SRINAGAR, JUNE 12: A total of 51 students from different programmes have been selected for a month-long internship programme fully sponsored by AICTE at the top rated IITs, NITs & IISER of the country.
The internship will commence from 15th June to 15th July .
Addressing the group of selected students who left for attending the said programme today, the Principal, Sri Pratap College Prof (Dr) Ghulam Jeelani Qureshi congratulated them for having bagged such a prestigious internship.
He enjoined upon them to make the most of the opportunity by emulating the work culture of the IITs and help the college reproduce a similar model at the college upon their return.
He assured the students that more such opportunities shall follow in future and the College shall continue to facilitate activities and programmes beneficial for its students.
SRINAGAR, JUNE 06: The World Environmental Week and Mission LiFE for Environment 2023 celebrations concluded with an impressive valedictory function held at Amar Singh College.
The function was presided over by Principal, Amar Singh College, Prof. (Dr) Sheikh Ajaz Bashir while as Prof. Bashir Ahmad Rather, Former Principal, Amar Singh College, graced the occasion as chief guest.
Prof. Ajaz in his laconic valedictory address impressed upon the need of eradication and immediate stoppage of single use plastic and other substances causing threat to the environment. He added that a pollution free environment is the basis of a healthy society.
He while highlighting the role of youth in environment conservation encouraged the youth particularly the student community for greater participation in the environmental awareness and abatement of hazardous substances, which ultimately result in the pollution of the environment.
Prof. Ajaz was all praise for the role and contribution of students during the weeklong celebrations and maintained that the student rally and distribution of biodegradable carry bags has left impressive footprints on the society. He further congratulated the entire organizing team for a successful programme.
World Environment Week-2023 celebrations conclude at Amar Singh College
Prof. Bashir, the chief guest on the occasion, spoke at length about the importance of a healthy environment and pointed out the threats to the environment. He maintained that immediate steps towards afforestation, green initiatives and use of biodegradable substances, check and balance on the air pollution causing industries and automobiles besides water pollutants and other environmental friendly steps can still play a significant role in the environmental conservation before we cease to exist.
During the weeklong celebrations kick-started on June Ist, many activities related to the programme were held which include student rallies, cleanliness drives, Inter-College and Inter-School Painting Competition, Exhibition, Nukad Natak and much more, all reflecting and depicting the importance of healthy environment.
A large number of student participants from different colleges and schools participated in the events and sent their message through their impressive presentations.
The weeklong programme was jointly organized by the Department of Environmental Sciences, Eco Club SHEHJAR and the NSS Wing of the college with the aim to aware the masses about the adverse effects of single use plastic, pollution causing industries and other means that transport the threat to the green planet.
The student participants were awarded with trophies and certificates on the valedictory function for their outstanding performance and proactive participation.
A large number of faculty members and students across different educational institutions attended the function.

SRINAGAR, JUNE 06: The celebration of World Environment Week on the theme ‘Solutions to Plastic Pollution’ being organized by PG Department of Environmental Science commenced at S.P. College, Srinagar.
Prof. (Dr.) Ghulam Jeelani Qurashi, Principal of SP College inaugurated the weeklong programme and highlighted the issues related to plastic pollution.
Addressing the student community, he called for a responsible role in spreading the awareness about effects of plastic pollution among the common masses.
The highlight of the day was the invited talk by Dr. Khalid Muzamil Gani, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Srinagar in which he addressed about the statistics of the generation of Plastic production, and its effects and gave an extensive research solution to the problem.
The programme Coordinator, Prof. Shahid Ahmad Wani spoke about the major plastic pollution problems that the globe is facing today and gave a detailed overview of possible solutions.
Dr. Gowhar Hamid Dar, organizing secretary of the programme highlighted this year’s theme on World Environment Day and gave a detailed perspective of global technological initiatives available to combat plastic Pollution menace. He gave a brief insight of the week-long programme scheduled to be carried out.
The event also included several interactive sessions, where students were encouraged to actively participate by presenting their meaningful thoughts, through oral presentations on the theme ‘solutions to plastic pollution.’ Efforts were made to encourage students to make small changes in their lives such as using eco-friendly products, reducing plastic waste, and conserving energy.
The presentations were evaluated by a panel of expert judges comprising Prof. Roohi Jan, Dr. Qazi Ashiq Hussain and Dr. Syed Javaid Ahmad Andrabi.
The day concluded with a pledge on “Lifestyle for Environment” which involved students and faculty administered by the Principal of the College under Mission Life.

