Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2023 conducted smoothly in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, MAY 28: The Union Public Services Commission today conducted Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2023 throughout 78 cities across India. For Kashmir based aspirants examination was successfully held at twelve centres in Srinagar.

Government of J&K had Nominated Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri as State Level Observer for Srinagar Centers , while the Assistant Commissioner, Central with Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Aadil Fareed was appointed as Coordinating Supervisor for the conduction of Examination.

Besides, the Office of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir had appointed 12 inspecting officers for the said venues in compliance to the measures undertaken to strengthen the process of conducting the Commission’s Examination.

Further, the office of Addl. Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar had nominated Mobile Magistrates for each venue.

Pertinently, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir yesterday had held a meeting in connection with ensuring necessary arrangements for smooth conduction of exam which was attended by all Principals, Venue Coordinators, Inspecting Officers and representatives of Police, Security & Traffic respectively.

Following the directions of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, the Assistant Commissioner Central, Kashmir visited all the 12 centers on Saturday and took the stock of all the arrangements.

The Total Number of candidates which were supposed to attend the examination was 4211, however the examination was only attended by 2430 candidates in 1st session & 2408 no. of candidates in 2nd session respectively, making the present percentage 57.7 %.

Mela Kheer Bhawani Celebrated with Religious Fervor, Gaiety at Tullamulla

GANDERBAL, MAY 28: Thousands of Kashmiri Pandits and devotees today visited the Mata Kheer Bhawani Temple on the auspicious occasion of Jyeshtha Ashtami here at Tullamulla Ganderbal.

Every year, on this auspicious day, Kheer Bhavani Mela is organized at Mata Kheer Bhawani Temple in Tulmulla, Ganderbal and devotees from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir visit the holy shrine here.

Kheer Bhawani is considered to be the deity of Kashmiri Pandits, who have a lot of recognition there. Over the years, the Kheer Bhawani Mela has become a symbol of communal harmony and brotherhood in Kashmir.

The religious sanctity of Mata Kheer Bhawani Temple, built atop a holy spring, has a special spiritual significance among Kashmiri Pandit devotees across the world.

The Tulmulla area of district Ganderbal witnessed enthusiastic scenes as a large number of devotees arrived here who paid obeisance and prayed for the entire humanity.

Earlier of the day, the Deputy Commissioner inspected the arrangements and enquired about the facilities being provided to the devotees. Full attention was given to ensure that devotees do not face any issue.

Mostly Kashmiri Pandits were seen performing the rituals of the festival at the temple besides that Muslims were seen greeting pandits and making arrangements.

Pertinently, the District Administration had made necessary arrangements for uninterrupted power and drinking water supplies, transport, security, fire tenders, ration, bedding, medical camps, and medical facilities at the temple besides free transport facility was also made for the devotees on various routes.

Several NGOs and civil society had also made arrangements to provide wheelchairs and other aids for the convenience of the devotees during the mela.

Police solves burglary case in Baramulla, 3 accused arrested

Stolen property recovered

Baramulla , May 28: Police in Baramulla have solved a burglary case by arresting 03 accused persons involved in the commission of crime and recovered stolen property from their possession.
On 27/05/2023, Police Station Boniyar received a complaint from one person Mushtaq Ahmad Ahanger (Accounts officer of Small Hydro Electric Project Boniyar) stating therein that some unknown burglars have stolen steel shuttering plates from construction site at Maidanan Boniyar. Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Boniyar and investigation was initiated.
During the course of investigation, officers with the help of technical and human resources zeroed in on some suspects for questioning. Among them, 03 suspects identified as Aqib Ahmad Shah son of Mohammad Hafeez Shah resident of Nangli Pora Sopore, Bashir Ahmad Jainder son of Sayia Jinder resident of Madian Boniyar & Sajad Ahmad Thakar son of Gulam Qadir Thakar resident of Uranbowa confessed their involvement in the commission of crime after thorough interrogation.
On their disclosure, officers have also recovered stolen property from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Community members have lauded the efforts of police for cracking/solving the case. Our consistent actions shall assure community members that Police have resolved to act tough against individuals involved in any kind of criminal activities.

S.P College, Wildlife department jointly pledge for Wildlife conservation & protection of the environment

SRINAGAR, MAY 27: Sri Pratap College and Department of Wildlife today jointly took a pledge for wildlife conservation and protection of the environment in a programme organized under the banner of India’s Presidency of G20.

The pledge was taken by the students of the college and the representative officials of the Department of Wildlife in recognition of the importance of preserving wildlife and their habitats to reflect the commitment of both organizations towards a sustainable future for our planet’s precious wildlife and ecosystems.

The pledge incorporated commitments to educate students, staff, and the general public about wildlife conservation, prevention of wildlife crime, conduct research and monitoring, and collaborate with other organizations and stakeholders to develop and implement effective conservation strategies based on scientific evidence.

The principal of the College Prof. (Dr) Gh Jeelani Qurashi presided over the event and assured the student gathering of taking such initiatives on priority in the future as well.

