Baramulla, July 20: Police in Baramulla have solved a burglary case by arresting an accused person involved in the commission of crime.
On 15/07/2023, Police Station Pattan received a complaint from one person namely Farooq Ahmad Bhat son of Ab Jabbar Bhat resident of Wailoo Pattan stating therein that some unknown burglars barged his Kiryana shop situated at Wailoo Pattan during Friday prayers and have stolen Edible oil & other Kiryana items.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 232/2023 was registered at Police Station Pattan and investigation was initiated.
During the course of investigation, officers with the help of technical and human resources, zeroed in on one suspect namely Sajad Ahmad Bhat son of Mohd Ramzan Bhat resident of Wailoo Pattan. After thorough questioning, he confessed his involvement in the commission of crime.
On his disclosure, all the stolen property including edible oil & Kiryana items were recovered from his possession.
Baramulla, July 20: Police in Baramulla recovered an abducted girl and arrested 02 accused persons involved in the commission of crime.
On 01/07/2023, Police Post Palhallan received a written complaint from one person (name withheld) stating therein that his daughter aged about 19 years was missing from home since 30/06/2023.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 222/ 2023 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Pattan and investigation was initiated.
During the course of investigation, it came fore that some unknown persons have abducted the said missing girl. During further investigation, officers with the help of technical evidences learnt that the accused persons along with victim had left UT of J&K for New Delhi.
Acting promptly, a team was constituted who accordingly went to New Delhi where from the abducted girl was recovered and the accused persons have also been arrested. They have been identified as Ashiq Ali Mangral son of Mohd Akram Mangral resident of Tuli Reasi & Deep Kumar son of Sadha Ram resident of Chalabeni Kathua.
After completing the legal formalities, the abductee was handed over to her legal heirs.

Holds series of meetings with Shia community to review arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram
Line Departments asked to ensure all basic facilities during the Holy Month
SRINAGAR, JULY 15: In view of forthcoming Holy month of Muharram-ul-Haram, the Deputy Commissioner(DC) Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad Saturday undertook an extensive visit of various Shia populated areas of City and Imambargahs at Zadibal and Hasanabad to take a first hand appraisal of arrangements being made for smooth observance of Muharram proceedings.
The Deputy Commissioner also visited the Shrine of Shamsuddin Araqi and Shia populated areas enroute Mir Behri Dal.
During the visit, the DC was accompanied by Additional District Development Commissioner, Srinagar, Zahoor Ahmad Mir, SSP Traffic Traffic, Muzafar Ahmad Shah, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Syed Ahmad Kataria, SP Headquarter, Arif Amin, besides, Joint Commissioner, SMC, Chief Medical Officer, Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers of R&B, PDD, PHE, SDM, East, SDM West, Tehsildars of Eidgah, Khanyar and North, ARTO and other senior officers from Police and Civil Administration.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner passed several onspot directions to the line Departments and stressed on elaborate arrangements and sustained efforts facilitating the observance of important proceedings especially on the 9th and 10th of Muharram. The DC also stressed on conducting Department wise audit of the essential services on the occasion of the Holy month.
At Zadibal Imambara, the DC held a detailed interaction with the local Shia leaders and public representatives to have first-hand feedback of the arrangements to be put in place during the Holy Month of Muharram-ul-Haram.
On the occasion, the Chief Medical Officer and officers of the Health Department were asked to keep first aid facilities, Medical teams and Ambulances available in the areas and also accompany the processions to ensure immediate first aid/ medical treatment.
Similarly, the DC asked the SMC and allied Departments to repair all dysfunctional Street lights including High Mass lights around Imambaras and make them functional well before the important days of Muharram. He also stressed on ensuring cleanliness of lanes and drains inside the compounds of Imambaras, Shrines and roads enroute Procession routes. He also asked them to enhance manpower for ensuring proper cleanliness during the Muharram days.
The DC also asked the concerned Departments to take immediate measures for cleanliness and desilting of drains in Zadibal, Alamgari Bazar, Madain Sahib Hawal and other routes leading to Imambaras and through which Muharram processions will pass so that people do not face any difficulty.
Similarly, in order to ensure uninterrupted electricity and water supplies particularly in Shia populated areas, the DC passed on spot directions to concerned Officers for making all arrangements. He also asked Executive Engineer PHE to keep provision of water tanker supply wherever required.
The Traffic authorities were also impressed upon ensuring smooth movement of traffic enroute to the Muharrum processions particularly on 7, 9 and 10th of Muharram. They were also asked to maintain proper coordination with the Police Department.