SRINAGAR, JUNE 03: Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development, Sri Pratap College, Srinagar today organised a panel discussion of Kashmir based start-up entrepreneurs on the theme ‘Success Stories of Entrepreneurs’ in continuation to the National Technology Day celebrations today.
Prof. Mairaj-ud-din Sheikh, ex Head Department of Geography of the college was the chief guest on the occasion.
The chief guest in his presidential address explained the concept of entrepreneurship and how important it is to have new and innovative ideas for successful ventures.
The panel discussion was moderated by Dr. Shabana Aslam, convener CIED. Dr Shabana said the event has been organised to encourage young students to draw inspiration from the success stories of entrepreneurs and make them future-ready as job-creators rather than job-seekers. She also highlighted the achievements of CIED.
Principal of SP College Prof. (Dr.) Gh Jeelani Qurashi in his welcome address appreciated the entrepreneurs for their achievements and encouraged students to take up ventures for creation of jobs and economic assets. He also appreciated the CIED for organising the programme and urged them to continue with such extracurricular activities in future.

The panelists on the occasion were Sheikh Samiullah (one of the Founders Fastbeetle), Fayaz Ahmed Dar (Founder Sagg Eco Village), Dr. Javaid Ahmad Dar (Founder Khorasan Hi-Tech Food Processing Industry), Shahzada Akhter (Founder Chandani Desi Milk), Sana Imtiyaz (Founder Sweet Temptations) and Dr. Aasif Shah (Head Dept of Commerce, AAAM GDC Bemina).
The panelists shared their success stories talking about their inspirations and the hurdles they faced and how they overcame these hurdles to establish successful ventures.
Students in large numbers attended the panel discussion and enthusiastically participated in the question answer session.
Prof. Manzoor Ahmad Wani, Head Department of Botany and co-patron of the programme, in his concluding remarks summarised the panel discussion and explained to the audience the concept of business ecosystem and the keys for successful ventures.

Prof. Azimo emphasizes Japan’s reliance on India in his valediction address
SRINAGAR, MAY 29: The five-day 8th International Conference on Nanotechnology, themed ‘Nanotechnology for Better Living’, concluded on Monday with an impressive valedictory ceremony held at the Common Hall of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar. The valedictory ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Prof. Sudhakar Yedla, Director of NIT Srinagar, Prof. Venugopal Achanta, Director of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-National Physical Laboratory (CSIR-NPL), Prof. A M Wani, former and first Director of NIT Srinagar, and Prof. S K Bukhari, Registrar of NIT Srinagar. The audience comprised delegates from various parts of the country and abroad, among whom was Prof. Yashiro Azimo from Japan, a Physics professor at IIT Delhi and a frequent visitor to Kashmir’s Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora. During the valedictory ceremony, participants expressed their admiration for the conference, applauding the diligent efforts of NIT Srinagar in organizing such a remarkable event. SRINAGAR, MAY 27: Sri Pratap College and Department of Wildlife today jointly took a pledge for wildlife conservation and protection of the environment in a programme organized under the banner of India’s Presidency of G20.
The pledge was taken by the students of the college and the representative officials of the Department of Wildlife in recognition of the importance of preserving wildlife and their habitats to reflect the commitment of both organizations towards a sustainable future for our planet’s precious wildlife and ecosystems.
The pledge incorporated commitments to educate students, staff, and the general public about wildlife conservation, prevention of wildlife crime, conduct research and monitoring, and collaborate with other organizations and stakeholders to develop and implement effective conservation strategies based on scientific evidence.
The principal of the College Prof. (Dr) Gh Jeelani Qurashi presided over the event and assured the student gathering of taking such initiatives on priority in the future as well.
“We are proud to take this pledge for wildlife conservation and protection of the environment,” said the representative of the college. “We recognize the importance of preserving our wildlife and their habitats for the health and well-being of our planet and future generations. We are committed to working with the Department of Wildlife and other stakeholders to achieve this common goal”, he added.

