KU’s South Campus gets e-Rikshaw from J&K Bank under CSR

Anantnag, May 5: The Jammu & Kashmir Bank under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative has provided a battery operated e-Rikshaw to the South Campus, University of Kashmir.

Zonal Head, Anantnag Mr. Khursheed Muzaffar handed over the keys of 4+1 seater E-Rikshaw to Director, South Campus, Prof Mukhtar Ahmad Khanday at a small function held at South Campus, Anantnag.

The E-Rikshaw will cater to the needs of specially-abled students and female staff of the Campus.

The function was attended by faculty members, officers of the Campus, and a team of officials and officers from J&K Bank.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Mukhtar Khanday expressed his gratitude to J&K Bank for acceding to the request of dedicating a battery operated E-Rikshaw to South Campus.

He further said that South Campus will try to further build a strong relationship with J&K Bank and promote entrepreneurship and help the campus in various economic initiatives.

He said that under the National Green Corps programme launched by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, the Campus is mulling collaborating with the JK Bank to make South Campus a Green and Carbon-Free Campus.

Dr Khanday requested the Bank authorities to support the campus students by providing bus service in future under the CSR scheme.

Zonal Head, Mr. Khursheed Muzaffar while speaking on the occasion said that J&K Bank is happy to provide financial services to University of Kashmir and its students to excel in the field of education. He said that J&K Bank will try to come up to the expectations of the employees and students of the varsity in terms of providing them educational loans and other facilities to carry out their academic and research activities. He agreed to the request of South Campus for an MoU to strengthen the relation with JK Bank.

Earlier, Dr Mohammad Iqbal Bhat, Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematics, presented a brief account of the South Campus and later delivered a formal vote of thanks.

All Minority Employees Association Kashmir calls on Lt Governor

SRINAGAR, MAY 05: A delegation of All Minority Employees Association, Kashmir called on Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today at Raj Bhawan.

The delegation headed by its President Sh Sanjay Koul projected various issues of employees of minority community under PMDP and other employment schemes, who are working in Kashmir division.

The members of the delegation also expressed gratitude to the Lt Governor led UT administration for promptly resolving many of the issues of the minority community employees.

The Lt Governor assured the delegation of appropriate redressal of the genuine issues and demands projected during the interaction.

5 teachers of Police Pubic School Bemina Srinagar facilitated with best teacher awards

Srinagar, May 03: CT University of Punjab in collaboration with Kashmir University organised one day workshop in the convocation complex of University of Kashmir on the theme “Unlocking Opportunities for the Youth”, today. On the occasion, five teachers of PPS Bemina Srinagar were facilitated with best teacher awards besides, the principal of the institution was awarded with a memento of honour for being among 15 influential principals of the valley.
On this occasion, Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University Prof. Nelofer Khan and Chancellor of CT University of Punjab Charanjit Singh Channi were chief guests. In the workshop the main focus was NEP 2020 keeping in view the skill based opportunities for the youth. During the workshop the professors of both the universities along with chief guests throw light on the holistic development of the young generation. The joint director of CT university Dr. Maninder Pal Singh encouraged the students for the skill based education.
In the event, Police Public School Bemina Srinagar participated with great enthusiasm. Five teachers including Mr Sheikh Rouf, Mr. Mir Zahoor, Mr. Yasir Yousuf, Ms. Zeeza Mushtaq and Ms. Shabnum Malik were felicitated with best teacher awards. Moreover, the best performed students of the institution got certificates in the workshop. Principal of PPS Bemina was also awarded with a memento of honour for being among 15 influential principals of valley.

Police arrests 07 gamblers in Baramulla, stake money seized

Baramulla, May 03: Acting tough against the social crimes, police in a series of actions have arrested 07 gamblers in Baramulla and seized stake money from their possession.