The DC also enjoined upon the officers to keep proper vigil on prices of essential commodities and conduct intensified market checking to avoid profiteering and hoardings.
At Hasanabad Imambara, the DC holds a meeting with the concerned leaders of the Community and took stock of the similar arrangements and asked officers to complete all arrangements well before the start of the Holy month. He also asked the LCMA authorities to take up immediate work for the levelling of Auqaf Bagh besides other cleanliness measures.
Meanwhile, the DC also visited the Shrine of Mir Shams-ud-din Muhammad Araqi at Zadibal to oversee the arrangements being made for the smooth observance of Muharram.
During the series of meetings, the DC was presented detailed charter of demands which was listened by him patiently and necessary instructions were given to all the concerned Departments to fulfil them well before the commencement of Muharram
Later, the Deputy Commissioner undertook a comprehensive visit to Mir Behri Dal, the interiors of densely populated Shia areas.
On the occasion, the DC met scores of people of the Shia community and assured them that adequate arrangements shall be made available on the eve of the month of Muharram ul Haram.
SRINAGAR, JULY 15: Principal Secretary Education , Alok Kumar today visited Amar Singh College and took stock of functioning of the college.
The Principal Secretary during his visit also inaugurated new canteen block of college in presence of Special Secretary, Higher Education Department, Dr. Ravi Shankar Sharma; Principal Amar Singh College, Dr. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir; Vice Chairman Gandhi Global Family, Padma, S.P.Verma and staff members of college. The new canteen block has been constructed at the cost of Rs. 1.25 Cr and is equipped with the latest facilities for the staff and students with special provisions for specially abled persons.

Principal Secretary, during the visit, also inaugurated programme on Gandhian Ideology and Philosophy organised by an NGO, Gandhi Global Family and interacted with the members of the NGO across Kashmir Division.

Baramulla, July 13: In a significant crackdown on illegal activities, Police in Baramulla have arrested a shopkeeper from Palhallan for his involvement in the unauthorized sale of petroleum products at exorbitant rates.
A police party under the supervision of SDPO Pattan Shri Mohd Nawaz-JKPS, assisted by Incharge Police Post Palhallan arrested a Shopkeeper identified as Mehraj Din Mir son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Mir resident of Tantraypora Palhallan who has been found involved in selling of Petroleum products illegal on exorbitant rates at his shop located at Palhallan Pattan, Baramulla. During search, 187 litres of Petrol/ Diesel was recovered from his shop. He has been shifted to PS where he remains in custody.
Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Pattan and investigation has been initiated.
Police urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or illegal practices they come across. Such information can be crucial in curbing criminal activities and maintaining a safe and secure environment for all.
Jammu University to launch innovative program ‘Design Your Degree’
SRINAGAR, JULY 12: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha chaired the meeting of J&K Higher Education Council at Raj Bhawan, today.
The meeting deliberated on a range of themes like multidisciplinary education, ecosystem for research and innovation, Indian philosophy and languages, and project based learning mode, combined with needs and challenges of society.
Prof. Dinesh Singh, Vice Chairman, J&K Higher Education Council; Prof. Umesh Rai, VC, University of Jammu; Prof. Nilofer Khan, VC Kashmir University; Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, VC, IUST; Prof. Bechan Lal, VC Cluster University Jammu; Sh Pragati Kumar, VC SMVDU; Prof. Akbar Masood, VC BGSBU; Prof. Qayyum Husain, VC Cluster University Srinagar and other members of the J&K Higher Education Council attended the meeting and also shared their valuable suggestions on ‘Design Your Degree’ an innovative program to be launched by the University of Jammu.
The Lt Governor said, ‘Design Your Degree’ is one of the cornerstones of the National Education Policy-2020. It will promote applicative learning, skill enhancement aligned with needs of 21st Century and provide unique opportunity to students to shape their curriculum, he added.
Sharing the ongoing transformational journey of education sector in J&K UT, the Lt Governor said the rapid advancements in education and other sectors and the evolving needs and aspirations of the society requires contribution of learning in classrooms to changes and new solutions.
“Journey of our Amrit Kaal will not be about only degree but also about skills and values. No classroom can afford to teach subjects that are irrelevant in today’s context,” the Lt Governor said.
He emphasized on identifying new sectors of employment and increasing interaction with leading academicians. Research should reflect the reality of accelerated transformation, he added.
