Dr. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir appointed Director Colleges

Srinagar, July 8: Principal Amar Singh College and Nodal Officer for Kashmir Division Colleges, Dr. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir has been appointed as Director College, Higher Education Department, J&K vide Order No: 366 -JK(HE) of 2024 Dated: 08- 07- 2024 issued by issued by Alok Kumar, the Principal Secretary of the Higher Education Department, J&K.

According to the government order, Dr. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Principal, Amar Singh College, Srinagar, is hereby transferred and posted as Director Colleges, J&K relieving Dr. Yasmeen Ashai, Dean, Academic Affairs, Cluster University of Srinagar, from the additional charge of the post of Director Colleges, J&K.

Dr. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir shall remain posted as Director Colleges, J&K for a period of two years, with immediate effect.

It is further ordered that Dr. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir shall continue to hold the post of Nodal Principal, Kashmir and Principal, Amar Singh College, Srinagar till the said posts are filled up by the Administrative Department.

Blood women of Jammu Kashmir donates 36th pint of blood

Srinagar, Jun 25: Ms Bilquis Ara, the blood woman of Jammu Kashmir donated her 36th pint of blood today at Lal Ded Hospital in Srinagar. In an event held in the afternoon at hospital’s blood bank, officials from health department and eminent non-profit Red Drop were also present. The blood donation event by a passionate health worker from remote Kupwara village was also attended by Dr Arjumand Bashir Deputy Director Health Services Kashmir.
“Blood is a previous liquid and it can save lives. Every healthy person among us should come forward to donate blood in the best interests of humanity, ” said Bilquis Ara, who is also a president of Red Drop.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Tawseef, Chair Man Red Drop said that our goal is provide blood to every needy in the society. From last two years we have been actively working to engage more and more youth irrespective of their gender to participate in the humane work of blood donation.
“The woman like Bilquis are a true role model in the society. I believe other women would take cue from her and come forward for this noble cause, ” said Shabir Hussain Khan, President Red Drop.

IGNOU Kashmir launches many new innovative courses

Srinagar, Jun 25Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is proud to announce the launch of various new innovative programmes in ODL mode for July 2024 admission cycles which are aimed to enrich the educational opportunities available to the aspiring students across the country. These new initiatives underscore IGNOU’s commitment to fostering accessible and inclusive learning environments. The programmes are MBA in Agribusiness Management, Health Care and Hospital Management, Construction Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Rehabilitation Psychology, Fashion Design and Retail and certificate programmes like Event Management, Early Childhood Special Education Enabling Inclusion –Hearing Impairment, Early Childhood Special Education Enabling Inclusion –Visual Impairment and Early Childhood Special Education Enabling Inclusion –Intellectual Disability. Also MoU has been signed between IGNOU New Delhi and Rehabilitation Council of India for launching of the PG in Rehabilitation Psychology programme throughout the country for July 2024 admission cycle. Composite Regional Centre Srinagar will be one of the study centres of IGNOU throughout the country where the programme can be started. We are also in the process of signing of the MoU with NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology) Srinagar for the establishment of a Programme study centre where Diploma in Fashion Design and Retail programme can be activated. Besides this, two new proposals for establishing the IGNOU study centre at SKUAST-K and IUST are in the pipeline where the agriculture and science based programmes can be activated. We are also exploring the possibilities of opening new study centres where the MSC programmes like Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, and Biochemistry can be activated.
Dr. A.H. Rizvi, Regional Director IGNOU Srinagar communicated that the admission to all the academic programmes offered in ODL(Open Distance Learning)/OL (Online Learning) mode for the July 2024 admission session is presently going on. The last date for submitting the application forms through online mode is 30 June 2024.”

2 Day National Conference on NEP-2020 begins at GCOE Srinagar

SRINAGAR, JUNE 25: The Govt. College of Education (GCoE) M.A. Road Srinagar today hosted a two-day National Conference on the theme “NEP 2020: Innovative Pedagogical Approaches and Evaluation Reforms in Higher Education.