Acting on specific information regarding gambling activities at Sultanpora Pattan, a police party of Police Post Wussan raided the specific spot and arrested 03 gamblers. They have been identified as Gh Hassan Khanday son of Mohd Sultan resident of Wazpora Naidkhai, Mohd Younis Dar son of Gh Rasool resident of Arampora Sumbal & Ishfaq Ahmad Najar son of Mohd Abdullah resident of Anderkot Chan Mohalla Sumbal. They have also seized stake money of ₹ 4,820/- and playing cards recovered from their possession.

Similarly, a police party of Police Station Pattan raided a gambling site in the orchards of Buran Pattan and arrested 04 gamblers. They have been identified as Gh Mohd Rather son of Gh Mohidin Rather, Mohd Ashraf Sofi son of Gh Qadir Sofi, Mohd Sadiq Khan son of Sonaullah Khan, Manzoor Ahmad Bhat son of Ali Mohd Bhat, all residents of Buran Pattan. Officers have also seized stake money of ₹ 5,460/- and playing cards from their possession.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in Police Station Pattan and investigation has been initiated.

People found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per law. Community members are requested to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units.

Police arrests 02 fraudsters in Handwara

Handwara, May 03: Police in Handwara have arrested two fraudsters for defrauding a shopkeeper & recovered the property fraudulently gained by them.
On 30/04/2023, Police Station Handwara received a complaint from a shopkeeper to the effect that two persons purchased some electronic items from his shop at Handwara Market and fled from the shop without making any payment.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 99/2023 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Handwara and investigation was initiated.
Acting swiftly, following leads developed during investigation including statements of witnesses and technical evidences, the accused persons involved in the commission of crime were arrested. They have been identified as Showkat Ahmad Mir son of Mohd Yousuf and Noor Mohd Khan son of Wali Mohd Khan, both residents of Zaloora Sopore.
On their disclosure, electronic items fraudulently taken by them including 01 refrigerator, 01 washing machine, 01 solar panel and 01 inverter battery were recovered.
Further investigation into the case is going on to ascertain further involvement of the accused persons in other criminal cases.

Police books 04 notorious drug smugglers under PIT NDPS Act

Baramulla, May 02: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have booked 04 notorious drug peddlers under PIT NDPS Act, besides two (02) notorious thieves have also been booked under PSA for their involvement in many cases, in Baramulla.

The four notorious drug peddlers are identified as Habeel Yaseen Dar @ Rouf son of Mohd Yaseen resident of Tarhama Kunzer, Ab Rehman Malik @ Rehman Military son of Ghulam Mohammad resident of Kalantra Payeen Kreeri, Shahnawaz Ahmad Mir @ Boja son of Matwali Mir resident of Daragutliyan Uri & Hafeez Ahmad Khan son of Mohd Abass resident of Rehsiwari Niloosa Baramulla. They have been booked under PIT NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority & subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jammu.

Its pertinent to mention that many cases are registered against these drug peddlers and they were involved in promoting drug trade by supplying drugs to local youth of Kunzer, Kreeri Wagoora, Uri, Bijhama and other areas of District Baramulla. Despite their involvement in many FIRs, they did not mend their activities and were again involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth.

The two notorious thieves are identified as Syed Zaffar Shah @ Zaffar son of Mohd Muzaffar Shah & Fida Hussain Khanday @ Fida son of Gh Mohammad Khanday, both residents of Devar Yakhmanpora Baramulla and were detained under Public Safety Act by Police after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent Authority and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal Jammu.

Its pertinent to mention here that many cases are registered against these thieves and were involved in theft cases in Pattan area of District Baramulla. Despite their involvement in many FIR’s, they did not mend their activities.

Consistent actions of Police against the criminals should reassure the community members that police is making all efforts to eradicate social evils and making all efforts to keep our society free from drug abuse.

Australian Ambassador Barry O’Farrell calls on Lt Governor

SRINAGAR, MAY 02: Australian Ambassador Shri Barry O’Farrell and Second Secretary Shri Jack Taylor met with Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha to discuss a range of issues here at Raj Bhawan.

The meeting discussed development in J&K and investment opportunities in the Union Territory particularly in horticulture and food processing sector.

