AC approves upgradation/revamping of Transport Nagar, Parimpora, Srinagar

SRINAGAR, MAY 22: The Administrative Council (AC) which met here today under Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha approved Upgradation/Revamping of Transport Nagar, Parimpora(Srinagar) at an estimated cost of Rs. 31.58 Crore.

Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor; Dr.Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary, J&K and Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor attended the meeting.

The project components include laying of road network, sewerage & drainage network, electric network to the tune of Rs. 30.00 Cr. It also includes development of Parks/Green Spaces & contingencies including consultancy to the tune of Rs. 1.58 Cr.

The project aims at decongestion of Srinagar city besides bringing all the transport agencies on one platform outside the city. It also envisages ensuring proper facilities both in terms of road network and other amenities at this vital business center. This project once completed will benefit nearly 76 transport agencies, besides, providing/improving the livelihood of people/traders dealing with various trades.

Police solves theft cases in Ganderbal, 3 accused arrested

Stolen property recovered

Ganderbal, May 19: Police in Ganderbal have solved theft cases by arresting 3 accused persons involved in the commission of crime and recovered stolen property from their possession.
In the jurisdiction of Police Post Shadipora, complaints from different areas were floating constantly regarding thefts of Angular Iron fitted in the fields, orchids of farmers for demarcation & fencing purposes etc. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law were registered at Police Station Ganderbal and investigation was initiated.
On receipt of this information, SSP Ganderbal Shri Nikhil Borkar-IPS constituted a special Police team led by incharge PP Shadipora under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Ganderbal Shri Gh Hassan-JKPS. In a quick & swift action, the Police team busted a gang of burglars involved in the commission of the crime & multiple theft cases were solved by recovering a huge quantity of stolen Angular Iron on the instance of arrested burglars. The arrested accused have been identified as Arif Ahmad Saaid S/O Gulzar Ahmad Saaid resident of Narayan Bagh, Tariq Ahmad Mir son of Gh Mohd Mir resident of Trigam & Mudasir Ahmad Guroo son of Mehraj Ahmad Guroo resident of Narayan Bagh. They have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
During the investigation, it came to fore that the stolen material was kept hidden by them under stagnant water near Chinar Bagh Narainbagh. Moreover, 01 Load Carrier bearing registration number JK01M-3868 used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Community members have lauded the efforts of police for cracking/solving the cases. Our consistent actions shall assure community members that Police have resolved to act tough against individuals involved in any kind of criminal activities.

National Technology Day: Lecture series kick-started from Sri Pratap College Srinagar

SRINAGAR, MAY 19: To commemorate the National Technology Day in the backdrop of G20 Summit, lecture series was Friday kick-started by Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Ashai, Director Colleges in the auditorium of Sri Pratap College Srinagar here.

The first in the series was a one-day special talk on the theme “The Culture of Science and Higher Education in Japan: Historical Perspective, Current Issues and Some Comparison to India” delivered by Prof. Yoshiro Azuma.

Prof. Yoshiro Azuma, an eminent scientist and visiting Professor at IIT Delhi in the field of Experimental Atomic and Molecular Spectroscopy gave an inspiring talk about his work experiences as a scientist in Japan and USA.

He emphasized on the importance of collaborative research work as a key to success in scientific endeavors. His talk inspired the students seeking research as career options in STEM. Director Prof. (Dr) Yasmeen Ashai urged the students to eagerly participate in such workshops and seminars to hone up their skills and gather scientific acumen.

Earlier, Principal Prof. (Dr.) Gh Jeelani Qurashi in his welcome address encouraged and motivated the student community to make use of such workshops to acquire knowledge about various opportunities they can take up at national and international level.

The College Newsletter “The Pratap Post” Volume-12 (I) was also released by the Director Colleges Prof. Yasmeen Ashai, in the presence of Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Gh Jeelani Qurashi; Prof. Yoshiro Azuma, Prof. Manzoor Ahamd Wani, Head Department of Botany; Prof. Sadiq Majid, Coordinator IQAC and Editor of college Newsletter Prof. Fahima Gul.

The proceedings were conducted by Dr. Shazia Mushtaq, Assistant Professor Botany while vote of thanks was proposed by coordinator IQAC Dr. Sadiq Majeed. The overall program was coordinated by Dr. Ghazala Anjum, Assistant Professor Physics. The report of the programme was compiled by Dr. Tabassum Ismail Convener Research Committee.

The lecture series is sponsored by J&K Science Technology and Innovation Council.

