on July 16, 2023 with the cooperation of the district Administration Kishtwar and different government and military bodies. However, adverse weather conditions, including whiteout and heavy snowfall, forced the team to abandon their initial summit attempt.
During this unfortunate incident, a Sherpa member fell approximately 70 meters but, fortunately, survived with bruises, cuts, shock, and snow blindness while searching for the summit route. The team made a courageous decision to wait for his recovery and launch another attempt within 30 hours.
On the midnight of July 17, the team set out once again, and at approximately 10:30 am on July 18, they achieved their goal, successfully summiting Mt Brammah 1. The team recorded the height as 6426 meters, which differed slightly from the topo map’s mentioned elevation of 6416 meters, based on four devices’ readings.
A total of nine climbing members and five Sherpas accomplished the momentous summit, while three members coordinated the activities from the base camp.
Upon safely returning to the Base Camp on July 19 at 8:30 pm, the team expressed their gratitude to the district Administration Kishtwar for its support, both direct and indirect, throughout the expedition.
Besides, it also thanked Indian Army 17RR, Police, Forest Department, KDA and the local team, consisting of Ravinder Singh Thakur, Bhanu Badyal, Rajesh Thakur and Avleen Bhutiyal including 2 local Youth from Kishtwar who recently completed the Adventure Training Course at the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports, Pahalgam.
DC Kishtwar, Dr. Devansh Yadav congratulated the team for this remarkable accomplishment and expressed enthusiasm about boosting the tourist potential and tourism in Kishtwar. He believes that this achievement will open up new avenues for future adventure tourism in the Kishtwar Himalayas.

Police Inaugurates Cricket Tournament in Shopian; Women’s volleyball Tournament concluded

SHOPIAN: In a remarkable initiative to promote sports and community engagement, Police under the auspices of the Civic Action Programme inaugurated the Cricket Tournament, concluded the Women’s Volleyball tournament and organised the Martial Art Competition in Shopian.

The opening ceremony of the Cricket Tournament and other sports/Martial Art competition was held at Batpora Stadium where teams from various localities and villages gathered to showcase their skills and compete for the coveted trophy. The events witnessed the presence of distinguished guests, school Childrens, community leaders and enthusiastic spectators, who came together to support the participating athletes.

During the inaugural ceremony, the senior police officers highlighted the significance of sports in promoting physical fitness, mental well-being and overall personality development. They underscored the role of sports in empowering youth/women, instilling discipline and nurturing leadership qualities.

While speaking on the occasion, SSP Shopian Ms Tanushree-IPS stressed upon the young & budding players of the district to allow their minds to explore their own thoughts and imagination through the medium of sports. The inaugural match was played between Friends cricket Club Safanagri Vs Sheen Sports Chotigam which was won by Friends Cricket Club by 20 runs.

Moreover, the Final of Women’s Volleyball was played between Shahi Hamdan school vs Khelo India Centre Shopian which was won by Khelo India Centre by 6:1 points. The event was attended by all senior police officers of the district. At the end, presents/mementos were distributed among the winning and participating teams/players by SSP Shopian in presence of ASP Shopian, Dysp Hqrs Shopian and DySP DAR Shopian.

It is pertinent to mention here that Police is organising different sports events, like volleyball tournament, football tournament, cultural programmes and other co-curricular activities in district Shopian for upliftment of sports among the youth.

Outsiders/ locals asked to use Amar Singh College playground after official hours

Local residents, clubs & other organizations wishing to use college playground asked to seek proper permission: College Authorities

SRINAGAR, JUNE 26: Amar Singh College is a premier multi-disciplinary institution of the valley having around 5000 boys and girls on its rolls in different disciplines and on a day there is a huge foot fall of students in the college. The students have to play in the college play ground as per college sports calendar.

It has been observed that outsiders enter the college sports ground during official hours from the backside of the college which hinders our college boys and girls sports activities.

Accordingly, public in general and residents in the vicinity of Amar Singh College in particular are informed through this notice that college play ground is meant primarily for bonafide students of Amar Singh College and as such no outsider will be allowed to use the playground during official time 09:00 AM to 05: 00 PM.

However, the residents in the vicinity, clubs and other organizations who want to play in the college playground beyond college hours and holidays can seek proper permission from college authorities.

PATTAN: Molvi Imran Raza Ansari kicked off the late Molvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari (RA) Memorial T20 Cricket Tournament at Pattan in district Baramulla here on Saturday.
This is the second edition of this tournament, which is being held in the name of the late Movli Iftikhar Hussain Ansari (RA). This tournament is fully sponsored by Ex-MLA Pattan Molvi Imran Raza Ansari.

The inaugural match of the T20 Cricket Tournament was played between PCC Pattan and MM Motors Lawypora Srinagar.