The conference was inaugurated by a renowned educationist and innovator, Prof. Dinesh Singh, Chairperson of JK Higher Education Council. Dignitaries from across the country participated in the conference, which, among others, included Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Kashmir; Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor Jammu University; Prof. Manisha Priyam from National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration, New Delhi; Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Ashai, Director of Colleges, J&K; Prof (Dr) Wilayat Rizvi, Registrar Cluster University; Prof (Dr) Syed Nazir Simnani , Principal GDC Bemina; Prof (Dr) Ghulam Jeelani Qurashi Principal SP College and other Faculty members deputed from various colleges and research scholars across J&K also attended the conference. The academicians from Delhi University, TISS Mumbai, Jammu University and Jamia Millia Islamia were also present in the inaugural session.

The Chief Guest, Prof. Dinesh Singh, highlighted the real meaning of education in his address saying that true education is when you start hearing the inner drumbeat and march in tune with it. Giving examples of Gandhi, Kabir, Einstein, Mendel, and Milton he also shed light on the importance of deep sprited activities in education.

Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, Vice-Chancellor Central University of Kashmir, highlighted in his special address the fact that the UT of J&K is at the forefront of implementing NEP-2020. He deliberated on key areas of NEP-2020, such as learner-centric education, inclusiveness in education, holistic approaches in education, designing your degree, and the academic bank of credits.

Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor Jammu University, also spoke on the occasion, emphasizing that education must not be confined to the four walls of the classroom but must be connect with real life.

Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Ashai, Director of Colleges, JK Higher Education, and Patron of the conference, elucidated on the theme NEP-2020: Key Issues, such as Multidisciplinary Education, Designing Your Degree, Multiple Entry and Exit Options, Courses on Indian Knowledge, and ICT in Higher Education.

Prof. Manisha Priyam from NIEPA spoke on the theme of NEP-2020 operationalization from a national perspective. In her speech, she highlighted key areas of NEP-2020, such as pedagogical approaches and evaluation reforms, breaking disciplinary boundaries, comparing AI and the human mind, open book exams, and creating a knowledge society.

Earlier, the Principal of host college, Prof. Seema Naz welcomed the guests. She presented a brief profile of the institution and highlighted the achievements of the college. She brought to focus the accomplishments of the institution in teaching-learning, innovations, internships, and infrastructure upgradation.

The conference will culminate on June 26, 2024, wherein paper presenters across J&K will present their papers on various themes of the conference, such as integrating innovative pedagogical approaches in teaching and learning in higher education, multi-mode teaching in higher education, and assessment and evaluation in higher education.

Simnani family bereaved

Srinagar, June 19: Wife of Syed Abdul Hamid Simnani, passed away after a brief illness at her residence at Lane J, Alamdar Colony, Rawalpora, Srinagar on Wednesday.
She was mother of Syed Zulfikar Ahmed Simnani, Syed Shakeel Ahmed Simnani, and Syed Professor Ruhul Amin Simnani. She was also Aunty of Professor (Dr.) Syed Nazir Simnani Principal of Govt. Degree Collge Bemina.
People from all walks of life participated in her funeral prayers (Nimaz-e-Jinaza), and offered their condolences to the bereaved family.
She was laid to rest at her ancestral graveyard at Lane J, Alamdar Colony, Rawalpora, Srinagar.
According to family sources, her congregational Fateha will be held on Saturday 22 June, 2024 at 10:30 am at Lane J, Alamdar Colony, Rawalpora graveyard.

Clarification regarding viral video of Molvi Imran Reza Ansari

Srinagar June 19: All Jammu and Kashmir Shia Association (AJKSA) issues a statement to set the record straight regarding a viral video featuring our President, Molvi Imran Reza Ansari.
“The video in question is an old footage from Chinabal, Pattan, showing a religious mediation between two parties, one of which refused to comply. It is not recent or post-election, as falsely claimed,” said AJKSA General Secretary, Abid Ansari.
“We condemn the deliberate misrepresentation of this video by certain media houses and individuals, spreading false information. AJKSA will take legal action against those responsible for uploading and sharing the video with malicious intent.”
We urge the public to be cautious of such misinformation and rely on authentic sources for news.

Police arrests gang of thieves in Ganderbal; Stolen property worth lakhs recovered

Ganderbal, June 16: Police in Ganderbal have arrested a gang of thieves involved in various theft cases and recovered stolen property worth lakhs from their possession.

On 18/04/2024, Police Station Lar received a written compliant from a person namely Farhad Yousuf son of Syed Yousuf resident of Yarmuqam, stating there in that some unknown persons entered his house during the intervening night of 17-18/04/2024 and stolen some Gold items & Cash.