KU VC takes up CUET Exam Centre issue with UT administration

Srinagar, May 18: Vice-Chancellor University of Kashmir Prof Nilofer Khan on Thursday took up the matter related to setting up of examination centres in Kashmir for the candidates of Common University Entrance Test (UG-CUET) with senior authorities in the J&K UT administration.

The Vice-Chancellor spoke to Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department, J&K Government, Shri Alok Kumar, and urged him to further take up the matter with the National Testing Agency (NTA) so that examination centres for the CUET (UG) are set up in Kashmir and the aspirants do not have to travel outside the Valley to sit in the said examination.

The Vice-Chancellor said that setting up examination centres at convenient locations in the Valley will ease the candidates, especially those coming from far-off places and underprivileged sections of society, and save their travel time which they can appropriately use to focus on their studies.

The Principal Secretary assured that the matter has already been taken up with the NTA.

The VC hoped for an early resolution of the matter in the larger interest of the candidates who are presently preparing for the examination.

Director Planning, Higher Education Department visits Sri Pratap College

Takes stock of ongoing projects in campus

SRINAGAR, MAY 10: The Director Planning, Higher Education Department, Ashu Gupta today paid a visit to Sri Pratap College to take stock of the ongoing projects in the campus.

She along with Principal of the College, Prof (Dr) Ghulam Jeelani Qurashi took a tour of the college and keenly reviewed the progress with respect to all the projects.

She also stressed upon having a girls hostel in the college for which she proposed the college authorities to submit a DPR so that residential facility for girls is created at the earliest.

SP College launches signature campaign against drug trafficking & drug abuse

SRINAGAR, MAY 10: The NSS Units of Sri Pratap College today launched a signature campaign against drug trafficking and drug abuse as part of the institution’s constant efforts to create awareness regarding drug abuse.
The campaign was launched by the Director Colleges Higher Education Department, Prof (Dr) Yasmeen Ashai and the Principal of the College, Prof. (Dr) Gh Jeelani Qurashi.
Director Planning HED, Ashu Gupta, Principals of Degree Colleges, police personnel also marked their signature in support of the campaign.
Prof Yasmeen Ashai urged the students to take the campaign seriously so that the awareness regarding drug abuse reaches every section of the community.
Speaking on the occasion, the Principal of the College directed the NSS volunteers to take the campaign beyond the boundaries of the college and involve people from other institutions to strengthen the campaign.
NSS programme officers Dr. Nadia Shah and Dr. Syeed Rashid Maqsood coordinated the campaign and directed the NSS volunteers in groups to different sections of the society to reach the target of 1K signatures.

Sports has power to bind all: Secretary Sports Council

SRINAGAR, MAY 18: The sports fields in J&K remained abuzz with activities both organized by J&K Sports Council and local clubs with a greater number of players adding to the aggregate of participants.
The number of activities held under My Youth My Pride module at Polo Ground Srinagar, today. The activities included Pencak Silat, Judo, Taekwondo, Kabaddi, and Rugby. The Sports Officer of Kashmir, Nuzhat Farooq presided over the function as the chief guest.
The event kicked off with a nail-biting Kabaddi match between J&K Police and ACME Sports Academy which the former won by a score of 23:19. In the Handball match played between J&K Police and Al-Murad Baramulla, J&K Police triumphed with the scoreboard reading 31:25 in their favour. Khelo India Girls Team and got better of Hoopstar Club by a narrow margin of 15:13 points in the Basketball clash. In another encounter in the same discipline which went down to the wire, the Khelo India Center Boys emerged as the winner over their opponents MET Warriors by a score of 53-:8.
Even as My Youth My Pride activities continue to attract huge crowd, the players equally receive due praise and support for their respective performances. Pertinently this module of activities is organized to promote sports in J&K and encourage youth to take part in sports activities.
Meanwhile, District Anantnag Rugby Championship-2023 was held at Delhi Public School, Anantnag in which more than 200 participants of different age groups from different areas of district Anantnag participated.
Apart from the regular coaching and training classes, various sports activities are taking place under floodlights to further the scope of sports in J&K. The events held during the night especially see a huge participation from the athletes. The activities of Football, Handball, Basketball and Lawn Tennis are adding vibrancy to the ambience and making venues the happening places.
Speaking on the sidelines of the events, Secretary Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull said that sports is emerging as the prime choice for the recreation of youth. The visuals from district Shopian in South Kashmir the other day where participants swelled in large numbers in the district stadium under Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign makes one realize the power of sports which binds all, she added.
The Volleyball Association of J&K during a Volleyball event in M.A Stadium Jammu today organized volleyball-exhibition matches for boys and girls. During the concluding ceremony Sports officer Jammu, Ashok Singh presided over the function and distributed prizes among the participating clubs. While speaking on the occasion he stressed upon the need to get involved in the sports activities for fitness and wellbeing.
Meanwhile, early in the morning a meeting convened by Ashok Singh Sports Officer pertaining to smooth functioning of Khelo India State Centre of Excellence in Fencing was held in the meeting hall of MA Stadium Jammu. The selected athletes along with their parents, and KISCE staff was part of the meeting during which performance of each player was analyzed besides providing a weekly training schedule and stressing upon the punctuality for higher performance.
The participants were apprised about the guidelines of the programme besides discussion on hostel facilities and school admissions.
Pertinently the KISCE is an inhouse training facility where all the expenses of boarding and lodging of selected candidates including education is borne by the government.

