Inter-district Football Championship concludes at Baramulla

BARAMULLA, JUNE 24: The inter-district provincial level Sabroto Mukherji football championship organized by the Youth Services & Sports department for under 14 boys concluded today at Baramulla.

District Youth Service & Sports Officer, Jatinder Singh was the chief guest at the event.

The championship that commenced from June 20 was aimed to promote the game of football at grass-roots level and provide a platform for young players to showcase their skills. The tournament witnessed overwhelming participation from all districts of Kashmir province, with teams competing fiercely for the prestigious title.

The tournament witnessed an electrifying opening ceremony that set the stage for an intense battle on the field. The matches were held at the Showkat Ali Stadium GDC ground Baramulla.

The final match of the championship was held today at Showkat Ali stadium, with the teams representing Baramulla and Anantnag locking horns in a thrilling encounter. Both sides displayed remarkable talent and fought tooth and nail for the coveted trophy.

In the contested battle, Baramulla emerged victorious defeating Anantnag by a margin of 04:01.

The closing ceremony was held after the final match, where the winning team was awarded the championship trophy amidst thunderous applause.

Speaking at the event, the chief guest applauded the efforts of the officials of the department and highlighted the importance of such tournaments in nurturing young talent.

Huge crowd of football lovers, officials, were present to witness the grand finale and celebrate the exceptional talent displayed by the young athletes.

SRINAGAR, JUNE 19: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today felicitated the winners of ‘Jashn-e-Dal’, a Water Sports event organized by Jammu Kashmir Police, at Srinagar.

700 participants competed in 20 categories of Kayaking, Canoeing and Slalom discipline during the three-day long event.

Addressing the participants and the organizers, the Lt Governor commended the J&K Police for its valuable contribution in nurturing young sporting talents and providing them opportunity through Civic Action Programmes to realise their full creative potential.

“It is a dream of every athlete to get an opportunity to participate in sporting event, excel in their respective area and become role model for the upcoming generation. The ongoing sports activities give us hope and confidence that our players can produce path-breaking achievements,” said the Lt Governor.

The vibrant sports culture reflects the image of aspirational J&K, which is determined to build a better future for the young generation. Our athletes will play a significant role in this task and contribute in building a strong and prosperous Jammu Kashmir, he added.

The Lt Governor reiterated the commitment of the UT Administration to provide world class facilities, coaching and mentoring to the young sporting talents of Jammu Kashmir.

“We are building new sporting future of J&K. It is our collective responsibility to empower our sportspersons, help the hidden talents in the villages so that they can script shining successes in international sporting events,” said the Lt Governor.

The Lt Governor made a special mention of sports personalities from J&K for bringing laurels to the nation at the world stage. He also appreciated the efforts of the sports associations and stakeholder departments for the promotion of sports in the UT.

The Lt Governor also called upon the people, especially the youth to discharge their duties and to contribute in Swachhta Abhiyan.

At the closing ceremony, the Lt Governor took the ceremonial salute at an impressive pedal pass and interacted with the players.

GCoE (IASE) M A Road organizes Annual College road race Men/ Women-2023

SRINAGAR, JUNE 08: The Department of Physical Education, Government College of Education (IASE) M.A Road Srinagar organized Annual College Road Race for Men and Women.

For men, the race started from Nehru Park to Nishat Gate at 06:30 a.m. and for women’s section the race started from SKICC to Nishat Gate at 06:45 a.m. A total number of 75 students both men and women, participated in the race.

The races were flagged-off by Dr. Nazir Ahmad Bhat along with Prof. Aijaz Ahmad Dar, Prof. Gousia Nissar, and Fazal illahi, Arshid Saulleh, Daljeet Kour and Dr. Bilal Ahmad Malla.

Mohammad Ayoub former Physical Director and former HOD Department of English Prof. Grmeet Kour were also present on this occasion.

On this occasion Principal of the college Prof.(Dr) Seema Naz encouraged the participants and also highlighted the importance of sports activities and active involvement in the sports to bring out the natural talent.

At the end, the Principal of the college along with other faculty members distributed trophies and medals among the position holders.

Position holders in the Men’s section include Gowher Mushtaq 1st; Hashim Nabi 2nd; Mohammad Aslam 3rd and Ab. Hamid Ganie 4th.

5th Faizal Abbas Memorial Volley ball tournament concludes

JAMMU, MAY 30: The 5th Faizal Abbas Memorial Volley ball Tournament, which commenced on 22nd May, 2023 at Government Polytechnic College, Jammu concluded here today.

Principal Secretary, Skill Development Department, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon was the chief guest on the concluding ceremony while Director Skill Development Department, Sudershan Kumar, was the guest of honour.

Principal, Government Polytechnic College, Engineer Arun Bangotra highlighted that the volleyball tournament is being organized since 2016 in memory of one of the finest volleyball players of the college Late Faizal Abbas Ashoor. He also highlighted other activities being undertaken by the Sports wing during the current session.

The summit clash for the title of 5thFaizal Abbas Memorial Volleyball tournament was held between Automobile Engineering and Electrical Engineering in which Electrical Department knocked down Automobile Engineering 2-1 (25,13), 25-17, 25-19 and lifted the trophy.