Discussions also focused on areas of interest, including technology, renewable energy, and tourism.

The Lt Governor highlighted the importance of the upcoming G-20 summit in Srinagar as an opportunity to showcase the region’s economic potential and ongoing efforts to enhance international investment.

The discussions also touched upon bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest.

SP College organises intramural tournament in various sports activities

SRINAGAR, MAY 02: The Physical Education Department of Sri Pratap (SP) College today organized intramural tournament in various Sports activities at college campus here.

The tournament was inaugurated by Principal, SP College, Prof. Gulam Jeelani Qurashi.

These sports activities will run throughout the year as per the college Sports calendar.

Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the tournament, the Principal urged upon the students to actively participate in sports activities as it helps individual much more than in the physical aspects alone. He added that it also builds character, teaches and develops strategic and analytical thinking, leadership skills, goal setting, and risk taking in an individual.

Sports Secretary CUS, Dr Khurshid Ahmad Parray delivered vote of thanks during the event, in which he stressed upon the students to actively take part and utilize sports activities and sports infrastructure present in the college.

The event was also attended by Prof. Shahid Ahmad Wani, Dr. Javid Hassan, Prof. Magray Aijaz, Prof Iliyas Lone, other staff of college and large number of students.

Traffic awareness drive held

Srinagar: On a specific complaint by one child rights advocate and in a bid to promote road safety among children, today on 01 May, 2023, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Srinagar in collaboration with the Traffic police, Bemina launched a traffic awareness drive in Bemina near Iqbal Memorial Boys school, Srinagar.
The campaign aims to educate children about the importance of following traffic rules, discouraging rash, reckless and negligent driving among children. Besides, this initiative aims to counsel the negligent parents who in brazen violation of traffic regulations hand over the keys of their vehicle to the young children.
“With the increase in traffic and accidents involving children in the city, it has become imperative to create awareness about road safety among children who are often vulnerable and unaware of the risks involved. The traffic awareness drive will focus on educating children about traffic signs, traffic lights, and basic road safety rules” conveyed CWC.

While conducting this drive, eight (8) motor cycles including scooties and a car, were seized by the traffic police. Besides, on the spot directions has been passed by CWC Srinagar, for the personal appearance of the Principal, Iqbal Memorial Boys School, as well as against the negligent parents, who by their inaction had allowed children to ply the vehicles in violation of traffic regulations.
Through this drive, which is ongoing and will be conducted across the Srinagar, Children will be taught about the dangers of plying the vehicle on or near roads. The campaign also aims to sensitize children about the violations of rules and regulations entailed under MV Act and encourage them to become responsible road users. Similar, traffic awareness drives will be conducted in schools across the city, in collaboration with the concerned authorities.
Commenting on the launch of the traffic awareness drive, the Chairperson CWC, Srinagar said, “We believe that educating children about road safety is critical to reducing the number of accidents on our roads. By raising awareness among children, we hope to create a culture of responsible road usage and promote safety for all.” Chairperson further asserted that the paramount mandate of CWC is to ensure that rights and safety of the children and the same shall be in the best interest of the children.
The traffic awareness drive is part of a larger initiative by CWC to promote road safety and reduce the number of accidents on the city’s roads.

Police arrests 2 persons involved in kidnapping of 02 minor girls in Baramulla

Baramulla, May 01: Police have arrested two accused persons for their involvement in kidnapping of two minor girls in Baramulla.

Police Station Sheeri received a written complaint from Abdul Rehman Beigh son of Abdul Rahim Beigh stating therein that his two minor daughters were kidnapped by Mohd Aqib Dar and Rayees Ahmad Lone, both residents of Pehliharan. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 38/2023 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Sheeri and investigation was initiated.

During the investigation of the case, police acting promptly arrested both the involved accused persons and rescued the minor girls. Both the accused persons have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody. After completing all necessary legal formalities, the victims were handed over to their legal heirs.

Police has expressed its strong commitment to ensure that the accused face the full extent of the law for their heinous acts. They are conducting further investigations into the case to ensure that justice is served.