Police solves burglary case in Shopian, 05 arrested; Stolen property worth lacs recovered

Shopian, May 18: Police in Shopian have solved a burglary case by arresting 05 person involved in the commission of crime. Stolen property worth lacs have also been recovered from their possession.
On 03/05/2023, Police Station Shopian received a written compliant to the effect that during the intervening night of 15-16/04/2023, some unknown burglars have stolen 11 sheep (hybrid type).
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No.68/2023 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Shopian and investigation was initiated.
During the course of investigation, investigating team developed human/technical inputs and accordingly several suspects were detained for questioning. During questioning, officers learnt the involvement of five suspects in the commission of crime. They have been identified as Nisar Ahmad Malla son of Ghulam Rasool Malla, Gulzar Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Qadoos Mir, both residents of Check Sangdan Imamsahib Shopian, Sheeraz Ahmad Hajam son of Mohammad Abdullah Hajam resident of Watoo Kulgam, Sajid Gulzar Ganie son of Gulzar Ahmad Ganie resident of Akalmir Khanyar Srinagar and Irshad Ahmad Ganie son of Mohammad Shafi Ganie resident of Rozbal Khanyar Srinagar.
During further questioning, officers also learnt of their involvement in several other burglary incidents at different locations of Anantnag, Awantipora, Kulgam and Pulwama areas.
On their disclosure, stolen property worth lacs including vehicle Tata Mobile bearing registration number JK18-0124, vehicle Taveera bearing registration number JK03C-1249 and 03 sheep were recovered.
Further investigation of the case is going on.

Professor (Dr) Syed Wilayat Rizvi assumes charge as Registrar Cluster University Srinagar

Srinagar, May 18: Professor (Dr) Syed Wilayat Rizvi assumes charge as Registrar Cluster University Srinagar today on 18th of May 2023. Born and brought up in Zadibal area of Shaher-e-Khaas Srinagar, Prof. Rizvi received his early education from Government Boys High School Zadibal (from 1974 to 1984) and S.P. Higher Secondary School (1985 & 86). He completed graduation as a medical student from S.P. College (1987) and Islamia College Srinagar (1988-1990) and then joined Department of Botany University of Kashmir in 1991. After completing M.Sc. Botany in 1994, he joined CORD (Centre of Research for Development) University of Kashmir for MPhil and PhD in Plant Tissue Culture. Prof. Rizvi has published 8 books and many research papers. He is the recipient of Innovative Science Teacher Award, Best Teacher Award and Best Oral Presentation Award.

Prof. Wilayat Rizvi started his service in Higher Education Department J&K Government on 12.10.1994 and has served as Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and as Principal for about 28 years. He has served in Government Women’s college M.A. Road Srinagar (from October 1994-June 1997), GDC Boys Anantnag (from September 2000 to June 2003), Amar Singh College Srinagar (June 2003-July 2017), SP College Srinagar (from July 2017 to August 2022) and HKM GDC Bandipora (from 27th August 2022 to 17th April 2023).

During his service in different colleges, Prof. Rizvi has taught to UG and PG students and shouldered many administrative responsibilities like Coordinator, IQAC, UGC affairs, Website Monitoring Committee, Discipline Committee, College Development Committee, Advisory Committee, Career Counselling and Placement Cell. He has also remained Dean Academic Affairs, and Coordinator Edu-Sat and E-content management. He has coordinated e-content generation and has delivered more than 150 lectures as a resource person in different National and International seminars and contributed in NAAC accreditation. Before assuming charge as Registrar Cluster University Srinagar, he was posted as Principal, Degree College Bandipora.