“We are proud to take this pledge for wildlife conservation and protection of the environment,” said the representative of the college. “We recognize the importance of preserving our wildlife and their habitats for the health and well-being of our planet and future generations. We are committed to working with the Department of Wildlife and other stakeholders to achieve this common goal”, he added.

The officials from the Department of Wildlife also expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration and the commitment to conservation, adding, “We are excited to work with S P College Srinagar and other stakeholders towards wildlife conservation and protection of the environment. This is an important step towards ensuring a sustainable future for our planet’s biodiversity”.

The pledge is expected to have far-reaching results for greater awareness and action toward wildlife conservation and environmental protection among students and the general public.

DC Srinagar holds meeting with Traders/Transporter Unions of Batamaloo

Constitutes ADC headed Task Force to formulate the Action Plan

SRINAGAR MAY 25: In order to ensure smooth plying of traffic in Batamaloo area and facilitate the passengers, a meeting was held today under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad here at Conference Hall of the DC Office Complex.

Vice Chairman, Srinagar Development Authority, Haris Ahmad Handoo, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Shabir Ahmad, Regional Transport Officer, Kashmir, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari, SP Traffic Tariq Ahmad, Chief Planning officer, Mohammad YAseen Lone, Superintending Engineer R&B, Sajad Naqeeb, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Raies Ahmad Bhat, SDM, West, Primroze Bashir, Tehsildar Headquarter, and other officers.

The meeting was held in light of the High Court directions regarding the representations of the various Unions of the Batamaloo Bus Stand.

At the outset, a detailed discussion was held related to the concerns raised by the Traders Association Batamaloo including problems being faced by wholesalers/distributors in supplying goods to dealers and intervention required for smooth movement of vehicles for supply of essential goods in the local markets, besides decongest the area and ensure smooth flow of traffic movement of pedestrians.

The Traders also demanded for designating a particular area for parking/stand of commercial vehicles in the area to facilitate the local wholesale traders and commuters visiting the market/Bus Stand which has been shifted to Parimpora few years back.

The Deputy Commissioner gave a patient hearing to the members of the trade delegation and assured them that they will look into the matter based on the directions of the High Court and will come out with a solution in order to improve the transportation facility in Batamaloo area so that local traders, commuters and public in general don’t face any difficulties.

On the occasion, the DC asked the Team headed by ADC to explore possibilities for addressing the issues of the Traders. He asked the officers to conduct field visits to the area and draft some pragmatic plan at the earliest.

Lt Governor pays obeisance at Mata Kheer Bhawani

GANDERBAL, MAY 25: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha paid obeisance at Mata Kheer Bhawani at Ganderbal. He was accompanied by Ms Nuzhat Ishfaq, DDC Chairperson Ganderbal; Dr Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary and other senior officials of the UT government.

The Lt Government was welcomed by members of Kashmiri Pandit community and was presented with traditional Pheran by them. The Lt Governor offered his prayers. Thereafter, he reviewed the arrangements being made for the auspicious occasion of Jyeshtha Ashtami.

During his visit to the holy shrine at Tulmulla, Ganderbal, the Lt Governor announced construction of Yatri Bhawan at Mata Kheer Bhawani Temple to facilitate the visiting devotees.

He directed the District Administration and all government departments to work out detailed project report for construction of the Bhawan.

The Lt Governor appraised the preparations for the upcoming Mata Kheer Bhawani Mela and directed the officials and stakeholders to make all the necessary arrangements for the convenience of the visiting devotees.

He directed the officials to ensure logistical arrangements, power, water supply, essential commodities, medical services & other necessary requirements for Kheer Bhawani Mela.

The Lt Governor also interacted with the members of Kashmiri Pandit community and discussed their issues and concerns.

He instructed the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir to designate a Nodal Officer to receive and resolve concerns of members of Kashmiri Pandit community.

Every year, on the auspicious occasion of Jyeshtha Ashtami, Kheer Bhawani Mela is organized at Mata Kheer Bhawani Temple at Tulmulla, Ganderbal.

Div Com Kashmir reviews arrangements for departure of Hajj Pilgrims

Directs for ensuring flawless & hassle-free arrangements

SRINAGAR, MAY 25: The Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri today convened a meeting of officers to review the arrangements for the departure of Hajj Pilgrims on the Holy Journey.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioners and SSPs of J&K besides officers of District Administration Leh & Kargil, Chairman J&K Haj Committee, HoDs of various departments including PHE, KPDCL, Health, Sanitation, SRTC, RTO and Hospitality & Protocol.

Addressing the meeting, Div Com stated that after the success of G20 Summit, smooth and flawless arrangements shall also be made for the departure of Hajj Pilgrims.

He issued a slew of directions to concerned officers for ensuring all the required arrangements to facilitate pilgrims.

He directed for making adequate facilities of drinking water, uninterrupted power supply at Haj House Bemina besides conducting regular sanitation and cleanliness drive there.

