Ganderbal, November 10: Police in Ganderbal have arrested 2 smugglers & seized illegally procured forest produce in the jurisdiction of PS Gund.
On a specific input, a Police party of PS Gund under the supervision of SDPO Kangan, intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK18C-6556 with two persons on board. They have been identified as Bashir Ahmad Raina son of Habibullah Rania resident of Ganivan Kangan, Fareed Ahmad Akhoon son of Ab Ahad Akhoon resident of Rayil Gagangir. During search, significant quantity of illegally procured forest produces popularly known as “Kuth” packed in 16 gunny bags have been seized. They have been arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 48/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at PS Gund and investigation has been initiated.

In the Men’s category S.P. College Srinagar lifted the Winner’s Trophy while as AAAM Degree College Bemina secured the Runner-Up Position. On the other hand in Women’s Category AAAM Degree College Bemina won the 2024 title of Inter College Table Tennis Tournament while as Govt. College of Engineering and Technology Safapora was declared as the Runners-Up.
An extraordinary felicitation ceremony was observed after the completion of the tournament in which Registrar Cluster University of Srinagar Prof. (Dr.) Syed Vilayat Hussain Razvi and the Nodal Principal Kashmir Division Colleges Prof. Dr. Seema Naz were the chief guests.
The winners and the Runners-Up were felicitated with the Trophies while all the participants shall be awarded with the certificates of participation. In his message, Registrar CUS highlighted the importance of sports in one’s life and the initiatives taken by the University for the accomplishment of students’ endeavors in games and sports.
He emphasized the significance of sports and physical activities in fostering holistic development among students. He applauded the efforts of the Sports Secretary of CUS and the role of Physical Director of the constituent/affiliated Colleges for organizing such events successfully and encouraged everyone to actively engage in sports for a balanced lifestyle.

Srinagar, Nov 8: A team from the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), led by Professor Pankaj Arora, Chairperson of NCTE, visited the Government College of Education, IASE M.A. Road Srinagar. The visit aimed to evaluate the quality of teacher education programs offered by the institution and introduction of ITEP in the Institution.
The delegation included Prof. Pankaj Arora, Chairperson, NCTE, Shri D.K. Chaturvedi, OSD, NCTE, Professor Zahoor Ahamd Geelani, Dean School of Education, Central University of Kashmir, Dr Firdaus Ahmad Sofal, Department of Education, Central University of Kashmir (CUK).
The team was warmly welcomed by the Principal of the College, Professor (Dr) Seema Naz, who expressed her gratitude for the visit and emphasized the importance of the NCTE’s support in uplifting the standards of teacher education in the region.
During their visit, the team interacted with the teaching faculty and students, focusing on the institution’s infrastructure, curriculum, teaching methodologies, and the challenges faced by the college in offering quality teacher education. The NCTE team also reviewed the college’s adherence to NCTE regulations and guidelines and explored avenues for strengthening of Teacher Education.