While talking with Valley Observer “Ex-MLA Pattan briefed about the motive of this tournament, Ansari mentioned that I am sponsoring this tournament in the name of my late father who always used to say that we should keep our youth away from drugs and other unlawful activities so I carried out his mission and I have kicked off this tournament just to make sure our youth will stay healthy physically as well as mentally”.

“The main motive behind this is to keep our future generation away from drugs and other harmful activities, our future generation is our asset so we need to keep them healthy and motivated”, Ansari added

“My dream is to see our youth excel in the field of sports activities and mark their names on the top note, earlier we seen many icons like Abdul Samad, Parvaiz Rasool and other players who have marked their presence in international as well as in national tournaments. Our youth have a lot of potential to show their talent all they need is a platform”, Ansari said.

Inter-district Football Championship concludes at Baramulla

BARAMULLA, JUNE 24: The inter-district provincial level Sabroto Mukherji football championship organized by the Youth Services & Sports department for under 14 boys concluded today at Baramulla.

District Youth Service & Sports Officer, Jatinder Singh was the chief guest at the event.

The championship that commenced from June 20 was aimed to promote the game of football at grass-roots level and provide a platform for young players to showcase their skills. The tournament witnessed overwhelming participation from all districts of Kashmir province, with teams competing fiercely for the prestigious title.

The tournament witnessed an electrifying opening ceremony that set the stage for an intense battle on the field. The matches were held at the Showkat Ali Stadium GDC ground Baramulla.

The final match of the championship was held today at Showkat Ali stadium, with the teams representing Baramulla and Anantnag locking horns in a thrilling encounter. Both sides displayed remarkable talent and fought tooth and nail for the coveted trophy.

In the contested battle, Baramulla emerged victorious defeating Anantnag by a margin of 04:01.

The closing ceremony was held after the final match, where the winning team was awarded the championship trophy amidst thunderous applause.

Speaking at the event, the chief guest applauded the efforts of the officials of the department and highlighted the importance of such tournaments in nurturing young talent.

Huge crowd of football lovers, officials, were present to witness the grand finale and celebrate the exceptional talent displayed by the young athletes.

SRINAGAR, JUNE 19: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today felicitated the winners of ‘Jashn-e-Dal’, a Water Sports event organized by Jammu Kashmir Police, at Srinagar.

700 participants competed in 20 categories of Kayaking, Canoeing and Slalom discipline during the three-day long event.

Addressing the participants and the organizers, the Lt Governor commended the J&K Police for its valuable contribution in nurturing young sporting talents and providing them opportunity through Civic Action Programmes to realise their full creative potential.

“It is a dream of every athlete to get an opportunity to participate in sporting event, excel in their respective area and become role model for the upcoming generation. The ongoing sports activities give us hope and confidence that our players can produce path-breaking achievements,” said the Lt Governor.

The vibrant sports culture reflects the image of aspirational J&K, which is determined to build a better future for the young generation. Our athletes will play a significant role in this task and contribute in building a strong and prosperous Jammu Kashmir, he added.

The Lt Governor reiterated the commitment of the UT Administration to provide world class facilities, coaching and mentoring to the young sporting talents of Jammu Kashmir.

“We are building new sporting future of J&K. It is our collective responsibility to empower our sportspersons, help the hidden talents in the villages so that they can script shining successes in international sporting events,” said the Lt Governor.

The Lt Governor made a special mention of sports personalities from J&K for bringing laurels to the nation at the world stage. He also appreciated the efforts of the sports associations and stakeholder departments for the promotion of sports in the UT.

The Lt Governor also called upon the people, especially the youth to discharge their duties and to contribute in Swachhta Abhiyan.

At the closing ceremony, the Lt Governor took the ceremonial salute at an impressive pedal pass and interacted with the players.

GCoE (IASE) M A Road organizes Annual College road race Men/ Women-2023

SRINAGAR, JUNE 08: The Department of Physical Education, Government College of Education (IASE) M.A Road Srinagar organized Annual College Road Race for Men and Women.

For men, the race started from Nehru Park to Nishat Gate at 06:30 a.m. and for women’s section the race started from SKICC to Nishat Gate at 06:45 a.m. A total number of 75 students both men and women, participated in the race.

The races were flagged-off by Dr. Nazir Ahmad Bhat along with Prof. Aijaz Ahmad Dar, Prof. Gousia Nissar, and Fazal illahi, Arshid Saulleh, Daljeet Kour and Dr. Bilal Ahmad Malla.

Mohammad Ayoub former Physical Director and former HOD Department of English Prof. Grmeet Kour were also present on this occasion.

On this occasion Principal of the college Prof.(Dr) Seema Naz encouraged the participants and also highlighted the importance of sports activities and active involvement in the sports to bring out the natural talent.

At the end, the Principal of the college along with other faculty members distributed trophies and medals among the position holders.

Position holders in the Men’s section include Gowher Mushtaq 1st; Hashim Nabi 2nd; Mohammad Aslam 3rd and Ab. Hamid Ganie 4th.
