In a major fillip to MICE tourism, global Beauty Divas visit Kashmir

With a game changer G 20 event, J&K fast emerging as destination for hosting major global, corporate events; Tourism Deptt makes necessary arrangements for the visit

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 28: In a major fillip to MICE tourism and in a historic development for the tourism industry of J&K, a group of global Beauty Divas visited Kashmir today, as a prelude to the Miss World pageant 2023 with Tourism Department making all necessary arrangements for the visit.

The group includes Miss World, Karolina Bielawska; Miss World Caribbean, Emmy Pena; Miss World America, Shree Saini; Miss World India, Sini Shetty; Miss World England, Jessica Gagen; Miss Asia, Pricilia Carla Saputri Yules; Chairman and CEO of Miss World Organization, Julia Eric Morley and her team; Ms. Rouble Negi, founder Rouble Negi Art Foundation.

The visit of these Beauty Divas was curated by the Tourism Department in collaboration with Rouble Nagi Art Foundation.

The visit of these celebrities is expected to give a further push to MICE tourism in J&K which is already witnessing a very encouraging scenario after the successful holding of 3rd Working Group meeting of G 20 countries here in May this year. The G 20 event which has proved to be a game changer and a transformative event for the local tourism has led to an increased footfall of foreign travellors visiting the UT which has gone up several notches after the successful event. Several national and international corporate bodies and companies have planned their events in UT and many high profile dignitaries have visited the region in the meantime.

In such a scenario, this visit by renowned beauty queens of the world to Kashmir is going to draw the attention of global tourism market to what J&K is offering in terms of natural beauty, corporate events, wedding tourism, local craft and cuisine besides positioning J&K as a destination to hold major global and corporate events. This is expected to upscale the local tourism, craft and economy like never before.

This positive turn around in the tourism scenario has been achieved with a focused direction and attention from Prime Minister, Narendra Modi whose personalized leadership has led to such a transformative change in the tourism sector of the UT. Home Minister, Amit Shah and Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha have continuously been evaluating the progress of this positive change and guiding the Department in achieving the desired results.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman, PME, Jamil Saidi described Kashmir as the crowning jewel of India which has a special place for him. He said the majestic landscape and warm people here reminds him of unity in diversity. He thanked Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha and the Tourism Department for hosting them.

Replying to a question, Mr. Saidi said J&K is poised to host such major global beauty and corporate events for which he complimented the people concerned.

The visit of global Beauty Divas to Jammu & Kashmir promises to be a blend of elegance, artistry and cultural exchange. Embracing the ethos of art, culture, and international allure, the visit will not only showcase the region’s picturesque landscapes but also provide a global platform for local artists and artisans to interact.

During the visit, divas are expected to immerse themselves in Jammu and Kashmir’s scenic beauty and local artistry with an opportunity to engage with the local community, highlighting the region’s unique heritage.

Lt Governor attends the final match of Kashmir Women Cricket League in Srinagar

The daughters of J&K are shining in different sectors despite many obstacles and challenges: LG Sinha

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 27: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today attended the final match of Kashmir Women Cricket League in Srinagar.

12 women cricket teams hailing from various parts of the Kashmir Division participated in the tournament organized under the aegis of Chinar Corps. International Cricketer and Former Captain of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team, Padma Shri Mithali Raj also graced the occasion.

In his address, the Lt Governor congratulated all the participants and the winners of the Women Cricket League.

He appreciated the initiative of Chinar Corps which aims to uplift the spirit of women and empower them through sports so they can achieve sporting excellence and popularize a robust sports culture among girls in far-flung areas.

“The daughters of J&K are shining in different sectors despite many obstacles and challenges. They are breaking the glass ceilings and advancing their position in agriculture, industries, IT and startups.Even in the sports arena, they have proved to be second to none,” the Lt Governor said.

The Lt Governor highlighted the key endeavours of the government to provide handholding and support to the women in the Union Territory in diverse fields.

Women-led development is our top priority. Our socio-economic development policy is based on the idea of gender equality and necessary steps have been taken for empowerment of women and to provide them equal opportunity in every sector, he said.

Acknowledging the role of women in nation building, the Lt Governor said the way the women scientists have taken the lead in the Chandrayaan-3 mission has set an example for others to follow.

