SRINAGAR, JULY 31: Professor Dr. Seema Naz assumed charge as Nodal Principal of Colleges Kashmir Division here on Tuesday.
As per the order issued by Principal Secretary Higher Education Department (HED) Alok Kumar which reads as, “in the interest of administration, it is hereby ordered that the Principal, Government College of Education, Srinagar shall work as the Nodal Principal of College Kashmir Division, in addition to her own duties reliving Professor Dr. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Director College, J&K of the charge of Nodal Principal, Kashmir Division, with immediate effect”.
On the occasion all the faculty member of the Govt College of Education headed by Professor Dr. Nazir Ahamd Bhat Senior faculty member of the college congratulated Professor Dr. Seem Naz for assuming the charge as a Nodal Principal for Kashmir Division Colleges.
Dr. Bhat, on behalf of all the faculty members, assured full support for the advancement of the higher education department and for the betterment of the student community.

SRINAGAR, JULY 09: Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir today assumed the charge of Director Colleges J&K. Prof. Bashir shall continue to hold the charge of Nodal Principal Kashmir Division Colleges and Principal Amar Singh College Srinagar in additional to his own duties.
After assuming charge, Prof. Bashir took a meeting with the officers and officials to assess the status of higher education sector in J&K. He remarked that the department is committed to fostering a conducive environment for learning and development, promoting innovation in teaching methodologies and enhancing the overall educational experience for students across colleges in Jammu and Kashmir.
He added that the department will strengthen academic programs, promote research culture and ensure the holistic growth of students
Having Ph.D in Electronics, Prof. Aijaz Bashir has been a prominent academician and administrator. He is also the member of prestigious Higher Education Council of J&K and has served Higher Education department for a period spanning more than thirty years.
Prof. Ajaz has also previously headed Islamia College Srinagar for a period of four years leading the autonomous college to unprecedented heights.

Srinagar, July 8: Principal Amar Singh College and Nodal Officer for Kashmir Division Colleges, Dr. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir has been appointed as Director College, Higher Education Department, J&K vide Order No: 366 -JK(HE) of 2024 Dated: 08- 07- 2024 issued by issued by Alok Kumar, the Principal Secretary of the Higher Education Department, J&K.
According to the government order, Dr. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Principal, Amar Singh College, Srinagar, is hereby transferred and posted as Director Colleges, J&K relieving Dr. Yasmeen Ashai, Dean, Academic Affairs, Cluster University of Srinagar, from the additional charge of the post of Director Colleges, J&K.
Dr. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir shall remain posted as Director Colleges, J&K for a period of two years, with immediate effect.
It is further ordered that Dr. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir shall continue to hold the post of Nodal Principal, Kashmir and Principal, Amar Singh College, Srinagar till the said posts are filled up by the Administrative Department.
Srinagar, Jun 25Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is proud to announce the launch of various new innovative programmes in ODL mode for July 2024 admission cycles which are aimed to enrich the educational opportunities available to the aspiring students across the country. These new initiatives underscore IGNOU’s commitment to fostering accessible and inclusive learning environments. SRINAGAR, JUNE 25: The Govt. College of Education (GCoE) M.A. Road Srinagar today hosted a two-day National Conference on the theme “NEP 2020: Innovative Pedagogical Approaches and Evaluation Reforms in Higher Education.
The conference was inaugurated by a renowned educationist and innovator, Prof. Dinesh Singh, Chairperson of JK Higher Education Council. Dignitaries from across the country participated in the conference, which, among others, included Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Kashmir; Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor Jammu University; Prof. Manisha Priyam from National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration, New Delhi; Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Ashai, Director of Colleges, J&K; Prof (Dr) Wilayat Rizvi, Registrar Cluster University; Prof (Dr) Syed Nazir Simnani , Principal GDC Bemina; Prof (Dr) Ghulam Jeelani Qurashi Principal SP College and other Faculty members deputed from various colleges and research scholars across J&K also attended the conference. The Chief Guest, Prof. Dinesh Singh, highlighted the real meaning of education in his address saying that true education is when you start hearing the inner drumbeat and march in tune with it. Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, Vice-Chancellor Central University of Kashmir, highlighted in his special address the fact that the UT of J&K is at the forefront of implementing NEP-2020. He deliberated on key areas of NEP-2020, such as learner-centric education, inclusiveness in education, holistic approaches in education, designing your degree, and the academic bank of credits.
Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor Jammu University, also spoke on the occasion, emphasizing that education must not be confined to the four walls of the classroom but must be connect with real life.
Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Ashai, Director of Colleges, JK Higher Education, and Patron of the conference, elucidated on the theme NEP-2020: Key Issues, such as Multidisciplinary Education, Designing Your Degree, Multiple Entry and Exit Options, Courses on Indian Knowledge, and ICT in Higher Education.
Prof. Manisha Priyam from NIEPA spoke on the theme of NEP-2020 operationalization from a national perspective. In her speech, she highlighted key areas of NEP-2020, such as pedagogical approaches and evaluation reforms, breaking disciplinary boundaries, comparing AI and the human mind, open book exams, and creating a knowledge society.
Earlier, the Principal of host college, Prof. Seema Naz welcomed the guests. She presented a brief profile of the institution and highlighted the achievements of the college. She brought to focus the accomplishments of the institution in teaching-learning, innovations, internships, and infrastructure upgradation.
The conference will culminate on June 26, 2024, wherein paper presenters across J&K will present their papers on various themes of the conference, such as integrating innovative pedagogical approaches in teaching and learning in higher education, multi-mode teaching in higher education, and assessment and evaluation in higher education.

Srinagar: IGNOU Srinagar is set to start various student friendly initiatives in Kashmir. This was stated by Dr. Afroz Hyder Rizvi during a press brief held at Regional Study Centre Srinagar.Giving details, Dr Rizvi said that Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has started the admission process for its various academic programs for July 2024 admission cycle from 15.05.2024. Presently Term End Examination June 2024 is going on across 35 examination centres established in Govt. Degree Colleges throughout the Kashmir Division including UT of Ladakh in almost 1,83,000 recorded sittings . On the demand of learners one more examination centre at GDC Gurez has been established for the students hailing that area.
The University has also launched a four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP) in alignment with NEP 2020. The university has also got approval from UGC & AICTE for four new MBA programmes; MBA Human Resource Management (MBAHRM), MBA Marketing Management (MBAMM), MBA Finance Management and MBA Operations Management (MBAOM). Besides, the university has already been running MBA in Banking and Finance, MBA (General) in Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode and MBA (General) in online mode. There is no need to appear in any entrance test to take admission in any of these seven different MBA programmes. Revised programme of Masters of Computer Applications (MCA) has also been launched with the approval from UGC & AICTE and will be now of two years duration. The eligibility for the programme has also been relaxed in terms of having Mathematics as one of the subjects at UG level and there is also no need to appear in any entrance test to take admission in this programme.
At present IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar is operating practically in every nook and corner of Kashmir through a network of 46 Learner Support Centres, comprising 33 Regular Study Centres (LSCs), 12 Programme Study Centres (PSCs) and 1 Special Study Centre (SSCs). The Regional Centre has established Learner Support Centres (LSCs) in all the districts of its jurisdiction and we are trying to reach the unreached by way of establishing LSCs at sub division and blocks levels. Many new proposals to extend IGNOUs reach to newer areas like IUST, SKUAST-K for Science and Agriculture based academic programmes of the university. Apart from this Regional Centre Srinagar is also an Nodal Regional Centre from which the online counselling is being done for the programmes i.e. Diploma in Urdu Language and BA in applied Urdu and Master of Arts in Urdu through for the students admitted in these programmes throughout the country. Also, Swayam Prabha Channels and Channel Based Counselling (CBC) is an initiative of the Ministry of Education, Government of India to provide 34 High Quality Educational TV Channels through DTH across the length and breadth of the country on a 24×7 basis using GSAT 15 Satellite. IGNOU has been entrusted with the responsibility of National Coordinator for Swayam Prabha Project for four channels (13) which are presently operational with effect from 1st Sept, 2020 after reorganization of earlier five channels. These four channels are broadcasting the recorded videos as well as live telecasting of IGNOU programmes 24×7. The channel-based counselling was initially operationalized at 20 Regional Centers using four channels of SWAYAM PRABHA for the CBCS courses in 13 languages. In 2022, a swayam Prabha studio was set up IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar and is now providing the channel based counselling in Urdu language for UG programmes on channel no. 13. Since its inception, 249 sessions have been delivered so far through the studio at Regional Centre Srinagar, said Dr. A.H. Rizvi.