Earlier, Automobile Engineering won against Mechanical Engineering by 2-0 (25-12, 25-17) in the first 1st and in the 2nd semifinal Electrical Engineering were victorious over Computer Engineering by 2-1 (25-18, 25-19, 25-20).

Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon appreciated the efforts of Government Polytechnic Jammu for organizing such sports events in the college campus which will inculcate good habits among the students for a brighter future.

The tournament was organized under the overall supervision of Amit Kumar Sharma, Lecturer, Travel and Tourism and Sports Secretary, Chamel Singh, Physical Education Master, Toshi Devi, PET of Sports Department.

CUK holds cycle race competition

Ganderbal, May 30: Under the theme “Our Planet: Our Environment and Our campus”, Mass Mobilization On Mission LiFE”, Departments of Management Studies and Politics and Governance in collaboration with the Directorate of Student’s Welfare (DSW) organized a cycle-race for the students here Tuesday morning.

Dean School of Business Studies, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nikka, flagged off the race from Green Campus to Tulmulla Campus. As many as 20 students participated in the event. Mubashir Riyaz from the Department of Physics bagged the top slot and Sameer Makhdoomi from the department of IT bagged the second position. Akhilesh from the department of Education won the third spot.

Speaking on the occasion, Dean School of Business Studies, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nikka, congratulated the winners on achieving the feat and hailed all the students for participating in the competition. He said, “Cycling has huge health benefits and the daily routine improves mobility, coordination, heart health, and reduces weight.” He said that regular cycling can lessen mental health disorders, including depression, tension, and anxiety and the individuals can learn attentiveness and mindfulness by keeping their eyes on the road.

Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nikka said, the objective of organizing the event was to promote eco friendly transport system. “Emission of greenhouse gases from the automobiles have wreaked havoc with the environment and the need of the hour is increase the use of cycles for daily commuting,” he added

Dy DSW, Dr. Asif Khan, Asst Professors, Dr. Mir Insha, Dr Khalid Waseem and NSS Programme Officer, Dr. Mohammad Muzammil Shah, other functionaries of the university were also present on the occasion.

First-ever Sitting Volleyball match held at KU

Srinagar, May 29: The first-ever sitting volleyball match was organised by the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports (DPES), University of Kashmir, at the main campus on Monday.

Para-players from different parts of Kashmir participated in the match, which was held on directions of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Nilofer Khan, who has instructed for organising various sports activities for specially-abled persons on a regular basis.

The Directorate is mulling organising several inter-college para events, alongside regular inter-college sports activities, to provide equal opportunities to specially-abled students to showcase their talent.

In a three-set match, team Green defeated team Red by 2 sets to 1. The scores were: 23-25, 25-21 and 26-24.

Director DPES, Dr Mussavir Ahmed, distributed the prizes among the players and said the University has lined up various sports events for specially-abled players in its schedule of sports activities.

Such events will be a regular feature across the University’s campuses, he said.

The para-players expressed their gratitude to the organisers, especially Vice-Chancellor, for providing them a platform and requested the VC to organise more such events in future.

Sports has power to bind all: Secretary Sports Council

SRINAGAR, MAY 18: The sports fields in J&K remained abuzz with activities both organized by J&K Sports Council and local clubs with a greater number of players adding to the aggregate of participants.
The number of activities held under My Youth My Pride module at Polo Ground Srinagar, today. The activities included Pencak Silat, Judo, Taekwondo, Kabaddi, and Rugby. The Sports Officer of Kashmir, Nuzhat Farooq presided over the function as the chief guest.
The event kicked off with a nail-biting Kabaddi match between J&K Police and ACME Sports Academy which the former won by a score of 23:19. In the Handball match played between J&K Police and Al-Murad Baramulla, J&K Police triumphed with the scoreboard reading 31:25 in their favour. Khelo India Girls Team and got better of Hoopstar Club by a narrow margin of 15:13 points in the Basketball clash. In another encounter in the same discipline which went down to the wire, the Khelo India Center Boys emerged as the winner over their opponents MET Warriors by a score of 53-:8.
Even as My Youth My Pride activities continue to attract huge crowd, the players equally receive due praise and support for their respective performances. Pertinently this module of activities is organized to promote sports in J&K and encourage youth to take part in sports activities.
Meanwhile, District Anantnag Rugby Championship-2023 was held at Delhi Public School, Anantnag in which more than 200 participants of different age groups from different areas of district Anantnag participated.
Apart from the regular coaching and training classes, various sports activities are taking place under floodlights to further the scope of sports in J&K. The events held during the night especially see a huge participation from the athletes. The activities of Football, Handball, Basketball and Lawn Tennis are adding vibrancy to the ambience and making venues the happening places.
Speaking on the sidelines of the events, Secretary Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull said that sports is emerging as the prime choice for the recreation of youth. The visuals from district Shopian in South Kashmir the other day where participants swelled in large numbers in the district stadium under Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign makes one realize the power of sports which binds all, she added.
The Volleyball Association of J&K during a Volleyball event in M.A Stadium Jammu today organized volleyball-exhibition matches for boys and girls. During the concluding ceremony Sports officer Jammu, Ashok Singh presided over the function and distributed prizes among the participating clubs. While speaking on the occasion he stressed upon the need to get involved in the sports activities for fitness and wellbeing.
Meanwhile, early in the morning a meeting convened by Ashok Singh Sports Officer pertaining to smooth functioning of Khelo India State Centre of Excellence in Fencing was held in the meeting hall of MA Stadium Jammu. The selected athletes along with their parents, and KISCE staff was part of the meeting during which performance of each player was analyzed besides providing a weekly training schedule and stressing upon the punctuality for higher performance.
The participants were apprised about the guidelines of the programme besides discussion on hostel facilities and school admissions.
Pertinently the KISCE is an inhouse training facility where all the expenses of boarding and lodging of selected candidates including education is borne by the government.