Srinagar, October 29: Today, at about 1300hrs, a reliable information was received at Police Station Kothibagh that a stabbing incident has happened at SP College ground and victim is taken to SMHS Hospital Srinagar.
Soon after receiving the information, a police party immediately rushed to SMHS Hospital Srinagar. The victim identified as Momin Ahmad Dar son of Riyaz Ahmad Dar resident of Anantnag A/P Basant Bagh Habba Kadal, has stated that he was stabbed by his Girlfriend’s Ex-boyfriend Arslan Aijaz son of Aijaz Ahmad Bhat resident of Barbarshah, who is a Swiggy Delivery Boy with motive being estranged love. He was stabbed on left Abdomen and head and is presently stable.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 62/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at PS Kothibagh and further investigation is taken up.
Investigating team has apprehended the accused Arslan and further investigation is under progress.
Baramulla, October 29: In a major operation against drug trafficking, Police in Baramulla seized 2.7Kgs of Heroin worth 20 crores and arrested three key figures of a heroin smuggling ring.
Acting on credible intelligence, a police team detained Nazim Din son of Alim Din Tass from Zamboor Pattan Uri during a surprise naka at NHW Khanpora on October 21, 2024. Upon search, officers found 519 grams of heroin concealed in a polythene bag under his armpit.
During initial questioning, Nazim disclosed his involvement in drug trafficking, allegedly under the influence of an unknown individual from Down Town Srinagar referred to as “Mir Sb.” According to his statement, he and his associate Waqar Ahmad Khawaja son of Abdul Rouf Khawaja from Tangdhar, Kupwara, had received a consignment of heroin on October 17, 2024 from a woman near Noora Hospital in Srinagar. The duo used a Maruti Ertiga vehicle bearing registration number JK09D-5822 owned by Waqar to transport the contraband from Srinagar to Handwara, distributing the drugs among local associates.
Following this lead, Police with the assistance of a magistrate, apprehended Waqar Ahmad near Handwara Bye-Pass crossing along with his vehicle and seized one more bag of heroin weighing 475 grams from the car’s boot. Further investigations led to the arrest of a third accomplice Manzoor Ahmad Bhat from Marathgam, Handwara on October 27, 2024. Upon his arrest, a search of his residence uncovered four additional packets of Heroin (1,701 grams) concealed in his wardrobe.
The seized vehicle used in transporting the drugs has been confiscated, and all suspects are currently under police remand. Investigation is going on to identify other members of the trafficking network including the Srinagar-based figure suspected of orchestrating local distribution.
Police is committed to a zero-tolerance approach to drug-related offenses and call on citizens to report any suspicious activities to help in building a drug-free society.
Ganderbal, October 29: Police in Ganderbal solved a theft case by arresting 6 accused persons involved in the commission of crime and recovered stolen property worth lacs from their possession.
On 18/08/2024, a written compliant was received by Police Station Kangan from one person namely Mohammad Younis Jungle son of Mohammad Mitha resident of Kalakoot Rajuri A/P Badipathri Behek Naranag regarding theft of his Livestock (Sheep/Goats) at Badipathri Behek Naranag. Upon the receipt of the compliant, a case vide FIR No. 68/2024 under relevant sections of law was registered at PS Kangan and further course of investigation was set into motion.
On receipt of this information, Police constituted a special team under the supervision of SDPO Kangan Shri Mohammad Ashraf-JKPS headed by SHO PS Kangan to investigate the matter. After strenuous efforts and with the help of technical inputs, the Police team recovered 30 stolen (Sheep/Goats) worth lacs from the upper reaches of Gutlibagh Forests. Meanwhile, one person was also apprehended in the instant case who disclosed his identity as Showkat Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Ahad resident of Wurpash Ganderbal.
Police solves theft case in Ganderbal, 6 accused arrested
During the investigation, the aforementioned person confessed that he had committed the crime along with 05 persons namely Shafeeq Ahmad Khan son of Mumtaz Ahmad resident of Wurpash Ganderbal, Tariq Ahmad Khan son of Farooq Ahmad resident of Wurpash Ganderbal, Irfan Ahmad Kataria son of Farooq Ahmad resident of Chatergull Bala Kangan, Mohammad Reyaz Baniya son of Beena Amin resident of Rajori A/P Chatergull Bala Kangan and Irshad Ahmad Raina son of Abdul Khaliq resident of Gund Ari Kangan. All the 06 accused persons have been arrested & and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Moreover, 02 vehicles bearing Regd. Nos JK05G-1602 and JK16C-1118 used in the commission of the crime were also seized. More recovery of stolen livestock is expected.
The locals have hailed and appreciated the efforts of J&K Police for swift action in solving the theft case. General Public is requested to co-operate with J&K Police & share inputs of burglars/thieves present in the society, so that they can be nabbed effectively in future also.
Srinagar, Oct 12: The ‘Ravan Dahan’ celebration is taking place at Srinagar’s SK Stadium as part of the Dussehra festivities. Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is a significant Hindu festival celebrating the victory of good over evil. One of the main attractions of this festival is the Ravan Dahan, where effigies of Ravan, his son Meghnath, and brother Kumbhkaran are set ablaze, symbolizing the triumph of Lord Rama over Ravan.
On the auspicious occasion of Dussehra, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) President Dr Farooq Abdullah and others participated in a vibrant celebration held at the SK Stadium Srinagar.

NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 27: Union Ministry of Tourism today announced Aru village, part of Pahalgam in Anantnag, as one of the winners of prestigious ‘Best Tourism Villages of India’ award.
The announcement was made on the occasion of World Tourism Day.
Introduced in 2023, the Best Tourism Villages Competition aims to identify and recognize villages that preserve and promote their cultural and natural heritage through community based values and sustainable practices.
In the second edition of the competition, a total of 991 applications were received from 30 States and Union Territories. After a rigorous evaluation process, 36 villages were selected as winners across eight categories.

Anantnag, September 13: Police in Anantnag have solved a theft case by arresting accused lady involved in the commission of crime and recovered stolen items from her possession.
Police in Anantnag acting swiftly on a complaint filed by Ms. Shahizda Akhter wife of late Ghulam Nabi Parray resident of Shipora Larkipora, regarding theft of golden ornaments.
A case vide FIR No. 181/2024 was registered and an investigation was promptly launched.
During the investigation, Rehana, wife of Majid Dar and resident of Minward, was brought in for questioning. During questioning, she admitted the commission of crime and on her revelation, the stolen items, including, 01 Gold Bangle, 04 Gold Rings, 01 Jhumka, 01 Chain with a Pendulum worth approximately ₹3 lakhs, were recovered from her residence.
Further investigation, led to the recovery of additional golden ornaments from the accused’s house, including 02 Gold Bangles, 01 Jhumka, 01 Gold Chain, 02 Pendulums, 01 Pair of Earrings, 01 Pair of Tops, 01 Gold Ring, valued approximately ₹4.5 lakhs, bringing the total recoveries to ₹7.5 lakhs.
The accused has been arrested and the investigation is going on.
