Police foils illegal trade of counterfeit Gold Biscuits in Kupwara; 3 arrested

Kupwara, September 12: In a major breakthrough, Police in Kupwara successfully busted an illegal trade of counterfeit gold biscuits and arrested three accused persons involved in the commission of crime.

Acting on a tip-off, Police Station Lalpora launched a swift operation. leading to the arrest of three individuals suspected of being involved in the illicit trade. The arrested individuals have been identified as Bashir Ahmad Khan son of Fazal Rehman Khan, Rayaz Ahmad War son of Mohd Taseen War and Noor Mohd Lohar son of Rehmatullah Lohar, all residents of Dever Lolab, Kupwara.

During questioning, the suspected individuals confessed their involvement in the counterfeit gold trade. The police successfully recovered 153 counterfeit gold biscuits from their possession. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 61/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Lalpora. Further arrests are expected as the investigation is in progresses.

Govt. College of Education, Srinagar celebrates National Sports Day

Srinagar, August 29: The Department of Physical Education, Govt. College of Education (GCoE), M.A. Road, Srinagar, celebrated National Sports Day today with great fervor and excitement, organizing a variety of activities under the enthusiastic leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Seema Naz, the esteemed Principal of the college.

The event was inaugurated by Dr. Irfat Ara, Dr. Mansoor Ahmad Lone, Prof. A.G. Kumar, Prof. Shawana Manzoor, Prof. Syed Altaf Ahmad, Arshad Sauleh, and Mrs. Daljeet Kour.

The programme was dedicated to the memory of Hockey Player Major Dhyan Chand, recognizing his remarkable contributions to bringing pride to the nation on the international stage.

The programme aimed to promote the spirit of sportsmanship and physical fitness among students witnessed huge of students who were encouraged to take part in extracurricular activities and hone their talents for participation at national and international levels.

On the occasion, the activities featured a range of sports and games aimed at encouraging student engagement, highlighting the value of sportsmanship and physical fitness, and promoting an active lifestyle. The events included volleyball (Men and Women), badminton (Men and Women), and five-a-side women’s hockey.

The IASE Blue team secured victory in the men’s volleyball event. In badminton, Rashid-Ul-Hassan and Sibat Andrabi of the IASE Green team won the men’s event, while Mohd Zubair and Shabir Ahmad of the IASE Blue team were the runners-up.

For the women’s badminton event, Syed Deemanah and Asma Nabi of the IASE Red team emerged as the winners, with Insha Iqbal and Muskan Bilal of the IASE Blue team finishing as runners-up. The IASE Red team triumphed in the women’s hockey event.

The culmination of the events featured an awards ceremony where Dr. Mohd Yasin Pir (Convenor of Sports), Fazl Illahi, Prof. Abdul Gani Kumar, Mrs. Daljit Kour, and Ghirdhari Lal distributed trophies to participants in recognition of their achievements.

Dr. Irfat Ara commended the Physical Education Department for their dedication in planning and executing the events and encouraged active involvement from both staff and students.

Police solves two burglary cases in Sopore, Stolen property worth Lacs recovered

Sopore, August 24: In a significant breakthrough, Police in Sopore have solved two burglary cases by arresting three accused persons involved in the commission of crime and recovered stolen property worth lacs from their possession.

On 27-07-2024, Police Station Sopore received a written complaint from one person namely Gulshana Begum wife of Aashiq Hussain resident of Kralteng Sopore stating therein that she went her son’s home residing nearby her house. After returning back to her house, she found that jewellery has been stolen from the house.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 176/2024 under section 331(3) and 305 of IPC Act was registered at Police Station Sopore and investigation was initiated.

On the directions of SP Sopore Smt. Divya D-IPS, an investigation team comprising of SHO Police Station Sopore & other officials of Police Station Sopore under the supervision of SDPO Sopore was constituted. During the course of investigation, investigating team with strenuous efforts apprehended one accused person identified as Saqib Lateef Sofi son of Abdul Lateef Sofi resident of Sempora Sopore. During questioning, the accused confessed his involvement in the crime.

Further investigation revealed the involvement of 02 more persons namely Aabid Ahmad Lone, son of Ghulam Mohiudin Lone, resident of Zaloora Sopore, and Shakoor Ahmad Zargar, son of Mohammad Shafi Zargar, resident of Nigeenbagh Sopore (owner of S S Jewelers in Iqbal Market, Sopore). All the accused persons have been arrested.

From their possession, stolen property including 01 Kitty set, 09 Golden Rings, 01 Jumka big, 01 Jumka small, 05 Golden Coins (Ponds) and 02 Ear Rings (total valued ₹6,10,000) were recovered.