Night sports activities return in Kashmir as Sports Council organises multiple events

SRINAGAR, MAY 17: The sports activities under different verticals were held in various playfields and indoor sports complexes in J&K.

A Badminton event was held in Sheri Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex, Srinagar under My Youth My Pride in which more than 40 players including both boys and girls participated. The girls single’s title was bagged by Sadia Khaki while Faiza ended up as the runner up and in boys category Shahnawaz won the title while Hadi settled for runner up title.

Meanwhile, Night Football activities resumed in Bakshi Stadium. The special activities in this segment are aimed at providing extend time to the players to hone their skills, said Dr Zaffar Iqbal CAO Sorts Council. Adding that Sports Council under the special activities segments besides mass awareness about the ill effects of drugs is also acquainting the public with the G-20 summit being hosted in J&K.

Late in the evening today, various sports activities and competitions were underway in Gindun Sports Complex in the disciplines of Basket Ball in which Khelo India Girls and Boys team was pitted against Hoopstar Girls Club and Warriors Boys Club respectively while in Kabaddi Academy was playing against Police Kabbadi Teams. In other events of Football and Handball.

Syed Tajdeen was playing against J&K Bank and Al-Murad Handball club was competing with J&K Police hand ball teams. All the matches were in progress under flood lights when the report was being filed.

An athletic and cycling event for school kids under fourteen years of age was also held in Bakshi Stadium today in which more that hundred school kids participated. The kids were thrilled to be part of the event.

In her message to youth, Secretary Sports Council Nuzhat Gull rheteriorated that she along with her team is always there to support players who are aspiring to make it big in the sports. She said that our sports academies in both the divisions are doing a commendable job when it comes to training the young turks tricks of their respective sports and that all the programmes including feedback mechanisms shall be made online soon.

Nuzhat Gull said that automation of Sports Council is under process and all the information relating to games, scrutiny of certificates etc shall be made online for the ease of players and public.

Referring to the Sports Club, she appealed youth to avail the facility which houses Billiards, Chess Carrom, Table Tennis besides a Library with functional canteen which offers food on subsidised rates.

Meanwhile Sports Officer Kashmir Nuzhat Farooq refuted the claims made in a video after the conclusion of a cricket match in Bakshi Stadium. She said that the video has been edited to suit the claims of vested interests and is far from the truth.

The Sports Officer Kashmir requested the general public to report any incident that falls within her domain and assured of a timely redressal.

Two Matches played under Inter-College Cricket Tournament at SP College Ground

SRINAGAR, MAY 17: Two matches were played today in connection with the ongoing inter college cricket tournament organised by the Department of Physical Education at S.P college main ground.

The first match was played between the Department of Zoology and Chemistry and was comprehensively won by Zoology Department by 7 wickets.

The second match of the tournament was played between the Department of Botany and Evs and was won by Botany Department by 4 wickets.

Principal, S.P college, Prof (Dr ) Gh Jeelani Qurashi, along with sports board members Dr. Khurshid Ahmad Parray, Dr Showkat Ahmad Wani, Dr Javid Ahmad, Dr Syed Rashid, Owais Wani, Arshad Salam, Mohammad Hafiz Khan, Arshid Iqbal and Imran Hamdani interacted with all the teams and assured them the best possible infrastructure with a view to organise high end competition in the college.

Principal S.P College inaugurates Intra College T20 Men’s Cricket Tournament at College main ground

SRINAGAR, MAY 16: Principal S.P. College, Prof. (Dr) Ghulam Jeelani Qurashi today inaugurated Intra College T20 Men’s Cricket tournament at S.P College main ground, here.

The tournament is being organised by the Department of Physical Education. The first match of the tournament was played between Students of Physics Department and Students of Information Technology

The Principal, who was also Chief Guest at the inaugural function, said that this will provide an opportunity for the sportspersons from all the Departments of the college to showcase their talent and compete with the best of the lot.

He said that it is high time that we garner the talent of our youth and build sportsmanship characters in them.

Speaking on the occasion Secretary, Sports, Cluster University Srinagar Dr. Khursheed Parray, who was also Guest of the Honour for the event said that the college is committed to providing National level sports infrastructure with a view to organise high end competition in the college to harness the potential of budding sportspersons.