The Lt Governor reiterated the commitment of the UT Administration to provide world class sports infrastructure and mentoring to nurture the young sporting talents of Jammu Kashmir.

He said the recent successes of women players at the national and international events have kindled hopes. We have accorded due importance to sports and now we are witnessing a new sports culture in UT, adequate infrastructure and our resolve is to make J&K sporting power, he added.

There is no dearth of talent in J&K. The presence of International Cricketer Mithali Raj will serve as motivation for players. I am looking forward to the day when media channel headlines will say-The Girl from Anantnag, who is India’s new Mithali Raj. I firmly believe it is possible, the Lt Governor said.

The final was played between Anantnag Rebels and the Budgam Strikers.

The Lt Governor handed over trophies and cash prizes to the winning, and other top performing teams and the players who excelled in the tournament.

Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, GOC 15 Corps; Brig Anil Gupta, Member Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association, Eminent sports personalities, Senior Civil, Police and Army officers, Sports lovers and youth in large numbers were present.

Vehicle checking intensified at Bandipora

10 Vehicles blacklisted, Rs 15k recovered from offenders

BANDIPORA, AUGUST 23: Continuing the aggressive vehicle checking across Bandipora against traffic violations, Assistant Regional Transport Office (ARTO) Bandipora Wednesday blacklisted 10 Vehicles on Bandipora-Sopore route.
The Assistant Regional Transport Officer informed that as many as 40 vehicles were checked on Bandipora-Sopore road. He said during the checking 07 Driving licences, 05 RCs were also seized and notices were issued on spot for traffic violations.
It was further informed that 10 vehicles were blacklisted and an amount of Rs 15000 was also recovered on spot from the offenders. The ARTO said that more fines are expected to be recovered from blacklisted vehicles.
He said that, during the checking, special focus on installation of Speed limiting devices, overloading, wearing of helmets and seat belts is ensured.

Lieutenant Governor Congratulates ISRO for the success of Chandrayaan 3 Lunar Mission

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 23: The Lieutenant Governor, Shri Manoj Sinha has congratulated the ISRO, team Chandrayaan and the entire space scientists community for successful landing of Chandrayaan 3 on the moon. India has become the fourth country ever to land a spacecraft on the moon and the first country to land on the south pole.

In a tweet the Lt Governor said: “India is on the moon! Heartiest Congratulations to team @ISRO for success of #Chandrayaan3 lunar mission. Absolutely momentous achievement and important milestone in the development of India’s space programme”.

Smart Power Meters: JPDCL announces relief measures, designates nodal officers to address public grievances

JAMMU, AUGUST 22: In response to public concerns and grievances surrounding the implementation of smart power meters, Managing Director Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL), Shiv Anant Tyal made several important announcements today.

Acknowledging the difficulties faced by consumers in examining meter readings, the Managing Director has directed that, henceforth, meters shall preferentially be installed on consumers’ house walls. To ensure a seamless and transparent installation process, JPDCL officials will accompany the vendors at the time of meter installation.

Responding to the need for accuracy verification, the JPDCL will install old digital meters in parallel with smart meters in specific locations. This trial phase will assess the accuracy and authenticity of readings produced by the newly installed smart meters.

Helpline numbers and help desks have been established to receive calls and promptly address issues regarding smart meters. These resources will serve as a direct line of communication for consumers to report and resolve meter-related concerns.

Dedicated Nodal Officers have been appointed from various subdivisions of JPDCL to oversee the redressal of Smart Meter grievances. They will be responsible for resolving consumer complaints related to Smart Meters received through calls, SMS or WhatsApp.

Police arrests rape accused in Baramulla within hours

Baramulla, August 22: Police in Baramulla have arrested a rape accused within hours after a complaint was filed.
Police Station Baramulla received a written complaint from a minor girl (name withheld) stating therein that she was abducted by one person namely Mohammad Umar Parray (Venture Driver) son of Mohammad Amin Parray resident of Parray Mohalla Sangri and raped her at secluded place in Sangri.
Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Baramulla and investigation was initiated.
During the course of investigation, officers utilized technical & human sources and after strenuous efforts, traced and arrested the accused person within hours after the complaint was received.
Further medico-legal formalities have been conducted and further investigation of the case is in progress.