e-VidyaBharti Project, under the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), GOI, offers Tele-education services through internet-based web portals. So far, 6 premier Indian HEIs, approved by UGC, are offering online degree/diploma/certificate programmes. The MoUs have been signed with 19 African Countries to participate in the project. Under this initiative, IGNOU is one of the HEIs identified for this project. Regional Centre Srinagar is also one of the Regional Centres of the IGNOU which is now part of this prestigious project of Government of India. The students from 19 African countries under this prestigious project have been allotted to Regional Centre Srinagar for the programmes of Certificate in Food and Nutrition (CFN) and Diploma in Early Child Care and Education (DECE).
Under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) we have adopted one village called Leharwalpora District Bandipora and we have organised several sensitization programmes under the cooperation with local administration for the upgradation of their livelihood. SATHEE, a collaborative initiative of IIT Kanpur with IGNOU for giving free learning and access platform to prepare them for competitive exams like JEE & NEET. IIT Kanpur has nominated the University for recreation of videos in 12 regional languages for SATHEE.
The Regional Centre Srinagar will be establishing a Help Desk for redressal of the grievances of the learners and other stakeholders under a single window system. The centre is also planning to create an Innovation Club for IGNOU learners for making them entrepreneurs’ and self-sufficient. The centre has also established a disability cell to extend facilities for specially abled learners.
IGNOU has launched several new academic programmes including, M.Sc. programmes from the July 2024 admission cycle. Some of the newly launched programs are M. Sc. Chemistry, M. Sc. Zoology, M. Sc. Applied Chemistry, M.Sc. Physics, M.Sc. Biochemistry, PG Diploma in Disaster Risk Reduction & Management (PGDDRRM), Diploma in Agriculture & Cost Management (DACM), Master of Arts in Applied Urdu (MAAUD), Certificate in Event Management (CEVMT) & Awareness-Cum-Training Package for Parents of Children with Disability-Visual Impairment (NCD-102).

College Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff of the college also attended the farewell meeting held at College Auditorium.
On the occasion, Principal of the College, Professor (Dr.) Ghulam Jeelani Qurashi congratulated them on the successful completion of their active services. He also highlighted their zeal and dedication towards their work.
Dr Qurashi said that it is with mixed emotions that the esteemed faculty and staff at SP College, Srinagar bid a warm and heartfelt farewell to Prof. Manzoor Wani from the Botany department, Prof. Niyaz Ahmad Wani also from the Botany department and Prof. Rabia Ahmad from the English department.
Dr. Qurashi said that these distinguished educators have made invaluable contributions to the academic community, inspiring generations of students with their knowledge and passion for teaching. Additionally, we also extend our heartfelt appreciation to Kounsar Kirmani, a dedicated Lab Assistant, for her hard work and commitment to excellence.
As these esteemed members of our academic family move on to new endeavors their presence and guidance will be sorely missed. Their legacy within the halls of SP College will endure as a testament to their dedication to shaping young minds and fostering a culture of learning and growth. I wish them all the best in their future endeavors and are confident that they will continue to excel in all their pursuits, he added.
“It is with a heavy heart that we bid farewell to Professor Manzoor Wani, a distinguished Head of the Department of Botany. Throughout his tenure, Prof. Wani has exemplified excellence in academics and dedication to his students. His passion for botanical studies and commitment to research has inspired countless individuals within the department,” Dr. Qurashi said.
He said, we gather here today also to bid farewell to our esteemed Professor Niyaz Ahmad Wani. Throughout his tenure at this institution, Professor Wani has been an exceptional mentor, educator, and colleague. His dedication to teaching, research and his students have left an indelible impact on our academic community.
Dr. Qurashi extended his warm regards and best wishes to Professor Rabia Ahmad, esteemed member of the Department of English. Serving as a dedicated educator, her passion for literature and language has left an indelible impact on the academic community. Professor Rabia’s unmatched expertise and commitment to her students have undoubtedly enriched countless minds through her teachings.
I would also like to formally acknowledge the departure of Kounsar Kirmani, our esteemed laboratory assistant. Kounsar has been an invaluable member of our team, contributing her expertise and dedication to the success of our research endeavors, Dr. Qurashi said.
The proceeding of the felicitation function was conducted by Dr. Shazia Mushtaq, Associate Professor Botany.