Div Com directed SRTC to provide buses for transportation of pilgrims from Haj House to Airport.

The meeting was informed that the departure schedule of flights will be published within two days. However, all pilgrims were asked to report to Haj House four hours earlier before departure time.

Besides, the meeting was informed that an adequate quantity of foreign exchange has been ensured in all districts besides more counters will be set up at Haj House.

Div Com also gave directions for hassle-free and smooth clearance of pilgrims at immigration service counter at Airport besides distribution of boarding passes at the earliest.

The traffic police was asked to identify parking space for vehicles of relatives accompanying pilgrims near Hajj House.

Pilgrims of Jammu Division, U.T of Ladakh and far off areas of Kashmir Valley who happen to stay at Haj House shall be provided boarding/lodging facility at Hajj House, Bemina.

SP College organises one-day Seminar on ‘Green Chemistry for SDGs’

SRINAGAR, MAY 25: Department of Chemistry, Sri Pratap college, today organized a One Day Seminar on the theme ‘Green Chemistry for Sustainable Development Goals’, here.

The seminar was the third in the series of lectures to commemorate National Technology Day under India’s G20 presidency.

The invited speaker, Dr. Imtiyaz Ahmad Wani, deliberated in detail about the importance of Green Chemistry in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with relevant examples. The talk was participatory in nature with frequent queries and explanations addressed aptly by the speaker.

The speaker also suggested methods to incorporate Green Chemistry at UG and PG levels.

Earlier, the head of the department, Prof. Saadat Hassan Kar in his introductory speech emphasized the importance of sustainable developmental goals vis-a-vis green chemistry.

This was followed by special remarks by the Principal Prof. (Dr) Gh Jeelani Qurashi wherein he laid stress on the use of green chemistry as a means of achieving sustainable development goals and highlighted the role of students as agents of change.

The programme included student participation sessions as well. Hamid Javed of IG 10th semester discussed the successful green synthesis methods used by him in his project versus the conventional methods.

This was followed by two practical demonstrations highlighting the benefits of green methods over conventional methods by Azra Manzoor of IG 6th semester and Syed Muneesa of IG 9th semester.

The proceedings of the event were conducted by Prof. Ruheena Tabasum and the event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Asif Iqbal Bhat.

Alok Kumar, IRS, Principal Secretary Higher Education Department, J&K visits IUST. Says Skills open doors to opportunities

Awantipora, May 25: IUST rolls out implementation of PMKVY 4.0 and inaugurated Kalam Academy of Skill Development and Training. On this occasion, Shri Alok Kumar IRS who was the chief guest congratulated the IUST for its efforts towards the implementation of the Skilling mission through Govt’s flagship programme. He said that the programme aims to bridge the skill gaps and guarantee the employability of the youth and contribute in the Country’s march towards progress and prosperity. He further said that nothing is more empowering than acquiring skills which opens up opportunities.

In his address, Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo expressed thanks to the government in lending support to IUST, in its initiatives. He said that in this age of innovation and entrepreneurship, where rapid technological advances create skill gaps, initiatives like PMKVY are significant. He outlined different measures being taken in the IUST at its Centre of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development, Design and Innovation Centre and cited the accomplishments made towards supporting the Start-Up ecosystem and inculcating Innovative spirit among the youth. He also talked about NEP 2020 implementation and said that at IUST emphasis is being laid on multidisciplinary leaning, inculcation of innovative spirit, introduction of vocational courses in different areas of contemporary relevance etc.

The Chief guest later took a tour of different facilities of the campus and appreciated the growth of the university. He visited CIED, departments of Food Sciences and Technology and Computer Science and engineering and inaugurated the Skill development programmes. He appreciated IUST on its achievements and congratulated the Vice chancellor and Director CIED for 3.5 Star ranking awarded by the Institution Innovation Council of Ministry of Educating, GoI, in recognition of the efforts towards promotion of Entrepreneurship, Innovation and start up culture. The Programme was coordinated by Dean Research Prof Ayaz Hassan Moon and attended by Dean Academic Affairs, Registrar, Finance Officer, Deans of Schools, and others.

Police solves burglary case in Baramulla; 1 arrested

Baramulla, May 24: Police in Baramulla have solved a burglary case by arresting an accused person involved in the commission of crime.
On 23/05/2023, Police Post Wagoora received a complaint from Ghulam Nabi Mir son of Ghulam Mohd Mir resident of Kachwa Muqam Kreeri stating therein that during intervening night of 22-23/05/2023, some unknown burglar(s) barged into his shop located at Kalantra Payeen and had stolen vehicle spare parts.
Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law have been registered at Police Station Kreeri and investigation was initiated.
During the course of investigation, officers with the help of technical and human resources zeroed in on one suspect identified as Umar Rehman Mochi son of Abdul Rehman Mochi resident of Kalantra Payeen.
During questioning, officers learnt his involvement in the commission of crime. On his disclosure, stolen property was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