“5Cs- Critical evaluation is must for future strategy. Critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, curiosity will build equitable and vibrant knowledge society”, the Lt Governor observed.
The Lt Governor impressed on the Universities to carry out critical evaluation and identify the strength and weakness. This will help to formulate suitable strategy to achieve future goals, he added.
Multi-disciplinary projects need to be promoted to create vibrant environment for the youth that will engage them on Global, Economic, Social, Cultural and Technical Issues and guide them according to the changes taking place across the globe, he said.
The Lt Governor said that there are still many walls that separate the academic world and the real world. Until and unless we bring down those walls, until the academic world and the real world are seen as one and the same, our task will be incomplete, he added.
He advised the Higher Education Council to explore various ways that can prove to be dividends for the higher education ecosystem of J&K UT.
He further advised on strengthening the alumni network; facilitating student and faculty exchange programmes and improving rankings of the Universities and other Higher Educational Institutions.
We should study successful models of other universities like Delhi University for reforms in examination, the Lt Governor said.

Srinagar: Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, son of late Mohammad Jawad Sheikh of Mohalla Syed Afzal Sheribhat here, passed away on Wednesday at SKIMS Soura after a brief illness.
The deceased, an ex-president of the Hussaini Khidmatgar Committee of Syed Afzal Mohalla, was also well known as an Islamic and social activist.
All walks of life participated in his Nimaz-e-Jinazah (funeral prayers), led by Aga Syed Adeel Murtaza Al-Mosvi Al-Safvi.
Abdul Qayoom Rather, active president of the Hussaini Khidmatgar Committee, said that Sheikh’s contribution to the Hussaini Khidmatgar Committee is unforgettable. He always spoke to the committee members about brotherhood, peace, and prosperity”.
Tanveer Ahmad Rather, a local resident, said that “Sheikh was a pious, kind-hearted, down-to-earth, and staunch believer of Ahlebait (as)”.
His congregational Fateha Khawani will be held on July 9 at their graveyard at Mohalla Syed Afzal, opposite Government Girls Higher Secondary School Zadibal, Srinagar, at 7:00 a.m. After that, a daylong condolence meeting will be held at Iqbal Khomani Hall at Mohalla Syed Afzal.
SRINAGAR, JULY 07: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has notified 21 more crafts from Kashmir as “Notified Handicrafts” thereby acknowledging the scores of artisans’ associated with the crafts. Notification of these crafts was a long pending demand of the artisans associated with these crafts and shall enable the artisans to gain a sense of pride and identity. It shall also enable the department to register the artisans in the erstwhile left out crafts which shall in turn ensure preservation and protection of these traditional skills from being lost over time. By registering these artisans their knowledge and expertise shall be documented, ensuring their techniques and craftsmanship are safeguarded for future generations. Besides, the artisans shall gain access to various government support programs which will help in increasing the number of genuine artisan community and such a measure will extend the benefits of the government schemes to the hitherto unrecognized artisan segments of the society by which they can avail the Artisan/Weavers Credit scheme, Karkhandar scheme, Assistance under the Cooperative Act, MUDRA Scheme and educational benefits for their kin’s. The artisans shall be brought at par with other registered artisans to open up avenues for artisans to showcase and market their products to a wider audience by participation in exhibitions, trade fairs, and cultural events hosted by the department where they can promote and sell their crafts. Notification of these crafts comes at the time when the Department of Handicrafts and Handloom Kashmir is pitching hard for Geographical Indication (GI) of all the indigenous crafts of Kashmir. The crafts which have been notified include, Sozni Embroidery, Staple Embroidery, Khatamband, Paper Pulp, Kharadi, Glazed Pottery, Katas, Copperware Engraving, Copperware Sakhta, Pottery, Calligraphy, Painting, Handicrafts Furniture, Handmade Aromatics, Handmade Soap, Filigree, Mosaic Craft, Wagguv, Shikara, Willow Bat, Innovative Crafts. Besides the 21 crafts of Kashmir, 10 crafts of Jammu have also been declared as “Notified Crafts”. Director Handicrafts and Handloom Kashmir expressed his satisfaction for inclusion of these crafts as Notified Crafts under the provision of the Jammu and Kashmir Handicrafts Quality Control Act 1978 which would address the demand of a wide sector of artisans who are associated with these crafts. “We are taking several initiatives in reaching out to the artisans in Kashmir. Proactive marketing, curbs on fake handicraft products, special incentives to artisans and operationalizing of GI-system for Handicrafts are some of the major ongoing initiatives that are underway”, he said.