Furthermore, cash amount of ₹1,30,000 was also recovered from the possession of accused Saqib Ahmad Sofi involved in case FIR No. 200/2024, in which burglary was taken place at Iqbal Nagar Sopore on 14 August 2024.

Kupwara, August 23: In a remarkable achievement, a police official Farhat Gulzar (Special Police Officer) posted in Kupwara has brought great honor to the Jammu and Kashmir Police by earning a silver medal in judo at All-India Police Games. The event, which was held in Guwahati and hosted by Assam Police, took place from June 24 to June 30, 2024.

Farhat Gulzar’s outstanding performance at the All-India Police Games is a testament to his dedication and hard work. As a result of his success at the national level, he has been selected to participate in the World Police and Fire Games, scheduled to be held in California, USA, in February 2025. In recognition of his outstanding achievement, Farhat Gulzar was felicitated by Shobhit Saksena-IPS, SSP Kupwara at a ceremony at District Police Office, Kupwara.

Moreover, SSP Pulwama Smt. P D Nitya-IPS congratulated and presented an appreciation certificate & cash rewarded an athlete Aamir Hamid Wani from Dadoora, Pulwama during a special ceremony. SSP Pulwama lauded Aamir’s perseverance and hard work, noting that his achievement serves as an inspiration to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.

Aamir Hamid Wani has made history by becoming the first player from Jammu and Kashmir to be selected for the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL). Aamir, who has been passionate about kabaddi since his childhood, secured a position in the league with a base price of Rs 9 lakh, marking a significant milestone in his sports career.

Raja Danish Amaan & Maajid Khan declared winners of RSGC FourBall Best Ball Golf Tournament

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 14: The Royal Spring Golf Course (RSGC) today declared the results for FourBall Best Ball Golf Tournament held at RSGC, here.
The tournament, played over five days on a knockout basis, featured 40 players and a total of 19 matches. The final took place on August 13, 2024.
Raja Danish Amaan and Maajid Khan were adjudged victorious of the RSGC Four Ball Best Ball Golf Tournament. Their determination and skill were outstanding.
The competition was tough, with many talented golfers participating. Raja Danish Amaan and Maajid Khan stood out with their excellent performance and strong focus, earning a well-deserved win. Danish Ayoub Khan and Shafat Sultan were declared runners-up, for their impressive performance.
Secretary of RSGC, Mufti M. Farid Ud congratulated Danish Amaan and Maajid Khan on their amazing win. He said their hard work, dedication and sportsmanship have been impressive.

Police cracks theft case in Pulwama, 3 accused persons arrested

Stolen property recovered

Pulwama, August 13: Police in Pulwama cracked a theft case by arresting three accused persons involved in the commission of crime and recovered stolen property from their possession.
Police Station Pulwama on 09/08/2024 received a complaint from one person namely Irshad Ahmad Dar son of Gh Mohammad Dar resident of Lajoora Pulwama regarding theft of a water pump from the under-construction building at Dangerpora Pulwama. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 163/2024 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Pulwama, and investigation was promptly initiated.
During the investigation, the team from Police Station Pulwama rounded up three suspects namely Sheraj Ahmad Bhat son of Gh Nabi Bhat resident of Keller, Mehrooz Mushtaq son of Mushtaq Ahmad Dar and Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir son of Mohd Qasim Mir, both residents of Dangerpora. After sustained questioning, the suspected persons confessed their involvement in the commission of crime. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
On their disclosure, the stolen water pump was also recovered. Further investigation into the case is ongoing.

Annual inter-college football tourney kicks off at KU

Srinagar, August 12 : The annual Inter-College Football Tournament kicked off at the University of Kashmir (KU), amid great enthusiasm and energy here Friday.

The much anticipated event brings together over 26 affiliated colleges under the university’s banner, offering students a platform to showcase their football talent and competitive spirit.

Organised by the Directorate of Physical Education & Sports (DPES), KU, the tournament is a cornerstone of the university’s vibrant sports calendar.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Director, DPES, Prof Tariq Ahmad Chishti, emphasised the vital role of sports in the holistic development of students.

“Participation in sports not only nurtures physical well-being but also instills discipline, teamwork and resilience in our students,” Prof Chisti said, adding that the varsity is committed to providing the best facilities and opportunities for youth to excel in sports and bring laurels to their institutions.

The inaugural match of the tournament saw an exciting contest between GDC Pampore and IITM Hyderpora, with GDC Pampore securing a decisive victory by 4 goals to 1. The match set the tone for what promises to be a thrilling series of games, as colleges compete for the championship title.

Prof Chishti further highlighted the significance of the tournament as a preparatory event for the upcoming All India and North Zone Inter-University Championships.