SRINAGAR, MAY 25: Department of Chemistry, Sri Pratap college, today organized a One Day Seminar on the theme ‘Green Chemistry for Sustainable Development Goals’, here.
The seminar was the third in the series of lectures to commemorate National Technology Day under India’s G20 presidency.
The invited speaker, Dr. Imtiyaz Ahmad Wani, deliberated in detail about the importance of Green Chemistry in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with relevant examples. The talk was participatory in nature with frequent queries and explanations addressed aptly by the speaker.
The speaker also suggested methods to incorporate Green Chemistry at UG and PG levels.
Earlier, the head of the department, Prof. Saadat Hassan Kar in his introductory speech emphasized the importance of sustainable developmental goals vis-a-vis green chemistry.
This was followed by special remarks by the Principal Prof. (Dr) Gh Jeelani Qurashi wherein he laid stress on the use of green chemistry as a means of achieving sustainable development goals and highlighted the role of students as agents of change.
The programme included student participation sessions as well. Hamid Javed of IG 10th semester discussed the successful green synthesis methods used by him in his project versus the conventional methods.
This was followed by two practical demonstrations highlighting the benefits of green methods over conventional methods by Azra Manzoor of IG 6th semester and Syed Muneesa of IG 9th semester.
The proceedings of the event were conducted by Prof. Ruheena Tabasum and the event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Asif Iqbal Bhat.
Awantipora, May 25: IUST rolls out implementation of PMKVY 4.0 and inaugurated Kalam Academy of Skill Development and Training. On this occasion, Shri Alok Kumar IRS who was the chief guest congratulated the IUST for its efforts towards the implementation of the Skilling mission through Govt’s flagship programme. He said that the programme aims to bridge the skill gaps and guarantee the employability of the youth and contribute in the Country’s march towards progress and prosperity. He further said that nothing is more empowering than acquiring skills which opens up opportunities.
In his address, Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo expressed thanks to the government in lending support to IUST, in its initiatives. He said that in this age of innovation and entrepreneurship, where rapid technological advances create skill gaps, initiatives like PMKVY are significant. He outlined different measures being taken in the IUST at its Centre of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development, Design and Innovation Centre and cited the accomplishments made towards supporting the Start-Up ecosystem and inculcating Innovative spirit among the youth. He also talked about NEP 2020 implementation and said that at IUST emphasis is being laid on multidisciplinary leaning, inculcation of innovative spirit, introduction of vocational courses in different areas of contemporary relevance etc.
The Chief guest later took a tour of different facilities of the campus and appreciated the growth of the university. He visited CIED, departments of Food Sciences and Technology and Computer Science and engineering and inaugurated the Skill development programmes. He appreciated IUST on its achievements and congratulated the Vice chancellor and Director CIED for 3.5 Star ranking awarded by the Institution Innovation Council of Ministry of Educating, GoI, in recognition of the efforts towards promotion of Entrepreneurship, Innovation and start up culture. The Programme was coordinated by Dean Research Prof Ayaz Hassan Moon and attended by Dean Academic Affairs, Registrar, Finance Officer, Deans of Schools, and others.
SRINAGAR, MAY 19: To commemorate the National Technology Day in the backdrop of G20 Summit, lecture series was Friday kick-started by Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Ashai, Director Colleges in the auditorium of Sri Pratap College Srinagar here.
The first in the series was a one-day special talk on the theme “The Culture of Science and Higher Education in Japan: Historical Perspective, Current Issues and Some Comparison to India” delivered by Prof. Yoshiro Azuma.
Prof. Yoshiro Azuma, an eminent scientist and visiting Professor at IIT Delhi in the field of Experimental Atomic and Molecular Spectroscopy gave an inspiring talk about his work experiences as a scientist in Japan and USA.
He emphasized on the importance of collaborative research work as a key to success in scientific endeavors. His talk inspired the students seeking research as career options in STEM. Director Prof. (Dr) Yasmeen Ashai urged the students to eagerly participate in such workshops and seminars to hone up their skills and gather scientific acumen.
Earlier, Principal Prof. (Dr.) Gh Jeelani Qurashi in his welcome address encouraged and motivated the student community to make use of such workshops to acquire knowledge about various opportunities they can take up at national and international level.

Srinagar, May 18: Vice-Chancellor University of Kashmir Prof Nilofer Khan on Thursday took up the matter related to setting up of examination centres in Kashmir for the candidates of Common University Entrance Test (UG-CUET) with senior authorities in the J&K UT administration.
The Vice-Chancellor spoke to Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department, J&K Government, Shri Alok Kumar, and urged him to further take up the matter with the National Testing Agency (NTA) so that examination centres for the CUET (UG) are set up in Kashmir and the aspirants do not have to travel outside the Valley to sit in the said examination.
The Vice-Chancellor said that setting up examination centres at convenient locations in the Valley will ease the candidates, especially those coming from far-off places and underprivileged sections of society, and save their travel time which they can appropriately use to focus on their studies.
The Principal Secretary assured that the matter has already been taken up with the NTA.
The VC hoped for an early resolution of the matter in the larger interest of the candidates who are presently preparing for the examination.