Sachin Kumar Vaishy takes over as Deputy Commissioner Jammu

JAMMU, AUGUST 21: Sachin Kumar Vaishy assumed the charge as Deputy Commissioner Jammu from the incumbent Avny Lavasa here today.
The outgoing Deputy Commissioner was accorded a warm farewell at a function attended by officers and staff of the DC office and Revenue Department including Additional District Development Commissioner, Ramesh Chander; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Harvinder Singh; Additional Commissioner General and Assistant Commissioner Revenue.
Speaking on the occasion, Avny Lavasa talked about the challenges, and lessons learnt during her tenure as the DC Jammu. She remarked that Jammu serves as the foundation for pivotal activities at the Union Territory level, contributing a major portion to its revenue generation. “Alongside this, the district also receives its share of grievances, which requires coordination and teamwork for effective administration” she added.
Avny Lavasa expressed her deep appreciation for the dedicated officers and staff of the district, emphasising their relentless efforts in handling a substantial workload. She extended her heartfelt gratitude to her personal staff, which also includes drivers and security personnel, for their unwavering support throughout her tenure.
Avny Lavasa warmly welcomed her successor, Sachin Vaishy and conveyed her optimism for his leadership.
In response, Sachin Vaishya, the incoming DC, expressed his commitment to build upon the foundations laid by his predecessor. “We will work together, following in the footsteps of the former administrator to address the challenges and harness the strengths of Jammu for its collective betterment,” he stated.
The event concluded with expressions of goodwill from the district staff, including Patwaris and Girdwars, who extended their thanks to Avny Lavasa and wished her the best of luck for her future endeavours.

National Sports Week celebrations kicks-off at Baramulla

BARAMULLA, AUGUST 21: The Department of Youth Services & Sports, District Baramulla has announced the commencement of the National Sports Week celebrations from August 21 to August 29 with an aim to honor the birth anniversary of the renowned hockey legend, Major Dhyan Chand.

To kick-off the celebrations, the Department organized a series of exciting sports activities across various zones. The opening day witnessed an enthusiastic participation of students from both private and government schools. The event showcased a vibrant display of athletic prowess and sportsmanship.

Zone Dangiwacha conducted an engaging trio of sports competitions, including Badminton, 100m sprint, and the Lemon race. A remarkable total of 260 students enthusiastically took part, competing fiercely while embodying the spirit of healthy competition and teamwork.

Zone Nehalpora witnessed an equally fervent response, where 200 students participated in the Badminton, 100m sprint, and Lemon race competitions. The determination and enthusiasm shown by the students underscored the importance of fostering a love for sports among the youth.

Police busts deceptive jeweller in counterfeit gold ornament scam in Pulwama; accused arrested

Pulwama, August 18: In a significant breakthrough against fraudulent activities, Police in Pulwama has successfully arrested a deceptive jeweller in counterfeit gold ornament scam.
Police in Pulwama received a series of complaints against the jeweller namely Sajad Ah Zargar, (operating a gold shop named Diamond Jewellers at AL-Ahmad complex near Shaheed Farooq Chowk Pulwama), allegedly deceived customers with counterfeit gold ornaments and has been engaging in this fraudulent activity for an extended period. Acting swiftly, the accused jeweller involved in the commission of crime was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 210/2023 was registered at Police Station Pulwama, and a thorough investigation has been initiated.
The arrest follows a meticulous investigation into allegations of counterfeit gold ornaments being sold to innocent customers, shedding light on a series of complaints against the accused. This apprehension serves as a stern warning to those involved in fraudulent practices, as J&K Police remains vigilant in ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.

Amar Singh College announces counseling schedule for students in various courses

Only students who have sought admission and subsequently appeared in CUET-2023 asked to attended counseling session

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 18: Students who have sought admission to various programs at Amar Singh College and appeared in CUET 2023 conducted by National Testing Authority are being informed that first batch of 1262 students have been allotted for admission process from 19th to 21st August 2023.

Inorder to facilitate their admission, a proper counselling schedule has been rolled out by the college and same stands notified on college website as well as through print and electronic media.

Students are advised to attend the counselling cum admission strictly as per the pre-notified schedule according to which around 200 students are being called in morning and evening session each on 19th, 21st and 22nd August 2023. The venue is Taseer Hall of college and applicants are advised to bring all certificates as per checklist given in the Counselling cum Admission notification on college website.

No student will be entertained for document verification and admission outside the allocated time and date window.

For non CUET applicants a separate notification will be issued shortly.