Regarding the incident, a case vide FIR No.16/2024 under relevant sections of law was registered at PS Lar & a special team under the supervision DySP Hqrs Ganderbal was constituted to nab the culprits.

During the course of investigation and with the help of technical evidences, some prime suspects were summoned at PS Lar. During questioning, 02 suspects identified as Tariq Ahmad Rather son of Gh Mohd Rather resident of Khan Mohalla Pati Takanwari & Manzoor Ahmad Chopan son of Gh Mohd Chopan resident of Larson Ganderbal admitted their involvement in the commission of the crime.

During further investigation, the duo revealed that they along with their other associates, who had fled to Kargil, are also involved in 02 more theft cases viz, FIR Nos 13 & 17 of 2024 registered at PS Lar. Accordingly, a Police party was dispatched to Kargil and 03 more accused persons identified as Sheraz Ahmad Guroo @Sheru son of Mohd Shafi Guroo resident of Gaad Hanjimohalla Gund Roashan, Showket Ahmad Saad @Veeru son of Gul Saad resident of Narayan Bagh Shadipora & one juvenile (name withheld) were apprehended.

Stolen property worth lakhs including cash amount of ₹10,000/-, Gold Rings 07 Nos, Earrings Gold (Jumka) 04 Nos, Earings Gold (Baali) 08 Nos, Gold Broach 01 No., Ear Tops Gold 02 Nos, Earrings 02 Nos, were recovered from their possession.

Further investigation of the cases are in progress and more recoveries & arrests are expected.

3rd Inter-College Volleyball cum T.T culminates at GCoE Srinagar

SRINAGAR, JUNE 12: The 3rd Inter College Volleyball cum Table Tennis Tournament (Men/Women) 2024 organised by Department of Physical Education, Govt. College of Education (IASE), M.A. Road, Srinagar from 10th June, 2024, under the leadership and guidance of Principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Seema Naz culminated here today.

A total of 38 teams participated from 14 different Colleges of the Valley along with the constituent and affiliated colleges of the Cluster University Srinagar. In the volleyball tournament, 11 Men and 08 Women Teams participated whereas in Table Tennis (T.T) Tournament total 08 Men and 11 Women Teams showed their participation with great zeal and zest.

Dr. Nazir Ahmad Bhat (HOD Education) along with Dr. Mohammad Yasin Pir (Convenor Sports), Prof. Mansoor Ahmad Lone (Co-convener) Dr. Mohammad Ashraf Wagi (Staff Secretary), Dr. Irfat Ara, Prof Abdul Gani Kumar, Dr Bilal Ahmad Malla and Daljeet Kour inaugurated all the events of the tournament on 10-06-2024 (Monday).

In the brief Inaugural ceremony Dr. Nazir Ahmad Bhat (Dean Students Welfare) encouraged the participants and highlighted the importance of Games and Sports in the day today life.

In the Volleyball Category (Men), the final match was played between the AAAM Degree College Bemina and GDC, Alochi Bagh in which AAAM Degree College, Bemina defeated GDC, Alochi Bagh and bagged the volley trophy.

In the Volleyball Category (Women), the final match was played between Govt. Women’s College M.A.Road, Srinagar and S. P.College, Srinagar in which Govt. Womens’ College M. A. Road defeated S.P. College, Srinagar and bagged the volley trophy.

In the Table Tennis Category (Men), the final match was played between the S.P. College Srinagar and Gandhi College, Srinagar in which S.P. College Srinagar defeated Gandhi College, Srinagar and bagged the Table Tennis Trophy.

In the Table Tennis Category (Women), the final match was played between GCET, Safapora and Amar Singh College, Srinagar in which GCET, Safapora defeated Amar Singh College, Srinagar and bagged the trophy.

The brief valediction function was held today in the multipurpose hall of the college in which trophies and medals were distributed to the Winners and Runner Ups by Dr. Nazir Ahmad Bhat (Dean Students Welfare) and college sports committee.

The event was officiated by four officials deputed by District Youth Services & Sports Department (UT of J&K).

The 3 days event was smoothly conducted by the Department of Physical Education comprising Dr. Mohd Yasin Pir (Convener, Sports), Dr. Bilal Ahmad (PTI), Daljeet Kour (APTI) and Girdari Lal.