“The players who shine in these inter-college competitions will have the opportunity to represent the University of Kashmir on larger platforms. Our goal is to encourage a strong sports culture and prepare our teams for national-level competitions,” he maintained.

The tournament is also being held as part of the university’s celebrations leading up to the 78th Independence Day, adding a sense of national pride to the event.

“Sports events like this are not just about competition; they are about celebrating our unity, our spirit, and our shared commitment to excellence as a nation,” Prof Chishti said.

Assistant Director, Dr Surjit Bali; Assistant Director, Dr Basharat Ali; Football Coach, Tausif Bhat; PTI, Sajid Yousuf Dar; and In-charge Sports IITM Hyderpora, Sakeena Bashir were present at the inaugural ceremony.

According to the organisers, the tournament promises to be a showcase of emerging talent and sportsmanship, reflecting KU’s dedication to nurturing well-rounded individuals who excel both in academics and athletics.

Admin gears up for readying Assembly Complexes; accommodating its members

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 10: A meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary, Atal Dulloo was held to draw a plan for making Legislative Assembly complexes at both Srinagar and Jammu ready for holding its sessions after holding of elections here in the UT.

Those present includes Principal Secretary, Estates; Principal Secretary, Finance; Commissioner Secretary, IT; JK Resident Commissioner, Delhi; Secretary, R&B; Secretary, Transport; Secretary, Law; Secretary, Legislative Assembly; Director, Estates, Kashmir and other concerned officers.

During this meeting the Chief Secretary impressed upon the concerned to taking immediate steps for renovation/refurbishing of these Assembly complexes at both Srinagar and Jammu in a time-bound manner.

He reiterated that the facilities like functionality of Sound System, Internet Connectivity, fire Safety, functionality of lifts, giving facelift to the buildings and provisioning of allied amenities should also be taken in hand and completed at an earliest.

He asked for looking into the steps to renovate the Chambers of Speaker, Dy Speaker, Leader of Opposition as well besides making provisions for their official vehicles and residential accommodations.

Dulloo also called upon the concerned to carry out repairing works of the MLA Hostels in both the cities. He made out that all the amenities required should be installed within the available time window till culmination of assembly elections, as and when announced by the Election Commission of India.

He observed that pre-emptive steps should be initiated on part of administration to make preparations ahead of the elections so that there are no hindrances in smooth functioning of this pillar of democracy once it gets formed after conduct of elections here in J&K.

Police cracks blind murder case in Baramulla, 04 arrested

Baramulla, August 10: Police in Baramulla have solved a blind murder case by arresting 04 accused persons involved in the commission of crime.

On 02/08/2024, Police Post Palhallan recovered unknown dead body under the Khambiyar-Andergam Bridge. The body was later identified as Nasir Ahmad Ganaie, a resident of Pousnag Kreeri.

The Police team led by SDPO Pattan Shri DSP Shahjahan assisted by SHO Pattan and IC PP Palhallan, carried out a sustained interrogation, examination of evidences and analysis of technical data and succeeded in identifying 4 accused persons namely Gh Mohiuddin Ganie son of Late Gh Nabi, Fatima Begum wife of Gh Mohiuddin Ganie, Rubeena Bano daughter of Gh Mohiuddin Ganie, Aadil Ahmad Ganie son of Gh Mohiuddin, all residents of Gundbal Pattan, Baramulla.

The investigation revealed that the accused persons hatched a conspiracy to kill the victim on 01/08/2024 and accordingly, strangulated him to death using a Dupatta and later disposed off the body under the bridge.

All the accused persons have been arrested and are currently under police custody. Investigating officers have also recovered the weapon of offense (Dupatta) and other vital evidences.

Further investigation of the case is still going on.

Police arrests 4 gamblers in Baramulla; Stake money seized

Baramulla, August 09: Continuing its drive against social crimes, Police in Baramulla have arrested 4 gamblers and seized stake money and playing cards from their possession.

Acting on a reliable information regarding the gambling activities, a police party headed by SHO PS Pattan under the supervision of SDPO Pattan raided at Yamberzal Colony Pattan. During raid, 4 gamblers were arrested & stake money of ₹10,640/- & playing cards were recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Tariq Ahmad Malla son of Gh Hassan resident of Pattan, Bilal Ahmad Shah son of Ali Mohd resident of Kalsari, Firdous Ahmad Shah son of Hikmatullah resident of Pattan & Tanvir Ahmad Shah son of Mohammad Yousuf resident of Kalsari. They have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody.

Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Pattan and investigation has been initiated.

Persons found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per law. Community members are requested to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units.
